Ambien accident
Date: 1/23/2007
My husband was in a serious accident Jan. 2 07 at 4:30 in the morning going to work. He had a prescription for ambien, which he had not taken for a while because the last time he took it he did things he did not remember doing, like running a tub of water and getting in it, going to sleep, then getting out of the tub, opening up a can of fruit, eating it and then going to bed. He did not remember doing that at all. He hadn’t taken it for several months ‘except the night before the accident he had taken one. I didn’t know it and then the accident. He hit a Transfer truck an 80’000 pound trailer in the side. Failed to yield to the red light at 50 miles an hour. He has traveled that highway for 36 years and has stopped at that same light for 36 years. He says he hasn’t a clue why he hit that truck. He is so lucky. He took fourteen stitches to the left arm, and a severe injury to the right hand. He now has a rod through it and a cast. He was cut about his face and head. I am convinced Ambien played a major role in this accident.

Short-term memory loss and stomach pains
Date: 1/25/2007
I recently started taking Ambien. It didn’t work initially. After about the 3rd or 4th dose it began to take affect, however, I’m noticing short term memory loss and bad stomach pains. I know the memory loss is a side affect, what about the stomach pains. I’m also taking hormone pills, could that be the cause of the stomach pains? Thank you,
Wanda
AskDocWeb: About 2% of Ambien users experience abdominal pain. The hormone pills wouldn’t cause your stomach pains but other drugs are known to do that. Here’s the most frequent offenders;

Ambien memory loss
Date: 1/29/2007
I advise people to avoid the use of ambien. I have had memory loss the following day. I have also taken the med went up to bed but am told that I hung out for hours afterward – with not memory of what I did. I have also taken the medicine and did not feel sleepy at all. I would avoid this medication.

Ambien caution
Date: 2/4/2007
Do not, I repeat, do not take this unless you are laying in bed and ready for sleep. Too many stories and weird phone calls and e-mails to friends and strangers alike to post on here. This is not a recreational drug by any means.

Can’t sleep more than an hour or two at a time
Date: 2/6/2007
I had take ambien for 10 years, at one point I was taking it for relaxation not to sleep, up to 4 10mg a day. It was not putting me to sleep just stop me from feeling of withrawls. 3 month ago decided to taper off and I have successfully done it, but you can not stop using it without tapering off, withrawals are horrible. Today is my 5 day without it, the only problem, I barly sleep 1-2 hours from time to time. I guess I lost the ability to fall sleep. Does anybody knows if I will be able to sleep again more than 1-2 after staying awake and trying for 24 hour at a time. By the way no memory problems after stopping it.

Feel happier without Ambien
Date: 2/10/2007
I have taken Ambien on and off for the last 3 years, started taking it on vacation, because I found it difficult to fall asleep, when you haven’t taken it for a few weeks the first night it really knocks you out, but the effects decrease each consecutive night. The CR helped me sleep through the night, but I found my tolerance level for stress, friends, work and family, decreased and in general started having very negative feelings and some depression. (I have never had any problems with depression in my life) It was very difficult to stop taking it, with a strong fear of not being able to fall asleep. But, I finally stopped taking it and feel much happier and actually get a deeper better nights sleep (as long as I don’t have any sugar or alcohol before bed, gives me a better night sleep) It took being off it for at least 2 weeks, before I got a great night sleep. It was very tempting to go back on it during this time, but I’m glad I didn’t. I too had conversations after taking it that I barely remember. I suggest Yoga and better nutrition, this is very addictive.

Ambien DUI
Date: 2/13/2007
Ambien – for me, a night shift worker, it has been great for most of the time/a few weird episodes, i.e.: sex and not remembering or talking strange. But my husband has recently been charged with a DUI having NO RECALL of ever walking out the door, getting into a vehicle and driving many miles before being stopped and arrested. This is a 2nd offense – the first was ambien related also but at that time in 2003 there wasn’t the knowledge of the adverse side effects, if there was it wasn’t as wide spread as it is now. I am hoping to fight this most recent DUI and win just for the fact that I believe him when he says he has no recall of anything that happened that night. In my opinion why would a D.A. prosecute with stories like I have just read regarding the adverse side effects of this sleep aid? My husband is 51 years old and up until 2003 has never had a DUI or anything related to that. Now that we know of the adverse effects he will never take this drug again. I am even paranoid about taking it on the days I work.

Ambien car wreck
Date: 2/14/2007
In Dec.2005 I had a really bad car wreck due to taking Ambien. I took it 3 hrs earlier than I usually do because we were leaving Florida to come home to Texas and I blacked out at the wheel and wrapped the car around a telephone pole, totaling it. I feel your product is responsible for what happened to us.

AskDocWeb: We sincerely hope that you leaned that taking a sleeping pill and then driving was a serious mistake. Anyone who operates machinery while under the influence of a sleeping pill puts their life at risk, and the lives of anyone around them. You should note that Ambien is made by Sanofi-Sythelabo, that’s a drug company. We do not make or sell any of the products talked about here, this website is for consumer product reviews.
Love that fresh feeling in the morning but…
Date: 2/15/2007
Where do I start… I love ambien and hate it at the same time. I love the fresh feeling I have in the mornings, but there’s been a few recent experiences that scared me. One night, I took an ambien but forgot I had taken it so I had a couple of drinks. That is all I remember. The next day I woke up and the passenger side mirror of my truck was smashed, there was a whole chicken that had been eaten on the table, Doritos chips scattered all over the carpet, an empty bottle of Baileys liquor, and my keys were missing. I don’t remember any of this, but my girlfriend told me it happened. I even went for a run in only my boxer shorts and lost my keys somewhere on the sidewalk. I was running to 7/11 to get some more alcohol. I never found them. I’m actually on ambien right now so I think I should go to bed. Does this even make sense? I don’t know my mind is starting to get a little loopy.

Sleep walking
Date: 2/16/2007
I only started taking Ambien a month ago. I suffer horribly from insomnia and have been on many medications to help me sleep (including Lunesta and Seroquel this past year). Ambien has worked better than any other medication to help me sleep. The Problem? A few days after starting Ambien I started sleep walking – not just sleep walking but sleep eating as well. At the same time I started ambien I started a diet to lose the weight I recently gained due to my new medications. At first, I couldn’t figure out why 1500 calories a day and an hour of exercise was making me GAIN weight. Then I started waking up with food in my bed and not knowing how it got there. One night my mother found me in the kitchen heating up Chinese food. I even held a short conversation with her. I didn’t remember a thing. I have been able to “trick” myself by cutting up fresh fruit or vegetables before I go to bed and leaving them on the counter. I almost always end up eating my healthy snack at night. I go back to see my doctor next week and I am going off ambien. This is one scary drug. I don’t want to do crazy things that I can’t even remember.
