Subj: Adipex and Keflex?
Date: 1/15/2011
I have been taking Adipex for 2 weeks now, and have noticed an increase in energy and loss of appetite. Can I take the antibiotic Keflex while on Adipex?

Lisi

AskDocWeb: At the time of checking there were no drug interactions listed between Adipex and Keflex – however, this does not necessarily mean that no interactions exist. Always check with your doctor or pharmacist. The most common drugs that interact with Adipex are:

  • Antidepressants such as citalopram (Celexa), Sarafem, Symbyax), paroxetine (Paxil), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft)
  • Blood pressure medications
  • Guanethidine (Ismelin)
  • Insulin or oral diabetes medication

Other drugs may also interact with Adipex-P so be sure to tell your doctor about all medications you use, which includes prescription, over-the-counter, vitamin, and herbal products. Do not start a new medication without telling your doctor that you use Adipex.

Subj: Some side effect at first but now?
Date: 1/17/2011
I’ve been taking adipex for 5 days now the first day i felt a surge of energy and kinda jitter and dry mouth now for the last 4 days ive felt no increase in energy just dry mouth i think i see some change but i havent weighted myself yet i feel smaller the only affect that i do feel is dry mouth no increased energy no fast heart beat or anything else does this mean that adipex 37.5 is not working for me i take one pill a day 30 minutes after i eat

Evelina

AskDocWeb: Those are just some of the possible side effects that may go away as your body becomes accustomed to the drug. If it is reducing your appetite then it is still working.

Subj: Adipex and dental work
Date: 1/24/2011
I started taking Adipex….Dec 2010 and I have lost 25 lbs…I have constipation still and the feeling that I am high in a fog/daze…I also get weekly B-12 shots, and another once monthly shot that has many more vitamins for energy. I am in need of having a tooth cut out, and I need to be put to sleep for the procedure… I wonder do I need to tell my dentist the medication I am on (Adipex) or can I get put under safely and not have the entire dental staff aware of my weight loss medication use?

Tiffany

AskDocWeb: Remember that Adipex is a stimulant and any stimulant may reduce the effectiveness of an anesthetic. Even the local anesthetic used to numb the gums may not be as effective if you are using Adipex or another stimulant. The purpose of telling your healthcare provider about all the prescription drugs you are taking prior to a medical procedure is to make that medical procedure as safe as possible. You will find that with many medical procedures it is often necessary to set your dignity aside. And by the way, the people in that office know that if they started making any kind of “fun” of patients, they would soon lose their job. That seriously inhibits any kind of inappropriate behavior.

Subj: Relpax for Migraines
Date: 1/25/2011
can you take relpax for Migrains while you are taking Adipex???

Michele

AskDocWeb: Although there are no drug interactions listed between Relpax and Adipex, both of these drugs increase blood pressure so check with your doctor first.

Subj: Adipex with prozac and xanax?
Date: 1/25/2011
I would like to know if I can take addipex while taking prozac and I take a xanax for sleep. I have Insomnia after having a hysterectomy, and I have gained weight I want to lose 35 lbs. but I also have a peptic ulcer too. I would like some addvise on taking addipex with these other meds. thank you

Kellie

AskDocWeb: Adipex is not usually prescribed to those using Prozac due to the possibility of adverse events from drug interactions. Although the exact mechanism of interaction is unclear, there are reports of patients experiencing jitteriness, racing thoughts, stomach cramps, dry eyes, heart palpitations, tremors, and restlessness when Adipex was used by a patient taking Prozac.

There is also the possibility of serotonin syndrome if these drugs are used together. The symptoms of the serotonin syndrome may include altered consciousness, irritability, confusion, hallucinations, tachycardia, hyperthermia, diaphoresis, shivering, blood pressure lability, mydriasis, tremor, rigidity, hyperreflexia, myoclonus, ataxia, abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and coma.

We also found a drug interaction between Xanax (alprazolam) and Prozac (fluoxetine). This combination may impair psychomotor performance and have an adverse effect on your driving skills. The reports suggested that the risk of cardiac toxicity such as bradycardia may also be increased.

