Subj: Pain in the neck?
Date: 6/30/2006
Just started taking adipex 4 days ago. The change in my appetite is staggering. I also have a really bad cough which is unrelated and hope explains my troubling symptom. I have a severe pain, associated with head movement, just on the left upper side of my neck, near where the doctor always checks your glands. Could the adipex be causing this or is it the cold/cough, which I am on antibiotics for?

Philip

AskDocWeb: The adipex is not likely to cause this problem. It sounds like your lymph nodes are swollen and this could be caused by your cold. Watch for signs of improvement while you are on the antibiotic and if none then talk with your doctor.

Subj: Want to loose 40 pounds
Date: 6/30/2006
I have been on Adipex for exactly 2 weeks. The first week I had a lot of energy, but was not seeing any weight loss. I began taking two pills and I have enough energy now to motivate me to hit the gym. So I am now going to the gym. I just started so I have gone twice and about killed myself on the treadmill. The only side effects that I have experienced is the dry mouth, and I cure that by drinking as much water as possible. I had thought about trying to get a stronger prescription, because now that I am into my second week, I catch myself being hungry, and tired. I just force myself to not indulge in the cravings. Anyone, please let me know how to get the results that I need faster. I am 5 foot 4 inches. I weigh 188 pounds and I want to have lost about 40 pounds. I need advice.

Tricia

AskDocWeb: You need to be careful with prescription drugs. Do not double up on the dosage or you could cause some serious problems. There are no fast cures for weight loss. Remember that the faster it comes off the more likely it is to come back. The slower you loose it the more likely you are to keep it off.

Subj: Trouble sleeping
Date: 7/1/2006
Q: I often have trouble sleeping to begin with. Today is the 1st day I’m trying adipex. If I can’t get to sleep is it safe to use a sleep aid such as Ambien, Benadryl, Lunesta, etc.?

Victoria

AskDocWeb: Yes, you can try Benadryl or Lunesta, but we don’t recommend ambien because of what consumers have reported about it. Also, you can talk with your doctor about decreasing your dosage so that you can sleep yet get the weight loss results you want.

Subj: Excellent results from Adipex
Date: 7/3/2006
I have been taking Adipex for 43 days and I have lost 20lbs during this time. My doctor suggested that I take this because he put me on Zoloft and I gained 20lbs in 3 weeks. I am now 126lbs at 5ft 5″ and feeling a lot better about myself. I have cut my meals in half but I’m eating what I want to eat. I will say I sweat ALOT more than usual but I am drinking water like crazy. I am going to continue taking this until I reach my weight goal of 123lbs. I have 2 kids, 10 years old and 2 years old so they keep me pretty active. I have also recommended this to my mom and family and they are having excellent results from Adipex. Good luck to many!

Julie

AskDocWeb: At 126 lbs and 5’5″ your BMI is 21, which is desirable. Adipex is for short-term management of obesity and you are far from that. It makes us wonder what is your doctor thinking.

Subj: No appetite
Date: 7/10/2006
I have been taking apidex for 4 days, I don’t have a appetite at all. I don’t know if that’s good or not but I do exercise and I like the fact that I don’t eat all day, just small meals. I wonder if that’s the way to go. Am I doing the diet the right way? I don’t have an appetite at all, someone please let me know.

Viven

AskDocWeb: With no appetite you have a new opportunity. You can make decisions about what and how much you eat with your head instead of your stomach. Eating small meals is the way to go and avoid eating in-between meals.

Subj: Lost 21 pound
Date: 7/11/2006
I took Adipex for four month and lost 21 pound all together and I am feeling very good.

Subj: Adipex and blood pressure
Date: 7/12/2006
Hello, I’m fixing to take adipex-p and I was wondering if this would have an effect on my high blood pressure. My doctor put me on fluid pills because she said I need to lose weight.

Jackie

AskDocWeb: Adipex-p is known to increase blood pressure. Please talk to your doctor about alternatives.

Subj: Personality changes
Date: 7/15/2006
My wife has been taking Adipex for almost 6 month with only a few “no dose” intervals and it is destroying her mentality. Her total personality has completely changed, she never sleeps, plays and chats online 18 hours a day, has left me and despises her mother. I am still trying to deal with her and hope we can convince her to quit soon enough to save my families lives…terrible side effects…

Subj: Adipex story
Date: 7/20/2006
I have been taking Adipex since June 12. I split the 37.5 mg pill and take 1/2 in the AM approx. one hour after I eat at around 8:00 AM. I keep calories to 250 breakfast, 250 lunch and 500 dinner. I take from each meal enough calories for a snack a few hours after each meal such as a piece of fruit or a slice of whole grain bread, yogurt or celery sticks with fat-free cream cheese. I eat sensibly with lots of veggies and at least 3-4 oz of good protein at each meal. I also take a multi-vitamin and B6/B12 shots every day at a bariatric center. In five weeks I lost 23 lbs-which was alot of water weight I’m sure. I am 5’9″ and weigh 230, and my goal is 150. This has been a great jumpstart to a new lifestyle. I also take a water pill and a potassium pill after I eat lunch and then at around 3:00 PM I take the other 1/2 of the Adipex. I walk at least 4-5 days a week and am now up to 45-55 minutes on the treadmill. I also use the stability ball and do useful exercises for my core area. I lift light weights and do squats -trying to focus on larger muscle groups at least 3 days a week. The loss has slowed but I expect to hit these plateaus throughout my weight-loss journey. I feel like a new person since I have started.

