Subj: Extremely irritable and horrible mood swings
Date: 2/19/2011
Take Adipex at your own risk.. I’ve been on and off of it for the last 2 years. Yes, it curbs your appetite, and helps you lose 10 pounds, but it’s not worth it. When I was on Adipex, people didn’t want to be around me because I became extremely irritable, and had horrible mood swings. Also, it makes your heart beat incredibly fast, which can’t be healthy.

Subj: Is it safe to take oxy elite pro with adipex?
Date: 2/21/2011
I’ve always had a problem with my weight ever since i was younger. I’m 18, about 5’6 and i weight about 230.. Im going to the weight doctor tomorrow for him to put me on adipex and give me a b12 shot, but would it be safe to take adipex and oxy elite pro at the same time or would that be just too much? thank you,
Kelc
AskDocWeb: It is quite likely that your doctor will tell you that combining the two would cause problems. Both are stimulants and where each might make you feel some nervousness or jitters, the combination is likely to be too much. Always talk to your doctor before using any stimulant with Adipex.
Subj: Adipex-P effects to wear off
Date: 2/22/2011
I am on Adipex-P 37.5 (not generic) for almost two weeks but after the first week I noticed it does not suppress my appetite like it was the first week. after taking in the morning I feel ravished for food stomach growling…so different from first week. I heard it took longer for the effects to wear off(like 2 months).
Jenn
AskDocWeb: The length of time that diet drugs are effective varies from one person to the next. When it stops working, known as tolerance, talk with your doctor. Do NOT take more than prescribed. That only increases the risk of serious side effects.
Subj: Trouble breathing
Date: 2/26/2011
I’ve just started my second month of Adipex. I had no problems the first month and lost around 27lbs by taking the pill and eating 1000 cals a day. But this week my heart rate is up and I have a strange feeling from the middle of my throat to my chest, it feels kind of like trouble breathing, or anxiety. Should I be concerned?
Anita
AskDocWeb: Both anxiety and trouble breathing could indicate a serious reaction so check with your doctor.
Subj: Adipex and conception
Date: 3/1/2011
It is ok to take adipex when your trying to conceive?
Crystal
AskDocWeb: The FDA puts Adipex in Pregnancy Category C. Studies with animal testing of reproduction have NOT been conducted with ADIPEX. (Thank you PITA) It is also not known whether Adipex can cause fetal harm when taken by a pregnant woman or whether it can affect reproductive capacity. The manufacturer recommends that Adipex be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed.
Nursing Mothers: The manufacturer recommends making a decision whether to discontinue the drug or discontinue nursing if using Adipex. This is because of the potential for serious adverse reaction in nursing infants and must take into account the importance of the drug to the mother.
Subj: Adipex not working after three months
Date: 3/1/2011
Is there a higher dose of adipex than the 37.5 mg..I feel as though mine are not working after taking them for three months I have lost 13 lbs but have been stuck now for a month at the same weight.
denise
AskDocWeb: The 37.5 mg dose is the highest dose that is safe to take. Taking more is NOT recommended as that will increase the chances of adverse reactions such as seizures, chest pain, anxiety, stomach pain, fatigue, depression, hallucination, vomiting, and diarrhea. If it is not working then maybe it is time to reassess your weight loss plan so check back with your doctor.
Subj: Gastric bypass patient
Date: 3/1/2011
As a gastric bypass patient my insides are quite differerent from those who haven’t had the surgery. It’s been over 5 years since I had my stomach stapled and it’s gotten a lot harder to maintain a healthy weight. I recently put on 40lbs and my doctor gave me adipex to help control my appetite. My question is will my body be able to breakdown and/or absorb this pill properly? I took one today and didn’t feel much!! Maybe if I crushed it? suggestions are welcome!!!!!
Kristin
AskDocWeb: The patient information for Adipex says that you should not crush, chew or open any tablets or capsules that are intended for once daily use. Keep in mind that weight loss is not something with which you can get instant results. Your doctor would not prescribe Adipex unless he or she thought that your body would absorb it sufficient enough to produce results. Those who get the best results are the ones who focus on making the necessary changes to their diet and activity level.
Subj: Does Adipex effect your period?
Date: 3/2/2011
Does Adipex effect your period? I have been on Adipex for about a month (lost 20lb so far yay) but I have had light to moderately heavy bleeding for about 2 weeks. I also take the Depo shot for birth control. Should I not get my Depo for a while?
