Subj: Blood pressure sky rocketed
Date: 3/17/2011
Today is my first day taking Adipex(the generic ones) and I took half of it this morning before eating anything. 45 minutes later I was already hungry, but after awhile I stopped being hungry and in the afternoon I still wasn’t hungry, but I ate anyway. My husband said that I’m breathing in and out really hard and loud as if I just got done working out or I’m having a hard time breathing, but I feel normal.
While on the pill I checked my blood pressure at my local pharmacy and my blood pressure sky rocketed to 180. Is that normal and is it okay? I’m having a little bit of chest pain. I’m not sure if I’m having chest pain because of the bad reviews I read happening to other people or if I am really experiencing chest pain from this pill. I also read that it gives people energy, but I’m not really feel super energetic, just a little bit of energy. It’s kind of suppressing my appetite, but its just weird because of how I felt hungry after taking the pill. Any advice as to what I should do?
Julia
AskDocWeb: Problems breathing and high blood pressure are both reasons to check back with your doctor.
Subj: Afraid I will gain back
Date: 3/22/2011
My doc has suggested Adipex-P because I have tried everything. When I work out 3 X a week I maintain. I would love to have something that jump starts my metabolism. However, I’m having a hard time dealing with the ‘quick fix’ aspect of this. I’m very afraid I will come off it and gain back plus some. Any advice?
Lisa
AskDocWeb: We encourage you to think about what those who were most successful did to achieve their results. Since you work out several times a week, it sounds like you have that part covered. That leaves lifestyle changes to eating habits and diet for areas of possible improvement. Most people can benefit from focusing more on nutrition and raising the quality of what they eat.
Subj: Adipex is no longer curbing cravings
Date: 3/22/2011
I have been on Adipex for a month now and have only lost five pounds! I thought the weight was supposed to “fall off me” according to my doctor. I don’t know what I should do. The first week Adipex curved my cravings and gave me energy with minor problems with not being able to sleep, but I have always had insomnia. Now that I am a month into taking these pills Adipex is no longer curving my cravings, this actually stopped after the first week, and I have the same energy level as I used to before I took Adipex. Anyone have any suggestions?
Ashley
AskDocWeb: It sounds like it is time to check back with your doctor. Adipex is only a short-term treatment and the length of time that it works varies with the individual.
Subj: Adipex is the best diet pill
Date: 3/24/2011
I have been on Adipex for 2 months now! I’ve lost 23 pounds but I work out extremely hard 3-4 days out of the week. It is the best diet pill I have ever tried! I mean it works differently on many person some people can’t handle it and give up on it but it is great. I was weighing 165 to now 143 people can’t believe how small I am in that short period of time. But you have to eat properly as well and drink plenty water and exercise and the weight melts away!!!!

Subj: Feeling out of sorts and headaches
Date: 3/24/2011
I have been using Adipex-P for 1 week. I began on 1/2 tablet dosage for a few days and then started to take a whole tablet. The half tablet dose was fine- decreased appetite and no hyperactivity. The whole tablet dose made me feel “strange” – not jittery or hyper but out of sorts. I also had bad headaches in the evening. I switched back to half tab dose and no more headaches and I feel better. Staying with the half tab for now.

Subj: Noticeable results
Date: 3/26/2011
I have been using Adipex since Feb. 9, 2011 along with the HCG injection monthly. The only side effect with the Adipex the first week or so was severe dry mouth and a little dizzy but that went away. I started out at 166 and I’m now 153.3 with a loss of 15 inches as of March 26, 2011. The inch loss is very, very noticeable. (I am 5′ 3 1/2″) My goal is 135 lbs. Yes, I’m under the care of a physician. I do not count calories. I eat very healthy but always have…it was the portions I had to learn to control.
My daughter is also on Adipex and the injections and has had wonderful results. Like others, it truly helps control the cravings for sweets. Just a little bite of something totally satisfies me now. I’ve read you should take a month off from the Adipex after being on it for 4 months. I’m sure it will be a challenge but since I know my stomach has shrunk, I’ll get through it. Best of luck to all of you.

