Subj: Lost 92lbs
Date: 7/30/2010
Adipex has pretty much been a miracle for me! lol. It kind of bothers me when people say that if you quit takin it you put back on twice the weoght or more, that is only if you are a lazy type that has depended fully on the adipex to do ALL THE work. I however took adipex and lost 92lbs in a year and have not takin it in a year and have not put on a single pound until I got pregnant which has nothing to do with the Adipex! If u set yourself a workout plan and learn to eat healthily you should have no problems.

Subj: Long-term use of Adipex
Date: 8/1/2010
I’ve bin takeing adipex for about 2 years off & on. More on since the past 5 months I lost 50 pounds from 200 to 150 the obvious side affects are dry mouth, mood swings & if your a man you won’t get it up that’s why my husband don’t take it… My major concern is that I found my self unable to function without adipex … Its so hard for me to do anything without them. I can’t make normal disitions without it. Or I feel like I can’t make good disitions. What should I be concerned about long term use of this drug?

AskDocWeb: Those who use Adipex long term have the potential for developing psychological dependency but it sounds like you already found that out. Most diet drugs are not a long-term solution because they lose their effectiveness after a few months and the patient may be left with just the dependency.

Subj: I feel wonderful
Date: 8/4/2010
I have been on Adipex for 3 days now!! I feel wonderful, it makes me feel human again, for the last few years I have been extremely tired and don’t feel like doing anything, but the last 3 days make me feel like I am 21 again! I have had the dry mouth and last night I only slept 2 hours but felt great all day. I have not weighed myself yet, I am trying to wait a week! I am very excited and I hope this works for me. This medication has also helped with my appetite I use to eat everything on my plate and now I am only eating about half, and feel full. I also started exercising the last 3 days and when I am done I want to go and do it again, and trust me I hate to exercise!!! I will keep everyone posted!!

Subj: Headaches and sleeplessness
Date: 8/10/2010
I am on my third month of taking Adipex. In the first few days of taking this medication I had some headaches and sleeplessness but other than that, not too many side effects. As for my weight loss, I have lost a total of 10 pounds and that all seemed to be within the first month. Is this normal? I exercise 3 times per week and have definitely noticed a difference in my appetite but I guess I expected to continuously loose weight. Maybe it is normal for your body to plateau? I plan on waiting a few months but if I do decide to go back on a diet pill, what would you suggest?

AskDocWeb: When it comes to weight loss, it seems like everyone reaches a plateau at some point. When that happens it is helpful to take another look at what you are eating, how much you are eating, and the amount of physical activity you engage in on a regular basis. In order to break through a plateau you may need to make additional lifestyle changes.

Subj: Adipex works
Date: 8/11/2010
I have just finished my last month of Adipex. I weighed in at 178 lbs and currently 146. I believe this pill works with diet and exercise.

Subj: Adipex and recovery from surgery
Date: 8/11/2010
I’m taking adipex for a different sort of reason. I only need to lose about 15 pounds but I’m in the middle of a series of surgeries on my feet. I’m having trouble recovering because I gained weight after the first surgery… I was off my feet except for wheelchair or crutches for 3 months. Now I’m having trouble walking again. I have to wait a few more months to have an ankle replacement surgery so this was the best option… but I’m wondering if it could be harmful if you only need to lose 15 pounds. I weigh 134 he said it might be helpful to get down to 115. Just by what I’ve read it looks like you lose weight fast. Thank you for any advice you may have!

AskDocWeb: Obviously the less you weigh the less stress you put on your feet when walking. There is a lot to consider when weighing the known benefits of a drug with the possible negative side effects. If your doctor thinks that Adipex is the best option for your situation then you are probably okay working with that.

Subj: Fatigue, mood swings, and self-discipline
Date: 8/17/2010
I’m 21 and 9 months ago I weighed 215 lbs. Thanks to Adipex I’m 42 lbs lighter now and certainly happier with my figure/eating habits. It helped me really realize how much I was eating and how much of my eating was based on emotion or boredom. I did not exercise. I do a decent amount of walking, but that’s about it. I took the majority of the weight off quickly (within the first 3 months) and have lost a few lbs each month until the past 2-3 months. I feel like I’m just maintaining now.

