Subj: Sores on body
Date: 8/13/2006
Can this pill cause you to have sores on your body?

Cindy

AskDocWeb: It hasn’t been reported so you should probably talk with your doctor about them.

Subj: Menstrual cycle changes
Date: 8/24/2006
Does this diet pill effect your menstrual cycle? I am flowing heavier than normal while using this medication…has any experienced this before?

Shannon

AskDocWeb: While it is not one of the listed side effects of Adipex (Physician’s Desk Reference) a few women have reported a difference in their menstrual cycle.

Subj: Excellent results from Adipex
Date: 8/28/2006
I have taken Adipex on and off for about three months. The weight loss results are excellent! The side effects are horrible! Sleeplessness, irritability, and an overall disconnected feeling are just a few of the side effects. I have also been experiencing a persistent cough that reappears when I am on the Adipex.

Date: 8/29/2006
I have been using adipex and tenuate together since June 2, 2006 and have lost 24lbs. I am 13lbs to goal and I think this pill is the best thing on the market. I combine the 2 so that one or the other won’t wear out. It has helped my disposition, my clothes are too big and I have lots of energy. The only side effect I have is a very dry mouth which is fine with me as long as my fat falls off. I plan to stay on it until I go below my goal. This is truly the miracle pill!

Susan

Subj: Tenuate works great
Date: 8/29/2006
I have been taking Tenuate ER 75mg for 6wks now I have lost 12 pounds on this pill. I had an episode of dvt’s in my left calf. No I am not a smoker, and yes I took BCP’s, that I have stopped taking; but I would like to know if tenuate has the potential for causing blood clots. Other than the curiosity it works great for me.

Marty

AskDocWeb: We didn’t find any evidence that it could cause blood clots.

Subj: Lost 30lbs but after?
Date: 9/1/2006
I took Adipex for about 4 months and lost 30lbs. Once I stopped taking it I became extremely fatigued and although I was still exercising I gained almost 10lbs back within a month. It has now been almost 2 months since I stopped using it and am still having extreme fatigue and a hard time getting out of bed in the morning and was never like this before or during using Adipex. What is going on? did this drug do something to me? I have never been so sleepy and had such a hard time getting up for work in the morning.

Kerry

AskDocWeb: It sounds like you got used to the stimulation the drug provided. The fatigue will gradually fade but how long that will take varies with each person. Increasing the amount of exercise will help.

Subj: Adipex story
Date: 9/2/2006
My sister in law was on Adipex for 5 months and lost 50 pounds without any exercise. And she did not become addicted after she stopped. It changed the way she eats and she still looks good. Well she finally gave up her secret and she told me about the medication. I have been on Adipex for 5 days now. I have lost 8 lbs. This medication really works. In those 5 days I have exercised twice, 50 minutes the first day, and 40 minutes the second day. I just had a baby 3 months ago so I exercise when she let’s me or as long as she allows me to. I try to get to an hour but she hasn’t let me get there yet.

As for side effects I have experienced a couple. Dry mouth which is good because it makes me want to drink alot of water. Stomach cramps nothing major, tiredness just a little, insomnia only once and I just laid on my stomach and that seems to help. I fell asleep quick after that. Now the only side effect that I haven’t seen mentioned or maybe I over looked is Diarriah. I don’t know if it is because I am not use to drinking water. Before I never drank water not even a drop, it was always Clear Soda, or Juice. Now I am drinking (4) 16.9 oz. bottles of water a day. And that is exactly what I feel comes out when I have my episodes of diarrhea. Pure water, nothing but water is what comes out. I don’t want to sound gross but I was hoping someone could tell me if they experienced this to and what did there Dr. said about it. I haven’t talked to mines yet so I was hoping someone who has will contact me and let me know what they were told.

All I can say is that I asked my Doctor for this med. and she told me no! for me to eat right, exercise and that will do the trick. HELLO!!!! REALITY CHECK if it was that simple no one would be fat. With all the stress work, school, and kids bring to your life the last thing on anyone’s mind is. “Let me toss up a nice bowl of leaves and vegetables and a drop of Ranch dressing.” And while I am at it go do an hour exercise EVERY day.” No the first thing you reach for is a big piece of chocolate cake and the only exercise you’ll get is lifting the fork up & down and the TV control. As for will power what is that? oh the little imaginary friend that is somewhere in your head that is more lazier, tired, and exhausted then you are. Yeah!!! great help there. It’s like telling a derange psycho you have a little angel sitting on your right shoulder, and a little devil sitting on your left shoulder listen to the angel on your right shoulder. If it was that simple there wouldn’t be Psyc wards, Psychiatrists, and medication for this people. So just like them we to need medication to help us and Doctors to prescribe them and coach us through this. Thank you very much to the creators of Adipex and to the doctors who prescribe them.

