Dry mouth and more energy
Date: 2/15/2012
I just started taking Adipex today. I been having problems with my weight for the last 2 yrs. I had stage 3 ovarian cancer 1 and 1/2 yrs ago and had a complete hysterectomy. Also I was just diagnosed with arthritis in both legs and feet so it makes exercise a challenge. I have gained about forty pound due to these problems. I am 44 yrs old and want very much to get healthy. I am counting calories and my doctor wants me to follow a 1200 calorie diet. He has also asked me to try to quit smoking and I am a little worried that this will make me gain weight or at least make it hard to loose weight. I really hope this medicine works because my quality of life is really suffering due to these problems. So far so good. Today I did have dry mouth, and more energy, and was able to come very close to my 1200 calorie goal.

Use Melatonin for sleep
Date: 2/18/2012
I have been taking Adipex for about a week and a half now. I am 29 years old, 5’8″ and my starting weight was 180. I have lost 5 pounds so far. As far as the side effects go, I haven’t noticed too many. I have a little trouble sleeping and for that I take Melatonin before bedtime, which is a natural sleep aid. It helps me sleep like a baby. I’m eating less. I haven’t really been exercising, but will start soon. I just bought a new treadmill so hopefully that will help. Very thirsty, but that helps me drink more water. I’m hoping for great results. I want to lose 30 lbs and keep it off. Wish me luck and good luck to all of you!

Michelle

AskDocWeb: It sounds like you are off to a good start Michelle. If you can make exercise into a habit that you maintain even after the treatment, you stand a better chance of keeping the weight under control. Good luck and keep up the good work.

fast heavy heart beat
Date: 2/19/2012
I used adipex about a year a go and had lost 30 lbs in 3 months and I didn’t feel anything back then. But I gained some of the weigh back, now I am taking it again but this time sometimes I am feeling my heart beat getting faster and heavier, can you tell me anything about that?

Anna

AskDocWeb: A faster heartbeat (even without exercise) is listed as one of the possible side effects that should be reported to the prescribing doctor at once. This is a danger signal so please do not ignore it.

Menstrual cycle still going strong?
Date: 2/22/2012

Brittany

AskDocWeb: Adipex may have a verity of effects on the menstrual cycle. Please see Dry mouth and late period.

Success rate for keeping the weight off?
Date: 2/23/2012
So, I’ve seen tons of forums where people continued to diet and exercise just as they were before coming off of Adipex, but still gained back most, if not all of their weight. This has frightened me a little. What is the success rate for keeping the weight off after stopping the pill?

Michelle (again)

AskDocWeb: It appears that “success rates” are only published when they are good enough to encourage the sale of a product. Some insurance companies don’t cover weight loss drugs, possibly because the low success rate doesn’t warrant the cost. However, losing weight to improve your health is still an admirable goal and worth pursuing. Losing just 2% to 3% of excess body weight can greatly reduce your risk for chronic diseases and improve the quality of your life. Once you have lost weight it takes less effort to do things and you have more energy. That alone is enough to make you feel better able to cope with the day to day business of life.

What kind of exercises can I do?
Date: 2/24/2012
I need to know what kind of exercises can I do if I taking Adipex? I love zumba… buy I dont know if I can only practice slow exercises… like walk o cycle. Thanks,

Elizabeth

AskDocWeb: That depends on what kind of physical condition you are in. Walking is good for most people but beyond that you should consult with your doctor for recommendations.

Not hot headed this time
Date: 2/25/2012
Two months ago I started adipex and I notice a big difference in my energy level it boosted my energy level up to the point I have to do something which is good cause I was a couch potatoe. So it has motivated me to work out so I am now 3 days a week. While I got off of it for two months and cont. my diet and working out I did gain a little back bout 4lbs and I still had the energy boost.

I lost 30lbs on it and I love it. My other half dont cause I became hot headed and felt like I come rip my hubby head off when I got mad. Well now I am back on it again this time I am not hot headed.

Ke

AskDocWeb: Putting your extra energy into exercise is much more productive and both you and your husband probably feel better.

The key to keeping the weight off
Date: 2/28/2012
I took Adipex previous in the year for 3 months and lost a total of 37 lbs..I loved it. I didnt have any side effects. I didnt notice an increase in energy however I did notice I had absolutely no appetite. My dietitian went through lengths to educate me of the importance of portion sizes and eating multiple times a day..3 meals and 3 snacks. When I followed this precisely I had great results, However after being off Adipex for approximately 6 months my eating habits have again went to their old ways and I have gained 25 lbs back. I began working out again and focusing on diet and am beginning Adipex again in a few weeks…consistency in changing to healthy eating is the key to keeping the weight off after you stop taking Adipex or ultimately you will gain it back! Good Luck!

Adipex after prozac
Date: 3/1/2012
I’m starting adipex prescription tomorrow. I’m 5 9 and weigh 298 lbs. I’m currently taking prozac for anxiety. I’m going to stop taking the prozac tomorrow so I can safely take the adipex. Is this right or normal? Also, is there a certain activity I should do to help boost the weight loss?

Jeremy

AskDocWeb: To avoid a toxic reaction, please talk to your doctor about how many days you should be off prozac before starting Adipex. In any case do not stop taking any medication without first consult with your healthcare provider.

In choosing what kind of exercise to help you lose weight, you have to consider your age and present fitness level. If you haven’t been exercising recently, it is best to begin by walking, which can later be increased to jogging for a healthy cardiovascular workout. With walking you’re less likely to injure yourself. One of the mistakes beginners make is doing too much too soon, which can lead to discouraging injuries that may end to your exercise program.

For optimum cardiovascular fitness, we recommend walking every day. At first, aim for 30 minutes five times a week and work up to 45 minutes a day every day. Once you feel that you’re in shape you can consider whether to continue with your walking program or to try jogging.

We have found that doing a variety of different kinds workouts to be beneficial. The more you vary the intensity, duration, and type of exercise (walking, jogging, biking, swimming, hiking, dancing) the more physically challenging each workout will be and the more calories you will burn. Further, the more you alternate the types of exercise you do, the less likely you are to suffer from repetitive stress injuries or become bored with exercising.

Remember that a good workout includes a warm up before the exercise and a cool down with stretching after the workout. When starting out, it is best to work with a trainer who can best suggest the exercises that will benefit you most and teach you how do to them safely.

Congratulations on your resolve to lose weight. Have fun!