Subj: I am so excited!
Date: 1/26/2011
I went to my doctor to talk to her about a weight loss plan. I am 28 and I am fairly active. I have struggled with weight for a while, and I have had enough! I am 5’0″ and I was 189 pounds. I was considered obese. My doctor prescribed Adipex, and I have been taking it for a month and a half, and I have lost 23 pounds! I am so excited! My clothes fit better, I am starting to look at myself differently. I actually want my husband to touch me! LOL I do not have insomnia anymore, which is wonderful. I do not have the urge to eat, but I do eat since I know my body needs the nutrients. Adipex is helping me change my life!

Subj: Stomach pain burning
Date: 1/28/2011
I have been taking adipex for 4 days now. on the third day my stomach starts hurting had a burning feeling, like acid, I thought I had to vomit. So I thought I was hungry and I ate a slice of pizza but that didnt stop the stomach ache. Other then that ive noticed that my fac looks thinner and my looks as if it might be a little smaller but can not really tell. So should I stop taking adipex and if I continue will the stomach ache go away?

Joselyn

AskDocWeb: Upset stomach and stomach cramps are listed as possible side effects of Adipex that may go away as the body adjusts to the medication.

Subj: I would recommend Adipex to anyone
Date: 2/5/2011
I have been taking Adipex for 12 days now. When I started taking it I weighed 257lb, I now weigh 235. I do at least 30 min of exercise a day. I also have a meal replacement shake for breakfast and lunch then eat a normal dinner. Keeping portion control in mind. I now read all the labels on whatever I eat. I keep almonds with me at all times in case I need a snack. I am 5’10 and would like to get down to 170 at least. So far I have had no side effects expect losing 22lbs in 12 days. I also drink a lot of water I gave up soda and no artificial sweeteners. Before starting this I did sit down with My Doctor and make a plan I brought the meal replacement in so he could make sure it was a good choice for me. I use Total Soy I get it at Sam’s Club it is about $20 for 47 shakes. You can mix them with water or milk I use milk. I would recommended Adipex to anyone who wants to lose a significant amount of weight. Keeping in mind I have only been taking it 12 days. I think the important thing is exercise diet and a life style change. GOOD LUCK!

Subj: Pulmonary hypertension
Date: 2/5/2011
I started taking Adipex in my late 20’s and now am in my mid 30’s. Since that time, I have suffered severe physical issues. I have a blood clot, severely fatigued, etc. I had awesome results from it with losing weight but now I have pulmonary hypertension which could be fatal. Not worth it!

Subj: Fat loss or hair loss!?
Date: 2/6/2011
I started taking Adipex about a month ago, I had a baby in October and couldn’t seem to get the weight off…well I’ve lost 15lbs so far, but I’m not sure if that’s because of fat loss or hair loss!? My hair has been coming out in gobs! I looked it up last nite and it is a side effect of the Adipex! My husband and I decided it’s better to have a little meat on my bones than a bald head! Today will be my first day off of it….Good luck ladies! Ps: My sister started taking Adipex at the same time as me and has also lost 15lbs but still has a full head of hair.

Subj: Unexplained weight gain
Date: 2/13/2011
Hi, I am 18 years old and mysteriously last year I gained a whopping 15 pounds. No change to my diet at all just a whopping gain. I already was on the chunky side (at that time being 5’8 and 169 pounds) and now im at a whopping 191 (I gained even more when I gave up on diet and excersize). No matter what I just couldn’t drop the pounds and I lost hope. My girlfriend had her doctor prescribe her the pill a few months ago and has had miraculous results. I was just wondering If maybe this pill would help me out? I am sick and tired of being an 18 year old looking and feeling like I have popped out a couple kids. Please Help!

Sarah

AskDocWeb: Adipex may help but you will need to get a checkup to find out if it is appropriate for your situation. Please note that unexplained weight gain may indicate a developing medical problem.

Subj: MIRACLE drug!

Subj: Drug induced hair loss
Date: 2/17/2011
How long should it take for my hair to stop falling out after I quit taking Adipex?

Allison

AskDocWeb: Most drug induced hair loss is reversible once the drug is discontinued however, that may take up to 4 to 6 months.

Subj: Brittle hair
Date: 2/18/2011
I have used adipex off and on for the past 3 years and for the past year I have experienced very brittle hair. It has broken off and become very thin. I have not used adipex for about 3mths and do not plan to use it ever again. My question is ‘have I done permanent damage to my hair?’ Will hair vitamins help and can I expect this to ever get better? If so, how long will it take before it gets better? Please respond.

Sherry
