Subj: Adipex and seizures
Date: 6/1/2005
I’ve been on this drug off/on for the last few years. I have lost weight on it, although it does seem to lose its effectiveness once you’ve been on it for a while. Recently, I had a side effect that my doctors believed was due to the Adipex.
I passed out in a doctor’s office (partly due to nerves and the fact that the air wasn’t working properly in his office). Although I believed I only passed out, I was told later that I had had 2 seizures, neither of which I could remember having. A CAT scan and MRI showed no brain dysfunction. Two doctors believed that the Adipex led to the seizures, and I have no other explanation for it other than that. I had no background health issues related to seizures nor did anyone else in my family.
This is a brain altering chemical and while I can’t say that I felt addicted to it, I have to wonder how healthy it was to be on it for any length of time. I’m now trying some other options but feel that it is important for others to be aware of the risks.

Subj: One month on Adipex
Date: 6/1/2005
I’ve been using adipex for 1 month, and finally I have inspiration, that this med is doing something. When I got on the scale at the Doctor’s office, I realized the scale said 204lbs. This was fully dressed. When I first started I weighed in no shoes on @ 217. So this to me is a great start for only 4 weeks. The headaches I experienced in the being, are barely noticed anymore. I’m hoping to lose approximately 13 to 26 lbs by the end of July. I keep you updated. Thanks,
Melody
Subj: Getting a prescription for Adipex
Date: 6/2/2005
Yes, I was taking adipex ‘but stop taking it, the dietician was too far, an hour away from where I live. Is there another way for me to be seen or given a prescription? I live in West Haven, CT. Signed,
Help me
AskDocWeb: You might start by asking your dietician to recommend someone closer. If that doesn’t work there are many doctors located closer to you than is your dietician. Try the yellow pages in your phonebook and you should be able to find a physician that can give you a prescription for Adipex.
Subj: Lost 26 pounds
Date: 6/8/2005
Hello, I have been taking adipex for about 2 months now and I have lost 26 pounds, but of course I still try to drink at least a gallon to a gallon and half a day. I try to stay away from red meat, no carbs, and no sweets… unless it is that time of the month, and I do eat something sweet so that I will not splurge on other days and times. I have been experiencing some constipation, which I am able to control by just taking a stool softener. I love the pill. It does give me a sense of me going in the right direction. I will continue to take adipex until I reach my goal weight. Good luck to all!

Subj: Amazing results
Date: 6/9/2005
I have been on this twice in the last 3 years. My advice for anyone that takes it is to consult your doctor first due to its side affects on your body. I have had results that were so fast that I was simply amazed. The first week I take this pill I usually have 2 sleepless nights right in a row because it gives you boosted energy. I have to constantly remind myself to eat due to the suppression of hunger and I drink a ton and I mean a ton of water. I have never taken it for more than two months in a row and have never taken more than one pill a day and have averaged a 28lb weightloss each time I took it. I did gain the weight back after the first time I took it due to self-discipline issue (we can all relate I’m sure). I simply find this medication ideal for myself and for my lifestyle. I do WARN you as it does when you get the script also not to take decongestiants with this! I took one and my heart rate was in the 150s and bounding… Thats a little scary and took about 8 hours before it was back to normal. Good Luck to all!

Subj: Lost 44 pounds so far
Date: 6/15/2005
I started taking Adipex in December, 04. It is now 6 months later and I have gone from 245lbs to 201lbs. I am very happy with the results. And want to continue until I loose 70lbs. No side effects with the exception of dry mouth. I walk every day and watch my carb, fats, and calorie intake. I would encourage anyone to at least give it a try if it is hard for you to loose the weight.

