Subj: NO improvement
Date: 5/24/2004
I used a four month cycle of Avacor. There was absolutely NO improvement in my hair. I conclude that the best thing that Avacor has going for it is the money back guarantee. “I will certainly be getting my money back.”
Leon
AskDocWeb: If you have any luck with that be sure to let us know it goes.
Subj: Obvious scam
Date: 5/19/2004
How is it that this obvious scam is still allowed to be advertised on TV and radio. They boldly lie about the product, the people involved with it are criminals. Doesn’t the FTC or FDA have any actions pending against Global Vision?
Dave
AskDocWeb: We caution others reading this to avoid extremist thinking. Just because the company was started by someone with a criminal record does not mean that everyone currently involved is a criminal. We have heard that Dr. Gordon is no longer with the company.
They have changed their advertising and labeling (how many times now?) to comply with current regulations. As long as they comply with current laws and regulations they can continue to do business.
Subj: NO results
Date: 5/30/2004
I could see NO results after 12 months of use on my typical male pattern baldness. It’s worthless and expensive way to buy Minoxidil. They refused to refund my money.

Subj: 18 months
Date: 6/18/2004
Lots of great comments… I’ve used Avacor for ~18 months and had limited benefit. The rate of loss for seems to have slowed with some thickening of very fine hairs. Further, during a lapse in my use, I noticed an increase in hair loss. I attribute this effect to minoxidil which I have also tried and saw similar results. Another factor to consider is that the solution is oil based which seems to give fine hairs a more substantial appearance in addition to the regrowth. This is a psychological effect but contributes to the overall percieved benefit.

Subj: Used Avacor
Date: 6/28/2004
I used Avacor and it worked better than Minoxidil which I used in the past.
Scott
AskDocWeb: That’s funny since the active ingredient in Avacor seems to be Minoxidil.
Subj: Severe scalp reaction
Date: 7/6/2004
Developed a severe scalp reaction (chemical burn). Inflamed scalp, oozing and itch.

Subj: Saved $500
Date: 7/18/2004
Thanks for your site! I feel I just saved $500 for the first year alone.
Joe
Subj: Please advise
Date: 7/24/2004
I had stints last march put in and now take plavix, aspirin a beta blocker and nitro along with lisinproil. Is it safe to take avacor pills with monixil? Please advise. Thank you,
Dana
AskDocWeb: We recommend you pick something other than Avacor for hair loss. Take a look at our list of hair loss products. Since you seem to be under a doctor’s care, talk to them about your concern with hair loss. Your doctor would be the best person to ask to find out what is safe for you.
Subj: Thymuskin Shampoo
Date: 8/21/2004
How much information do you have on Thymuskin Shampoo? Anything as detailed as the above Avacor review? Please let me know because it seems like a lot of people are buying into the ‘hype’ about it being on ABC, NBC news, ecetera. Thanks kindly,
Mandeep.
AskDocWeb: We haven’t taken a close look at Thymuskin shampoo, maybe next year. Right now, we are putting up a page so users can complain or brag about Thymuskin.
Subj: Mistaken perception
Date: 9/10/2004
I am a post-menopausal woman who has been using Avacor for about two years. The rate of hair loss diminished considerably. However, during this time, I was hospitalized for severe back surgery and was not able to take Avacor for six months. After the first month, my hair loss increased until I thought I would have to buy a wig. I was able to resume taking Avacor after six months, and again, my hair loss decreased.
My question, after having read your report, is: You recommend another product that only contains herbs. I have been using Avacor with the mistaken perception that it was free of Minoxidil. Would there be any side effects if I stopped Avacor and started taking the product you recommend?
Jeanne
AskDocWeb: It sounds like you have been getting results using Minoxidil (in the Avacor). Wouldn’t it cost a lot less to just get Minoxidil from your local pharmacy?
Subj: Avacor and perms
Date: 9/22/2004
I used avacor and it took my hair out. I asked when I decided to buy this product what I thought were important questions. I asked if the shampoo and the cream would cause any problems for me because I perm my hair. I am a black woman and I perm my hair once a month. I was told that this should not be a problem and it was. It took my hair out. I brought this because the women in our family go bold just like the men in our family. In the spot where I used this product my hair is not as full as it was. My scalp itches all the time now. It has been over a year and I am still suffering from the problems. My hair now grows in thinner I use to have thick hair but not any more. I called them and told them what happened and they assured me that they would inform black women or men who perm there hair that they should not use the shampoo and the cream but to date they do not.

