Subj: Feedback for Avacor
Date: 1/5/2006
I am a 22 year old female with aleopecia areata. I have had it for over 12 years and have tried several different treatments to no avail. My mother is buying this product for me to try which she said is costing her 400$!!! I am really worried about trying it but I feel obligated because of her generosity. Can anyone please give me any feedback that I can use in my defense?
Ellen
AskDocWeb:We suggest you print out the Report on Avacor. Give this to your mother and ask for her opinion of it. If you can get her to read some of the feedback about this product she may change her mind.
Subj: Minoxidil
Date: 1/17/2006
I’ve been using Avacor products for a year that ended on October. Since there are still shampoo and Extra Strength Minoxidil Topical left, I decided to continue using it. Is it OK? Thanks.
Walter
AskDocWeb: Yes, it should be okay to use the Minoxidil.
Subj: Acyclovir and period
Date: 1/18/2006
I just found out I had herpes a few weeks ago. I was prescribed Acyclovir. I started my period and my blood is almost black. What’s up with that?
Need to know
AskDocWeb: We found nothing to indicate that Acyclovir would cause that symptom. You may want to have your doctor check things out.
Subj: Active ingredient in Avacor

I have used avacor for 1 full year now. I have noticed some (very little) new hair growth, but this has taken 1 year. Avacor is very expensive. What is the chemical difference in Avacor and Rogaine? I am going with the less expensive. Also, when trying to re-order, Avacor says the Nutri-cap is the key to stopping the hairloss. Is this fact or fiction? I thought the key was the monoxidil…
Damon
AskDocWeb: It is possible that they are selling minoxidil under another name – again.
Subj: Sincere thanks

I just want to express my appreciation for the valuable service you provide to all Americans by performing the challenging research you conduct to expose these scam artists and con men. My sincere thanks to you!

I have noticed that my hair has stated falling out again. After ordering again I found this site. I am now concerned about the potential health problems that may occur. Should I stop using this product?

Subj: Class action lawsuit
Date: 2/23/2006

Subj: Used Avacor for 3 years
Date: 3/19/2006
I have used Avacor for about three years. I use to have a bald spot about 2″ across. That almost completely filled in with the first 6 months treatment. I also has some hair regrowth near the forehead. I believe the minoxidil works for me but I can’t say that for sure about the Nutri-caps that are part of the treatment. If I stop the Minoxidil and only take one pill a day as recommended then I lose hair again. I am about to stop the Minoxidil again and take two nutri-caps a day as I have during the hair growth stage to see if I can keep this batch of hair. You say that Saw palmetto is the ingredient that may keep hair from falling out? Should I be try that instead?
Bret
AskDocWeb: As far as we know, Avacor does not contain saw palmetto. The product we recommend, which does contain saw palmetto, is Procerin.
Subj: To whom it may concern
Date: 3/23/2006
I used Avacor over three years ago (March 2003) and the product did restore some lost hair all within a month of use. However, with continued use I noticed my heart rate increased while at rest. Furthermore, I was on Tegretol (200mg)for epilepsy. I ended up having a grand mal seizure and stopped using Avacor immediately. I had more than a suspicion it was the Avacor since I had precursor complex partial seizures that progressively became more pronounced the days before my grand mal seizure. Today, it’s been three years since the epileptic episode and I’m still seizure free and Avacor free. Sincerely,
Craig
Subj: Recommendation?
Date: 4/8/2006
Thanks for your article, I was about to purchase Avacor and luckily I saw your site, I am not going to buy this product but can you recommend something that will help me get my hair back?
Larry
AskDocWeb: We recommend Procerin for hair loss. It seems to work in about 7 out of 10 men.

Hi I saw the commercial for Avacor and was about to buy it, I had told my uncle about it and he said that the commercial is false and that stuff doesn’t work. He said the only two that work are propecia and rogaine. So I decided to do some research and I have decided that avacor does seem to be a rip off, and I thank you for saving me money. I currently use rogaine and I have not grown any hair but I haven’t lost any either. I’m currently in pursuit of obtaining propecia thank you.