AskDocWeb: Drink lots of water with Adipex to help with the dry mouth.
Subj: Regaining confidence
Date: 6/15/2005
I am 25 years old, 5 ft 2 and weighed 196lbs. I recently got married and my husband and I have toyed with the idea of having children. I decided that if we were going to have children, I didn’t want to be fat and then get pregnant and get fatter. I want to be able to keep up with my kids and I want to be healthier. My weight used to fluctuate 118-125. Then I met my husband and that was it. I got lazy and ate out of boredom and in 3 years, I put on almost 80 lbs.
I have tried to watch what I eat and to exercise, but I come from a long line of emotional eaters. I ate when I was upset, happy, bored, or for no reason at all. Nothing was working and I was feeling worse and worse. While my blood pressure was fine, my cholesterol was over 220.
I went to my doctor and we spoke about this and she recommended Adipex. I have been on Adipex for 2 1/2 months. I eat less fast food and I only eat when I am hungry. The only side effect that I have is dry mouth and that just makes you drink more water, which is good for you. I am now down to 168 lbs and still going strong. I enjoy shopping again and I have regained some of my confidence back.
I am really excited about how well this pill works. After all, you are only in your 20’s once and I want to be thin.

Subj: Love Adipex
Date: 6/17/2005
I love adipex. I’ve been taking it now for six months and I’ve lost about 35lbs. And this is with some cheating in between. I have some side effects though: restlessness, severe constipation.

Subj: I did it!
Date: 7/6/2005
i am a 26 year old medical assistant. I am very busy – I have 2 kids, a 3 year old and a 5 year old. I work full time, have an at-home business, and am opening another one. I also have PCOD, which causes major trunktal obesity. I saw a dietician for help and she gave me Adipex, and I have lost over 50lbs in 6 months. My energy has increased, I feel much better about myself and my self-esteem has raised. But, I was told to drink at least 40oz of water per day if not more, eat nothing white, eat half of what I usually would, don’t completely deprive myself of sweets but don’t go overboard either, exercise, and I can eat all of the raw fruits and veggies I want to through the day. In fact she told me to eat more fruits and veggies to snack on through the day. You have to watch your blood pressure, especially if you are on an SSRI (anti-depressant), and just stick to it. It is not a quick fix, it is a life style change and is not recommended for anyone who is looking for a quick fix. I wanted to be thin again so bad and I did it, got off the adipex and have kept up my weight loss regimen and good eating habits. That is always the first step.

Subj: Lost 40 lbs. with Adipex
Date: 7/7/2005
I have taken adipex for quite a few months and I have lost about 40 lbs. Adipex will work for you, some people it just takes a little longer to see results. I never exercise very much at ALL! The pill makes you not hungry and when you do get hungry you eat a few bites and are full again. The main thing that happens I think is that it shrinks your stomach over time, therefore when you do get off of the pill when you eat too much, you will know it when your stomach starts hurting.
Adipex is suppose to be used with a calorie diet. Not a carb diet. The calorie diet with adipex for women is 1200 and men is 1500. This is what I was told from the weight loss center that I got the pill from. I have probably never got to 1200 but stayed more along the 500-1000 calories a day. In fact when I first started taking the pill I would go to bed at night and completely forget to eat… if you have questions email me. OH, and adipex will make you VERY, VERY MOODY AND IRRATIBALE, so let everyone around you know that your not trying to be mean its just your diet pills talking…Good luck

Subj: Adipex and insomnia
Date: 7/20/2005
I have tried adipex and the only trouble I have had has been insomnia at night. It’s just like I lay their wide awake and can’t go to sleep. I was wondering does this happen to anyone else at first. Please let me know?
Confused
AskDocWeb: Yes, others have reported the same problem.
Subj: Stomach will not stop bubbling
Date: 7/21/2005
I have been taking Adipex for six days and I feel horrible. I am tired, my stomach will not stop bubbling, I am sleepy, agitated, nauseated, and dizzy. I really want to loose weight, but this pill is driving me crazy. How long will these side effects go on?
Destiny
AskDocWeb: It sounds like Adipex may not work for you. Better talk with your doctor about an alternative.
Subj: Drug testing
Date: 8/4/2005
Will taking Adipex make me test positive on a drug test at work where we are not supposed to take any stimulants or depressants.
Courtney
AskDocWeb: Yes, Adipex is an amphetamine. And you would have to be off of it for 14 days before a drug test would show clear.
Subj: Uncomfortable reactions
Date: 8/6/2005
I started taking adipex, I had such uncomfortable reactions. I felt like I was in a daze, sleepy, my mouth was so dry I kept feeling like I was gagging, I needed to drink day and night, I had heart palpitations, and I was jittery. I contacted my doctor who told me to take it every other day. I haven’t taken it yet. I will, and I’ll let you know the outcome.