Ann
AskDocWeb: Adipex interacts with more than 70 different drugs but Depo-Provera is not one of them. Although changes in menstruation are not listed among the possible side effects of Adipex there are several reports of that. There has been some speculation that spotting and bleeding when it is not yet time for the period may be caused by Adipex reducing the estrogen level in your system, which causes the uterine lining to shed. However, that is speculation and not yet confirmed.
Subj: Adipex makes me sleepy
Date: 3/4/2011
I have taken adipex for 2 weeks now and have only lost 5lbs. Not really having any symptoms. I know it hasn’t given me much energy because it makes me sleepy and i need to take a nap. Think i need a higher precription.
To Allison: When my baby was about 4 months old I lost alot of my hair. Its normal….it just your hormones adjusting. Are you nursing? My hair ended up growing back…

Subj: When will I see any weight loss?
Date: 3/4/2011
I just started Adipex and I would like to know how long does it usually take to start being efficient i.e. when will I see any weight loss?
Anouche
AskDocWeb: Weight loss typically begins in the first week however, progress depends on a couple of major factors. The first is whether or not you make changes to your eating habits. The second major factor is the amount of physical activity you engage in on a regular basis. Although Adipex can assist you in losing weight, it is not a replacement for good nutrition, eating wisely, and exercising properly. If you don’t make the lifestyle changes to your diet and exercise then you are likely going to gain the weight back when you discontinue the drug.
Subj: Lower stomach cramping and diarrhea
Date: 3/4/2011
I started taking Adipex a few days ago and have bad lower stomach cramping and diarrhea. Any suggestions?
Mary
AskDocWeb: Stomach upset may occur in the first few days of taking Adipex but should diminish as your body adjusts to the medicine. Both diarrhea and stomach cramps are signs of a possible overdose so talk to your doctor as soon as possible. Taking more of this medication than prescribed will NOT produce better results. Taking too much can produce restlessness, tremor, rapid respiration, confusion, assaultiveness, hallucinations, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, panic attacks, fatigue and depression.
Subj: What happens when i get off Adipex?
Date: 3/6/2011
been on adipex for nearly two months – love it – lost 17.5 lbs. changed my eating habits, exercise 4 – 5 times a week, drink lots of water, stopped drinking carbonated drinks and alcohol. i have 15 more lbs to lose–what happens when i get off of this medicine? Any suggestions?
Falcon
AskDocWeb: You might feel the loss of the stimulant for awhile but that lasts only a few days. As long as you maintain healthy eating habits and exercise there is a good chance of keeping your weight under control.
Subj: Suggestions to increase weight loss?
Date: 3/10/2011
I had the lap band surgery last April and started at 315 and lost approximately 40 pounds. I recently started taking Adipex about two weeks under a doctor’s supervision and have lost about 3 pounds. The only side effect I have experienced is a really bad headache(back of my head and neck. My husband who started it with me has had an erectile dysfunction side effects. We see the nurse weekly and have our blood pressure and weight checked and all is fine. Do you have any suggestions to increase our weight loss to a couple of pounds per week and for our side effects?
Mary
AskDocWeb: Have you considered adding some fun to this process? How about taking up a new hobby that involves physical activity, something you could do three days a week? That might be dancing, bowling, swimming, or just taking long walks together. Or you could combine different activities as long as you burn calories together. Good luck.
Subj: Trouble with constipation
Date: 3/15/2011
I have been taking Adipex for about a month now and I’ve lost 14 pds. I’m having some trouble with constipation. I lost 9 pds the first week and 5 pds the second week. I haven’t really been able to lose like i thought I would the rest of the time. I eat healthy and exercise at least 3 times per week. I lead a very active lifestyle so I go all the time. It’s kind of like I’m at a stand still and I’m disappointed. Any advice?
Kim
AskDocWeb: We can’t give you advice because this forum is limited to discussing side effects. Constipation is often a problem for those who don’t increase their intake of liquids while dieting. Your body needs water to properly digest your food. One of the symptoms of dehydration is constipation. If you really need advice, there are doctors online that can help you.
Subj: Energy level
Date: 3/15/2011
I just started using adipex to help me jump start a new work out plan. I have been dieting for a while, but still suffering from lack of energy. I had been told my many people that adipex would give me the energy I needed to get into the swing of a workout plan. I am only on my fourth day, but I have noticed no increase in energy. My appetite is surpressed and I am happy with that, but will my energy levels increase as I continue to take the pill?
Megan
AskDocWeb: If you haven’t experienced an increase in energy by now it is not likely to happen. Just because most people get an increase in energy doesn’t mean that everyone does.