Subj: Question?
Date: 3/30/2011
How can I ask a question?
Mon
AskDocWeb: Do you mean like the question you just asked or something else?
Subj: Nausea and vomiting
Date: 3/31/2011
I just started using adipex two days now started with a whole pill. I was fine intill the P.M stared feeling really nauseaous. Called the doc she said it was normal. Next day took half a pill I was ok but then at night started vomiting could not stop. Don’t know if I should continue?
Anita
AskDocWeb: It is not unusual to experience upset stomachs when first starting Adipex however, nausea and vomiting are listed as a symptom of overdose so do let your doctor know that the vomiting is continuing.
Subj: Change in menstruation
Date: 3/31/2011
I have been taking adipex for a few weeks now but get my period 5 days on my period 3 days off my period has been the rotating schedule the past 3 weeks. I have also started B12 shot 2 weeks ago. I was other wise normal menstruation before I started these. My doc says it may be something else besides the drugs, but I beg to differ any advise?
Angel
AskDocWeb: It is not listed among the officially recognized side effects for Adipex but several women have been reported a change in menstruation timing, both early and late while using this drug. However, it is still POSSIBLE that the change in your period was caused by something else.
Subj: What am I doing wrong?
Date: 4/1/2011
I am 26 years old 5’3″ and weight 152, I would like to lose 20-30 pounds. I have been taking adipex for a week, eating healthy, and I have not lost any weight. What am I doing wrong? Help!!!
Melissa
AskDocWeb: Hi Melissa, welcome to the forum. Adipex is most successfully used when combined with changes in diet, exercise, and behavior therapy. Just going by your description it appears that you are leaving out the part where you increase activity so that your body gets more exercise. What are you doing to increase your level of activity?
Subj: Adipex for headache prevention?
Date: 4/4/2011
I started on Adipex three weeks ago today. I lost 7 pounds the first two weeks with pretty much zero effort. I have not experienced any side effects other than maybe a heightened feeling of energy for the first few hours after taking it. So I take it as soon as I get up, before I do anything else.
Here is my comment, and I have heard another person say this BEFORE I mentioned it. I have suffered with almost-daily chronic headaches and debilitating migraines for 38 years. I am 54 years old now. I rarely go two days without SOME level or form of headache. Yes, I have tried it all including biofeedback therapy. Since taking the Adipex starting three weeks ago, I HAVE NOT EVEN HAD A SLIGHT TWINGE OF A HEADACHE OF ANY KIND, no matter what I do. My question is, since I did hear this same thing from a lifelong headache sufferer besides me, has there been any discussion/research into approving this drug for headache prevention?
I cannot even imagine not having headaches. It would seem as unnatural to me as having a leg missing. Yet for three weeks I have been blissfully and unbelievably headache-free. I don’t care if the long-term use of Adipex will lose its hunger-staving properties. If it will prevent me from the headaches, I can at least live the final third of my life with some relief. I wish I knew who to contact to get some research done into this. Millions of people suffer from chronic headaches. And spend millions of dollars on useless treatments.
Teresa
AskDocWeb: The use of Adipex for headache prevention would be an off-label use, which is not sanctioned by the FDA. The fact that it causes headaches in some people suggests that something unusual is going on in your case. Physicians do sometimes prescribe drugs that are not FDA-approved for an off-label purpose but that is rare.
Subj: Tired and no energy
Date: 4/5/2011
I just started taking adipex for the second time. In the morning and early afternoon i feel fine and i have energy, but in midday i began to feel very tired and no energy for the rest of the day. one day i even took a nap and woke just as tired, is this normal?
TD
AskDocWeb: One way that users report coping with that is to take half in the morning and the other half just after noon to keep from crashing. Sometimes the reason for feeling tired is that you aren’t getting enough exercise. Feeling fatigue is also a symptom of dehydration, not drinking enough water.
Subj: Continual menstruation/spotting
Date: 4/11/2011
The Adipex has been wonderful EXCEPT for the continual menstruation/spotting that I never had any issues with before. Along with this are the cramping, drawing feeling and low back pain associated with menstruation. I have only been on for 16 days and I am wondering if this will subside.

Subj: What is the problem?
Date: 4/12/2011
I have been dignosed with PCOS and I am now on adipex I don’t take anything for my PCOS because I think that once I lose weight most of my problems will go away I have been taking adipex for 16 days now and I have lost 11 pounds but when I weighed today I have gained 3 back but I’m doing nothing different what is the problem?
Tina
AskDocWeb: There are a lot of possible reasons for that, but you would have to check with your doctor for specifics. Sometimes doing nothing different IS the problem.