Subj: Second choice to Propecia
Date: 10/13/2004
I still maintain a full head of hair and used avacor for a receding hairline over seven or eight months. Customer service said it grows hair in the receding area. I believe that to be a lie among others. I am amazed they are able to find so many deceptive people to peddle their product. Is Rogain more effective? What is your second choice to Propecia?
Jack
AskDocWeb: Our second choice to Propecia is topical minoxidil, available at your local drugstore. Third place would be Procerin.
Subj: Buy Avacor
Date: 11/18/2004
I want to Buy Avacor, the ones that is for 3 month. But I want to pay with money or by check. Do you have any company that makes the distribution in Panama. please I need your answer as soon is possible. bye
Juan
AskDocWeb: Sorry Juan, no. We recommend you try your local pharmacy for Minoxidil. It is a lot less expensive and seems to be the active ingredient in Avacor.
Subj: FDA approval
Date: 11/30/2004
I have seen the TV ads for Avacor and wondered how they could obtain FDA approval. Is Avacor actually FDA approved? I used Rogaine in a topical application on my scalp in the early 90’s for a couple of months. During that time, I developed cysts of some sort on my scalp and even one under the gum below my teeth. Needless to say, I discontinued using the product. And No! I did not grow any hair on my head. Just cysts!!
Mark
AskDocWeb: If I remember correctly, the FDA threatened to close them down unless they changed their advertising to make it legal. In general, they presented their new ads to the FDA and when the FDA said their current advertisement was legal, the company claimed FDA approval without saying what was approved. It was the advertisement, not the product.
Subj: Avacor is not worth
Date: 12/15/2004
I used it for one year and later I got sevior itching in the scalp and there were few hairs grown which gone away..I think it’s not worth for its cost. I tried reaching customer service but I have to keep waiting?and I was not able to reach them…its gone…the time…the money…not recommended by me atleast.

Subj: Avacor is trash
Date: 12/28/2004
I used Avacor and it didn’t work at all, the sticky crap they say to rub into your hair just made my hair fall out quicker, and on top of that when you read the information that they send along with it, it looks like a fifth grader wrote it. There were words spelled wrong! I couldn’t believe it. This product is trash and it’s amazing that these goons are getting away with selling it. Stay away from Avacor.

Subj: Side effects of Avacor
Date: 12/31/2004
Taking the pill that comes in the Avacor kit, started to make my feet dry up and crack, I know this, because when I stopped taking the pill, my feet healed. I was taking the pills for about 6 months, and the problem started shortly after, I had the foot problem for all the time I was using the pill, once I stopped the pill, the feet got better.

Subj: Avacor and Hair Gensis
Date: 1/1/2005

Subj: Problem with refund from Avacor
Date: 1/12/2005
I did not take Avacor. I ordered it but discovered this site (and several others that I overlooked in my desperation to get my hair back) and decided to cancel my order immediately. The problem is that they will not credit their charges back to my credit card. When I called, I was told that they would mail me a check “because it’s easier for them”. It’s now been over a month and I have yet to receive anything back.

Subj: Avacor in PA
Date: 1/13/2005
I have been hearing a radio ad for Avacor here in PA and decided to research before calling in my order. After reading nothing positive, thanks in part to your piece, I do not plan to buy any. I have a healthy head of hair except for a hole growing larger and larger on the top of my head and would love to hear of any safe and reliable products that if not grow new hair may at least slow this hair loss.
Mark
AskDocWeb: Sorry Mark, we know of nothing on the market that is both safe and reliable. The number one product (Propecia) is a prescription drug that comes with possible sexual side effects. The herbal alternatives (like Procerin) and multi-vitamins (like Advecia) do work for some but, not everyone.
Subj: Avacor
Date: 1/25/2005
I used avacor for a year and it worked perfectly – until I read your site which scared me with all these other comments – I had growth in the front of my scalp, and everywhere else for that matter – some minor irritation – but that’s normal given that you are constantly applying the topical solution
Confused
Subj: Best product for hair loss
Date: 2/22/2005
What is the best product you suggest? I want a product that when you stop using it, your hair won’t fall out. Procerin or Advecia? How about Hair Genesis? This is such a helpful site, not biased on any product, and really does show people the info needed. Thank you.
Steven
AskDocWeb: Unfortunately, what you want does not yet exist. If you stop using any hair loss product you will start losing hair again.
Answer update 5/25/07: HairGenesis is not recommended.
Subj: Anything better?
Date: 5/18/2005
It’s ok. – not the best – Is there anything better where you see faster results.. I’m impatient.. ha,
Mike
AskDocWeb: There is prescription Propecia (not recommended because of sexual side effects), Procerin, and Advecia. Read more Avacor Feedback.