Subj: Cancelled payment
Date: 4/24/2006
Oh my GOD!!! I almost got scammed with AVACOR. Hey, I even ordered the thing, but UPS kept messing up the delivery so I grew tired of waiting and REFUSED DELIVERY. They said that they would refund my money within 30 BUSINESS days. I called the credit card and they cancelled the payment so I got it back immediately. Needless to say, the customer service representative was less that useful when it came to taking my request for a refund!!!

Subj: Avacor topical serum
Date: 4/27/2006
I would like to know the ingredients in Avacor topical serum. May I have a list of the ACTIVE ingredients as well as the inactive ingredients. Thank you.

Subj: Avacor scared ‘M
Date: 5/8/2006
I started using Avacor as directed. I did not receive the scalp detoxifier but did receive a dandruff shampoo along with a conditioner and ANOTHER shampoo. Using the product as directed I woke up one morning with a moderate case of dizziness. This was in less than 14 days. I discontinued use of the product and requested a refund. Scared the Hell out of me too! I am a very healthy person.

Subj: Fair sensitive skin
Date: 6/13/2006
If you have fair sensitive skin, I would be VERY wary of anything containing minoxidil. I definitely experienced a rapid heartbeat, dizziness, and palpitations from this stuff, and am worried about the long-term consequences. Despite all the negatives, I do think it helped temporarily grow/maintain my crown hair. Certainly not worth heart problems!

I have read your article about Avacor and it is impressive. I believe now, that there is hope and that not many people can get fooled by such products.
I see that your site is serious and unbiased, and that is very hard to do, since most so called customer’s reviews sites are made by the same companies that sell a product. Thank you.
Rudy
Subj: 5 years of Avacor
Date: 7/9/2006
I have been using Avacor for about 5 years with no side affects. Hair regrowth has been very little. I continue to use it because it stopped the rapid loss I was experiencing. I have about the same amount of hair now that I did when I started maybe a little more.
Joe
AskDocWeb: Compare the price of Minoxidil (the active ingredient in Avacor) to the price of Avacor. You are paying through the nose for hair.
Subj: I WEANED MYSELF OFF MINOXIDYL
Date: 8/28/2006
I am a 59 year old woman, and have experience with minoxidyl. About 10 years ago, during perimenopaus, I started losing hair. It was partially due to hormone levels going down fast, similar to what happens after childbirth. (I remember having a lot of hair loss after my first child, but that stopped after a few months, and hair growth returned.) In my late 40’s, I remember the hair loss started dramatically, and continued until I started on minoxidyl. That stopped the loss, and regrowth was good. A few years later, I studied Ayurveda, the ancient medicine of India. I learned that hair loss is a sign of elevated Pitta. In Ayurveda, the approach is similar to Chinese medicine, and qualities, rather than chemical composition describes the imbalance. I started taking the appropriate herbs, altered my diet to reduce the foods that aggravate Pitta, and worked to adopt a mental attitude that allows Pitta to balance. I found a variety of my “aches and ills” disappeared. Pulse diagnosis affirmed that my Vata, Pitta, Kapha qualities were more in balance.
The thing I want to let other women know: Since my hair loss is due to hormone drop, and Pitta imbalance, once hormones were stable, and I was taking a phytoestrogen (Shatavari), I was able to very gradually wean myself of Minoxidyl. The dosage is 6 squirts twice a day. I first went to 5, and did that for months. Then I went to 4, continued for months. I then went to 6 once a day, again for months. I gradually weaned off the stuff completely. As long as I continue on the phytoestrogen, and keep myself in balance, (I need to avoid spending time in the hot sun, a sure Pitta aggravator), I can maintain good hair growth without minoxidyl. I watch the amount of hair in the tub when I shampoo, and if it increases, I use a couple of squirts for a while, and pay closer attention to balancing my physiology. Ayurveda is a holistic approach, not just “get rid of a certain symptom” approach. Not everyone would be willing to make the changes necessary. I find it’s worth it, because hair loss is minor compared to the serious illnesses that can result from years and decades of imbalance.