Subj: Lost 15 pounds
Date: 9/12/2006
I have been taking adipex for about a month and I have lost about 15 pounds. I love it. My mom and dad say I have been moody but I don’t see it. It doesn’t make me wanna eat at all. It makes my mouth dry sometimes.

Ashley

AskDocWeb: If you drink plenty of water it will help with your dry mouth.

Subj: Blurred vision
Date: 9/19/2006
When I started taking adipex I noticed after 3-4 days I had blurred vision, light headedness, sour stomach and real tired. Has anyone else had this problem?

Subj: From 270 down to 253!
Date: 9/20/2006
I have tried adipex back in June but I stopped, just wasn’t as determined as I am now. I started September 1st, weighing in at 270. Went to the DR. because I had a problem not related to the adipex and I weighed 253 this was on September 14th. I think I am going to like this. However I do my fair share of help for the results that I have seen. I exercise often with an indoor mile walk and I eat very light and healthy or control per say. I will update you again next month.

Tenika

AskDocWeb: You are doing awesome, congratulations!

Subj: Lost almost 30 pounds
Date: 9/23/2006
I have been on Adipex for 4 months and have lost almost 30 pounds. I am very happy with the results but my only complaint is my mood. I want to stop taking it cause my mood is so bad but I feel if I do the weight will come back on fast. Is a side effect severe mood swings? Anyone else have these issues?

Becky

AskDocWeb: The drug company lists agitated states as a side effect, sorry.

Subj: Severe hair loss – yes
Date: 9/24/2006
I took Apidex in May and June and lost 26 lbs during that time. (195 to 169). I stopped in July due to being fed up with waiting for over an hour at most appointments to see my overbooked weight loss MD who also charges a small fortune for a visit. I came off of it fine “initially” cold turkey. I have gained 2 lbs back in 2 months(171) since stopping. Not too bad. I have had to watch it. I am satisfied with much smaller portions.

I’m considering ordering more online and skipping the local doc since I know I do okay on it and I can monitor my BP at home. However, I’m waiting due to the above mentioned problem- HAIR LOSS- in a big way. Clogged shower, tub and my sink. I can see the top of my scalp and I have to be a creative stylist to hid it as best as I can.

The loss began in July and is still ongoing. I saw my regular MD about it last week. I kept thinking it was temporary until my hairdresser urged me to see the Dr. My Dr typed apidex into her “medical-palm pilot” and she said apidex does come up as having a hair loss side effect. Still, she has run hormone and thyroid tests…because I also complain of fatigue by 2-3PM each day regardless of a good night’s rest. The results should be back next week.

I really think it’s from the apidex- either the medication itself or poor nutrition from not enough calories. The Dr. gave me a bad vibe if I went over 1000 cal per day. This made me focused on 5 fruits and veggies and plenty of water, but probably not enough fat, whole grains or protein since I had not much appetite- I like the weight loss but if this is the cost, I don’t know whether to continue or not. I’m going to wait on test results before I decide.

my 2 cents

Subj: Adipex and caffeine?
Date: 9/26/2006
I have been taking Adipex about 1 week, I have some heart palpitation, but I have also been drinking caffeine. I am wondering if I discontinue the caffeine, should the palpitations stop? My doctor is out of town till next week. Thank you,

Carmella

AskDocWeb: Palpitations is listed as an adverse reaction. Please talk with your doctor about this.

Subj: Lost 50 pounds
Date: 9/26/2006
I have been taking adipex for about 4 months and have lost 50 pounds with about 60 to go, I do have really bad mood swings sometimes, but I can’t stop taking them or I gain the weight back very fast. I can’t sleep when I take them, sometimes I crash in the middle of the day from being so tired, but for weight loss they are great, I wonder if my body will get use to them and they won’t work as well as they should. Anyone have this problem?

Brenda

AskDocWeb: That’s one of the reasons Adipex only works for short term only. Eventually it stops working for you after taking it for a period of time.
