Adipex Review
Date: 12/8/2011
My starting weight was 185 lbs (And I’m 5ft 5in) I started Adipex on 11/16/11.
BENEFITS: -Day 1: I had SO MUCH ENERGY! I was talking and moving a mile a minute. 18 days later, my energy level is still very high.
-Zero Food cravings: I’ve had no cravings and no appetitie at all. You will have to MAKE yourself eat. I usually have yogurt & juice for breakfast, a small salad w/Turkey meat for lunch, and a small dinner (chicken, fish, a little rice & veggies, salad, or corn flakes w/milk- depending on my mood) I don’t snack.
-WEIGHT LOSS: (see below)
THE BAD SIDE: -I had horrible insomnia for the first 2 days. Besides staring at the ceiling all night, the energy level that I had the days after having no sleep was still so high, it didn’t bother me at all. (The insomnia phased out by Day 5.)
-Constipation. Uugh! I am very regular and this pill causes HORRIBLE consipation. I took 2 laxatives and 6 hours later, I had a very unpleasant experience. LOL. I won’t do that again! Thankfully I was at home, but my tummy was upset the entire next day. From reading this forum, I think I need to drink more water to combat that.
-SWEATING: This is #2 on the list of uugh side-effects. Any bit of slight activity/exertion makes me sweat.
-Nausea: Occasionally I’ll feel a little nauseated. But it usually passes quickly.
-Dry mouth: I’ve had it, but it’s not horrible. Just drink a lot of water.
OVERVIEW: I take a pill every morning around 6:30 AM & I also only take 1/2 a pill on the weekends. (I also take a multi-vitamin & lisinopril for blood pressure) I didn’t work out for the first 8 days and I only lost 2 lbs. (I wanted to give it a week to see how my body would react.) I’ve done 1 hour of cardio per day for 9 days and as of today I’ve lost an additional 8 lbs. So in 23 days, I’ve lost 10 lbs, even with not working out for a total of 10 days.
This week, my weight loss has stalled a little. I’ve lost about 1/2 a lb in 3 days. I think that because I’m not HUGE, it’ll be harder for me to lose more weight, but I have 20-25 lbs to go, so any suggestions to get my weight loss back in gear would be greatly appreciated. I’m already impressed with the amount I’ve lost and the changes I’ve made. Good Luck!

AskDocWeb: For suggestions you might consider those factors that you are NOT paying attention to. Here are some things to consider or change:
- Meal size
- Using smaller plates and glasses
- Eating healthier snacks
- Counting calories
- Using spices that aid weight loss
- Reducing the amount of processed food
- Find better ways to conquer cravings
- Rewarding yourself for progress
That last one is especially important to keep yourself motivated. The reward works better if it supports your goal. Remember that the idea is to improve the quality of your life. A high calorie treat is NOT a good reward.
Qualifying for Adipex
Date: 12/8/2011
How much weight do you need to lose to get your doctor to put you on this?
Kayla
AskDocWeb: That varies from one individual and doctor to the next. Generally those people with a BMI of 30 or more with no other health issues can get it.

AskDocWeb: Breathing problems or any difficulty breathing is listed as a possible side effect that should be reported to your doctor as soon as possible. The same is true for fast or uneven heartbeats. Please see Amanda’s post about the effect of Adipex on menstrual cycle.
Leg cramps
Date: 12/27/2011
I also experience leg cramps, the same as when pregnant. I have taken the pills and by the 2nd day have cramping. I also stopped taking them for a few months and started again and the same thing. I had taken them years ago and didn’t have this problem.

Ringing in ears and feel sleepy
Date: 1/2/2012
As most of you have stated, I have tried everything to lose weight. I’m currently on weight watchers but that seemed to be doing nothing. Today is my first day on Adipex. I’m also on high blood pressure medication. I’m noticing ringing in my ears and I feel sleepy. Will this go away with time?
Jennifer
AskDocWeb: That ringing in your ears (Tinnitus) is not listed as one of the possible side effects of Adipex. You might want to check the Tinnitus Causes to see if one of your other medications is on that list. A discussion forum follows that article.
There are chemicals in Adipex that can interfere with sleep, which can result in excessive fatigue and drowsiness throughout the day. Please don’t hesitate to alert your doctor to this side effect. Your dosage may be adjusted or you might switch to another medication.
Severe hair loss
Date: 1/3/2012
I took Adipex for 4 weeks (5/20) and lost 14lbs. I quit for 2 weeks and then in the next 3 1/2 months I took only 15 total (cut the pills into 3 parts). Went down another 16 lbs. I started to have fairly severe hair loss in late September and all of October. I stopped any Adipex on November 1st. I currently have lost half my hair.
The dermatologist put me on men’s rogaine on Dec 1. I also found from a beautician a product called Anuva (link removed). I use the scalp vitalizing and the hair nourshing complex. The hair loss has gone down from over 200 a day to between 75 & 100 hairs a day, which is normal. I also use morrocan oil weekly to help with the dryness.
I won’t use the adipex again, as now I use my phone app called ‘calorie counter’ which I use to keep track of my calories and my exercise and my weight on a daily basis. Keeps my on track and I am really close to my goal of 150 lbs. My hair is slowly glowing back, but I will not take any more chances of losing it again!