A few days prior to my starting this program I was diagnosed with a thyroid problem and take 75 mcg of synthroid daily. My joints no longer ache and I am not fatigued like I was before. It is important to sleep at least 7-8 hours and I do take a sleep aid every now and then, such as restoril to help me at this time. It is a very light sleep aid and inexpensive. Excedrin PM also helps on sleepless nights.

It is important for those with sluggish metabolisms to realize the importance of sticking to a calorie-in, calorie-out plan with exercise. Food no longer is the focus. Plan your meals ahead of time and don’t wait to eat – you will eat the wrong things if you wait until you are starved. Your body does adjust to the lower calories so make sure you eat at least 1000-1200 calories. I get anywhere from 15-20 grams of fat daily as well. It is important to take in the right kind of fat daily – bodies require a balance.

Good luck to all and pay attention to your body signs. If something doesn’t feel quite right then talk to your doctor or a trained professional.

Subj: Adipex mood changes and stuttering
Date: 7/20/2006
Adipex has alot of mood changes. I am more irritable, and I find myself zoning out during the day. I have a decreased attention span, and I have begun stuttering. When my prescription runs out I will not continue this medication. I’m an RN, and I have to be fully alert at all times.

Subj: Hat Adipex
Date: 7/22/2006
Took phentermine for 1 year and had great results with no side effects or addiction. Started taking adipex 4 days ago and HATE it. I can’t sleep, my hands are shaking and I feel as though I drank 20 cups of coffee. Personally I hate this feeling, although I’m not hungry!

Subj: Send me the product
Date: 7/23/2006
Send me the product to try as requested, and we shall see the evidence and send you feed back. I am about 110 lbs. over weight and tried all sorts of plans. So we will see if you are truthful. Thank you,

Rhonda

AskDocWeb: Sorry, we do not have any products to send. This website is about side effects and what others have experienced when using these products. Trying one weight loss plan after another is a waste of time. If you really want to do something about being overweight then consult with your doctor for help.

Subj: Things you should know about Adipex
Date: 7/24/2006
I started Adipex 11/05 and have lost 70lbs and would like to loose at least 30 more. When I was so overweight at 250 I was considering Gastric Bypass Surgery but opted for this pill instead. At that weight I needed a whole tablet (37.5mg) but now I only need 1/2. Yes, like any diet or surgery there are side effects but as an RN I know that the risk of being Morbidly Obese was just as bad as the risk of taking Adipex. I think of it as a “truth serum” in that you have more emotional control of what and when you are eating. It helps you realize that you have an Eating Disorder and gives you the time to relearn good eating habits. If this does not happen and you do not change you will gain the weight back. It’s the same as having the Surgery but a lot cheaper and safer. The bottom line is, don’t try Adipex until you are ready to change your life forever. You can do it!

Subj: Recommend Adipex
Date: 7/30/2006
I started taking this medicine about a month ago – although it does make you feel a little funny in the beginning, it does what it promises to do. I’ve lost 10 pounds in one month, and I was barely even trying. It makes me not want to eat – and when I do want to eat – I know I can’t eat anything that isn’t healthy, otherwise I will get nauseous. This is a great drug when used correctly – I would definitely recommend it to people who are having trouble losing the weight even when they are dieting and exercising. I was losing a pound a month with diet and exercise – now its 10.

Subj: From Effexor to Adipex
Date: 8/1/2006
Considering taking adipex. I recently got off of effexor for depression, I think my weight has a lot to do with my depression. How long do you have to be off of antidepressant b-4 taking adipex? Please advise. Thank you,

Amy

AskDocWeb: 72 hours should be long enough for it to be out of your system to start adipex. Be sure to read all of the side effects of any weight loss pill before you begin to take them.

Subj: Doctor said to stop using Adipex
Date: 8/2/2006
I was taking Adipex and after 10 days started feeling short of breath and it was like I had a 50-LB weight on my chest. I do smoke and feel that me smoking with the pill may have caused this. It seemed like when I was on the pill I smoked more. Do you think it is okay to keep taking this? My doctor told me to stop. But, I lost 13 lbs. in 10 days. I want to lose more. Maybe if I cut back on the smoking it will help. I don’t have the symptoms anymore since I stopped taking it.

Lorraine

AskDocWeb: Rather than using something that your doctor told you to stop, why not just ask your doctor for a better alternative?

Subj: Lost 9 pounds
Date: 8/2/2006
I began taking adipex along with a high protein diet and lost an amazing 9lbs the first week!

Celecia

Subj: 2nd try
Date: 8/7/2006
I have taken Adipex for 2 months and have only lost 7 lbs. A few days after I stopped taking the drug I was extremely tired for several days and my blood pressure dropped to 85/60. I have some problems with hypoglycemia and depression. I am considering using Adipex again to see if I may have better results the second time. Before I do will have some diagnostic tests run by my doctor. Anyone else have these problems?