As far as side effects, I noticed from the first couple of months that my memory was greatly effected. I have to write things down now in order to retain them. I become fatigued VERY easily and now that I’m lighter and have this increased metabolism, if I don’t eat small meals every few hours I WILL pass out (was never an issue before this medication). I become lightheaded very easily. I experience mood swings. They were much more intense when I first started taking this medication but they are still very intense and I experience deep sadness, often without cause, and extreme rage to the point where I feel like I need to throw something or act out to get the emotion out (I was always VERY passive and non-confrontational before I began taking this). My loved ones have just learned to deal with me because they see how my general health has significantly improved as a result of all the weight loss. I had a hard time sticking with a regular sleep schedule when I first started taking it, and that majorly contributed to the mood swings, but I feel less effected now.

If you have difficulty with self-discipline in sticking to a diet/exercise regimen and a lot of patience to allow your body the adjustment time, it’s worth it. I’m about to stop taking it in a few more months and I’m optimistic about staying at this weight. I’m going to start working out. I’m going to keep seeing food as fuel and not as an activity, and I think that will make the biggest difference.

No Longer Scared of Swimsuits

Subj: Hemorrhoids
Date: 8/19/2010
I have used phentermine for 1 month and lost about 10 lbs. I recently stopped taking due to severe Thrombosed hemorrhoids. I have not been noticeably constipated. They seem like they came out of the blue. Could the phentermine be causing this?

AskDocWeb: Phentermine is not known to cause hemorrhoids however, when stools become hardened they may cause small tears in the wall of the rectum. You said you haven’t been noticeably constipated but that is one of the possible side effects of Phentermine, which could aggravate existing hemorrhoids.

Subj: Extremely hungry
Date: 8/22/2010
I started adipex on Aug 10, I lost two pounds. it’s a week and a half, and my cravings only are curved for the first few hours after I take the pill, and then I become extremely hungry where I can pass out for not eating? is this normal? should I continue to take the pills and hopefully my cravings for food will become more decreased?

AskDocWeb: That is not normal and certainly not typical. If Adipex is not working as well as you think it should, talk to your doctor.

Subj: Follow the directions
Date: 8/23/2010
I have taken Adipex for the last 2 1/2 years. I recently stopped in February of 2010 because I found out that I was pregnant. You can bet that I will go back on this medication when I deliver my baby. Not only did it help me with my self confidence I also did not find myself sitting in front of the TV with ice cream in my hand.

When I first started it, I did have the fast and tingling feeling but that went away and it regulated my eating. My full time job is a secretary so during the day was the hardest because you always are looking for something to snack on. So I made a rule once I started I said I would only take the medicine while I was at work. I would always eat three meals a day. When the weekend came I would not take any because that is the time to rest and relax. You have to give your body a break.

At first I did not follow the directions. I thought I could eat whatever I want, take the pill and it would do everything for me. Well that did not work. So I followed exactly what they said. 1/2 before you eat. I got to the point to where I was taking 1/2 a pill in the morning and 1/2 a pill at lunch and by the time I got home I was just fine. It is a great medicine but you have to use it the way they say to use it.

Subj: Lost 17 then gained 7 back
Date: 8/26/2010
I’m really not sure what to think about adipex the first week I felt horrible, headaches, mood swings, and I couldn’t sleep. It did boost my energy and curve my appitite, I’m almost forcing myself to eat and I’m drinking alot of water. I’m excersizing every other day I’m doing 30 minutes of arobics and cardio and sweating alot!! And when I’m not doing that I’m chasing a toddler around! I have been taking it for 2 weeks now and I lost 17 lb’s than I gained 7 back so now I’ve lost only 10… I don’t know the reason for gaining I’m thinking maybe it stop working?? Has this happened to anyone else?

AskDocWeb: It is possible for Adipex to stop working because typically the body builds up a tolerance for the drug over time and it loses effectiveness. However, that usually takes two or three months so check with your doctor.

Subj: Severe withdrawals
Date: 8/27/2010
I took Adipex for 8 months straight with no breaks. I lost over 60 pounds which was wonderful and I felt great!! Until after I weaned off of them. It sent me to the emergency room. I was extremely fatigued, extremely dehydrated. Developed kidney stones. My blood lab work was horrible!! I suffered severe withdrawals. My symptoms were extreme depression, restlessness and irritability. Even since being off the medication for 4 months, I am still suffering major problems ranging from endocrine problems to major migraines and still fatigued.

I would NOT recommend this drug at all at any cost. I am a person that does not like to take medications. I started off taking Adipex (the only medication I was on). Now since stopping the med, I am on 5 different meds!! NOT A GOOD TRADE!!! I would be more than happy to talk to anyone about this if needed.
