Free Ambien?
Date: 11/2/2006
The other day I was half listening to the TV and over heard the announcement about a free offer to try your product Ambien sleeping pills. I couldn’t find a pen fast enough to write down the number to get the free product. I would like to try your pills. Please let me know how to get them.

Ambien dosage
Date: 11/2/2006
I am new to this drug and I will say that I sleep well and do not wake up as much, but I still wake up very early in the morning (4 – 5 am) and then fall back to sleep. I am taking the 5mg tablet and I am 33 years old. Should I be on a higher dosage? Outside of this, I think the product is very good and works well.

Phillip

AskDocWeb: If you are debilitated or have hepatic insufficiency, an initial dose of 5 mg is typical. The dosage may be raised if the 5mg doesn’t do what you want but that’s up to your doctor.

Ambien memory loss
Date: 11/4/2006
I experience some mild eye movements when I use Ambien. It becomes rather difficult to focus my eyes. There are also some interesting lapses of memory. I would write an email to someone, they would respond, but I would not recall the original email to them at all. Odd.

Hate Ambien
Date: 11/8/2006
I just started taking Ambien last night. And last night will be the last night that I take it. Today I feel horrible! Very dizzy. Confused. Extremely hyper. Heart going a mile a minute. Talking a mile a minute. It wasn’t worth the 5 hours of sleep that I got from it. I’ll go back to tossing and turning all night. I hate this stuff.

Ambien breathing problems

Don’t get started on this medication if you have breathing problems, and yes it is addicting.

Ambien withdrawal?
Date: 11/13/2006
I have been taking Ambien every night for about a year now. I want to stop so bad but am scared about what the side effects will be when I stop and how long they will last. I can muscle out not being able to sleep if that is the only problem but I am curious if stopping is going to make me hallucinate or convulse. Please let me know.

Ryan

AskDocWeb: You are more likely to have side effects if you continue taking it. There have been no reports of hallucinations or convulsions when discontinuing Ambien.

SEVERE nausea with Ambien
Date: 11/15/2006
I’ve been on 5 mg of Ambien for the past three weeks. I have a hyperactive thyroid, and I seem to be unable to sleep using natural remedies. The first week was fine. I took Ambien three times, and I was able to sleep through the night. During the second week, I found that the Ambien didn’t work as well, and I woke up several times a night. This week, I found myself taking 7.5 mg because the 5 mg didn’t work anymore, and I am also experiencing SEVERE nausea and anxiety during the daytime hours. In fact, I vomited four times today, and I can only tolerate chicken soup, Ensure and ginger ale. Considering that the ONLY thing I did differently over the past few weeks was take Ambien, I am seriously wondering if the Ambien is causing my severe daytime symptoms. I realize I have to sleep in order to live, but I’m wondering if these side effects are worth the aggravation. I used to be dependent on Ativan six years ago, and it took me over a year to get off the stuff. I’m hoping that, if I have to stop taking the Ambien, I won’t be sick for a whole year.

AskDocWeb: It would be a good idea to talk with your doctor about what Ambien is doing to you.

Ambien usage by elderly
Date: 11/18/2006
I don’t take Ambien, but my mom, 83, does. I visited her for several weeks recently, and noticed she seemed intoxicated after having taken the drug. She swore at me (something she isn’t likely to do), and asked me to pack some of her kitchen gear to give to charity (she changed her mind the next day). Also, during the day, her long-term memory has failed her…for example, she forgot she lived and worked in NYC as a young woman. I’m concerned about this occasional forgetfulness, in particular. She, on the other hand, loves this drug!

Ambiem really works
Date: 11/21/2006
I just started using Ambiem. So far probably took 5 to 6 tablets with absolutely no side effects or problems. Ambiem really works. I take one pill and sleep all night and that’s rare. What scares me is the possibility of dependency. I have read all of the comments but find nothing from the manufacture that quotes studies done on dependency. Like many of your comments about Ambiem being habit forming I believe the manufacture should give us clear info and the subject.

Chuck

AskDocWeb: According to the manufacturer, the following adverse events were reported during U.S. clinical trials following placebo substitution occurring within 48 hours following the last Ambien treatment: fatigue, nausea, flushing, lightheadedness, uncontrolled crying, emesis, stomach cramps, panic attack, nervousness, and abdominal discomfort. The manufacturer reports that these adverse events occurred in less than 1% of users.

Horrible metallic taste
Date: 11/26/2006
I took lunesta for the first time last night. I have the worst insomnia ever I was willing to try anything so my Dr. told me this was not addicting. Anyway to make a long story short, it was the worst experience I have ever had with any medication. I have a horrible, horrible taste in my mouth, I woke up so nauseated I thought I was pregnant. Never again will I take that stuff. I would rather stay awake all night with a migraine that to deal with that! What do I do? How can I get rid of that metal, mediciney, nasty taste in my mouth? I can’t even drink water it’s so bad!

Lyn

AskDocWeb: It seems that more than a few medications affect the sense of taste, here’s a list. You could try rinsing your mouth with a spoonful of baking soda in a glass water.

Ambien is horrible
Date: 11/26/2006
This drug is horrible… made me hallucinate, say things I don’t remember, had candles in my room flying around me, kept calling my boyfriend at 3 in the morning and not remembering it, kept seeing people on my laptop that were “flipping me off” and I wanted to fight them… this stuff is some TRIPPY a** crap and needs to be taken off the market.

Long-term side effects of Stilnox
Date: 11/26/2006
I’ve insomnia since younger days. I do not mind not getting enough sleep or no sleep at all but the next day I’ll get severe migraine. Since taking Stilnox 10mg, I can have good sleep – 6 hours and lesser migraine attack. I’ve been taking Stilnox for nearly 2 years. I’m worried of the long term side effect. For time being I do not have any but I think I’m addicted to it as I need to take 1 before I sleep else I won’t be able to sleep. Any bad long term effect on this? Thanks,

Nancy

AskDocWeb: Like Ambien, Stilnox is one of the trade names of zolpidem. It’s also sold under the names Stilnoct®, Hypnogen®, Zolfresh®, and Myslee®. The drug companies, in this case Sanofi-aventis, consider long-term use to be 24 weeks. The safety of long-term use of Stilnox beyond 6 months is yet to be established. Clinical trials are needed to establish the long-term side effects of Stilnox beyond 6 months. Others have reported long-term effects of tension headaches and migraines.

Ambien causing a serious problem
Date: 11/27/2006
Though my husband has taken 10mg Ambien in the past with no side affects, we believe it is causing a serious problem now. Last week he took a 5mg Ambien tablet, then another 5mg Ambien tablet last night. He awoke during the night on the floor, terrified. He had completely stripped his bed, trashed his room, had no memory of what happened and couldn’t find the door. My husband is a 74 year old diabetic who takes only his two tablets for diabetes and has no vices. He has never had anything remotely this happen before.

Scary side effect
Date: 11/27/2006
I took ambien one night and stood up to watch TV, next thing I remember is everything was blurry, my husband’s face looked like turkey skin and I felt like someone else was in the room with us. I started crying when my husband was talking to me because he looked so scary, his face was all distorted. it was so scary, I will NEVER take that again!!! I can’t imagine being alone with those side effects, something awful could happen!!
