Subj: Heart problem?
Date: 11/8/2007
I had used Bontril a few years ago and did loose the weight I wanted. However, along with exercise and the right eating habits. Now after a few years I started taking them again and this time I have been on them for about 2 months. I have lost weight, yes, I am exercising and eating right, but nevertheless, I do get the tingle on my left hand and today for the first time I felt my heart really going fast after 2 hours of walking about 7 miles. Should I stop, I don’t loose sleep; I do drink lots of water, but also wanted to know how about when you have cocktails before dinner? Is it ok to have alcohol with this pill? I have always been happy with the results, however, this time I am a bit concerned. I do have lots of energy though. Thanks IG.

Ileana

AskDocWeb: The tingling should be reported to your doctor. Alcohol can increase the possibility of experiencing side effects with Bontril.

Subj: Bontril is working
Date: 11/9/2007
I started Bontril on 11/1/07–today is my 9th day…I have lost ten pounds. The only side effect I had was a slight dull headache for the first few days. I popped some aspiring and it subsided. I am following low carb diet-not eliminating all carbs, just the high GI ones. I also eat 5 to six small meals a day. I try to get in at least 30 minutes of exercise daily…you have to exercise too…not just pop the pill and wait for it to help you lose weight…its just a tool…not a miracle. You do have to change your eating habits to healthier ones, or you will just gain it all back after you stop the pills. Hope this helps…

Subj: Great results
Date: 11/9/2007
I have taken bontril numerous years ago with great results, my question is how do I find a doctor who will subscribe it to me again – I need to lose 70 lbs. – have started exercising and eating healthy but nothing is working – can you recommend a doctor in the Lexington SC area who can help me?

Gayle

AskDocWeb: Sorry Gayle, specific referrals are beyond our ability. This website deals with side effects.

Subj: How long can you use Bontril?
Date: 11/17/2007
I took Bontril for 30 days with good results and no side effects…no problems at all. I have been off of it for a couple of months and have put back some of the weight I lost, even though I have tried to watch my diet. My question is, how long can you stay on Bontril safely?

Katia

AskDocWeb: Three months is the norm.

Subj: This medication is awesome!
Date: 11/19/2007
I started taking Bontril about six days ago. I haven’t gone in to be weighed yet, but I already notice a difference in my clothing and my face looks thinner. People I know have already asked me if I am doing something different. I do not experience any side-effects. I am not hungry, and I do eat around six small meals a day. I walk for exercise, and I do some aerobic workouts. This medication is awesome!

Subj: Is it possible?
Date: 11/25/2007
I was taking adipex last year for about 4 months, about this same time last year. The adipex didn’t work that well because I had been on the adipex before and I was not losing that much weight. I have not taken the adipex in about a year. Now I am trying the Bontril. I have been taking it for about 5 days. I am worried because I am not feeling any decrease in appetite at all and have not lost any weight. Is it possible the Bontril will not work even though my dosage has been doubled?

Paige

AskDocWeb: Yes, it is possible because over time people build up a tolerance to this drug and it stops working.

Subj: Cold sores in my tongue
Date: 11/28/2007
My husband and I have been taking Bontril for the last three weeks, it’s great we have lost a lot of weight. But I have been getting lots of cold sores in my tongue, and my husband has been getting those too. Is this because of Bontril?

Coral

AskDocWeb: No, cold sores don’t have any connection to Bontril.

Subj: Lost 42lbs!
Date: 12/2/2007
I took Bontril and lost 42lbs! I was skeptical because I am now 43. I had taken Bontril before when I was about 25 and lost the weight then too. (I worked for a doctor at that time) I thought I would give it a try this time and it worked again from the moment I started taking it. I took it for four months. The only side effect I had was dry mouth but that was okay because I need to drink more water than I normally do. I saw my doctor every month and he monitored my weight loss. I totally recommend this product. Worked at age 25 and at 43!

Subj: Lost 94lbs
Date: 12/25/2007
I went to a weight doctor a year ago January. I have lost 94lbs. I went from a size 20 to a size 8 which is to big on me. However I am now getting very grumpy and can’t seem to tolerate near as much. I am not sure if it is the diet pill or something else.

Angie

Subj: Ear pain?

Subj: Problem with thrush, mouth sores and tingling
Date: 2/2/2008
I took bontril for almost a year and it worked great. I went from 198 to 158 in 4 months. I stopped taking it because I started having a major problem with thrush, mouth sores and tingling inside the mouth even though I always drank water. I miss the bontril have, have shot back up to 180. Any suggestions to how to combat my problem while taking bontril? Thanks,

Dahnsyre

AskDocWeb: Sometimes the body develops a resistance to a weight loss drug and then it is time for alternative, talk to your doctor. And be sure to report these side effects to your doctor.

Subj: Losing weight and still eating
Date: 2/5/2008
I have been taking Bontril for one week! So far the only complaints I have about the medication is I’ve been a little restless at night, but that seems to be getting better and some ponding in the chest, which seems to be subsiding. I know I will continue to take the medication due to the fact that I have already lost 10 pounds in 7 days! And the good part is that I’m still eating! I am maintaining a daily calorie intake of around 1200 and fat grams around 20 / 25. I have increased my water consumption to at least 60ozs a day as well.

Pattie

Subj: Heart palpitations
Date: 2/14/2008
I am thinking of trying Bontril, however I take Wellbutrin XL and Prozac. Will there be any interactions with these drugs? Also, I tend to have an occasional problem with palpitations, will this be a problem for me?

RG

AskDocWeb: The use of this Bontril is not recommended if you have a history of heart conditions, high blood pressure, or heart disease.

Subj: Long term side effects?
Date: 2/20/2008
I took Bontril about a year ago for one year. I was very pleased with the 22lb weight loss, for fear of getting addicted I stopped taking them. I slowed down how many I was taking a week instead of taking one everyone morning I did it every other morning, until I gave it up completely. I know I have gained weight back I can see and feel it, no where near where I use to be before the bontril, but still some noticeable to me. I still have an entire bottle full, my question is will this pill have any long term effects on my body? I never had any issues with taking this I had the normal side effects but nothing unusual. I even went and got blood work down on my thyroid and iron and stuff cause I found myself more tired. But I would really like to get a head start on losing that weight again, but are there any long term side effects that I need to worry about? I am 20 years old and plan on getting married and having a family of my own, I wouldn’t want to do anything to jeopardize my pregnancy or my family. Thank you so much.

Danielle

AskDocWeb: Although there are no long-term side effects listed, the directions indicate that Bontril is not for use if you are pregnant or trying to becoming pregnant. It is unknown if Bontril is excreted in breast milk. It should also be noted that Bontril is for short-term management of obesity.

Subj: Today I start bontril
Date: 2/25/2008
I use many off plant diet pill but they not work. Today I start bontril, wish it is work and tell you the result after at list 2 weeks …wish me luck.

Nana

AskDocWeb: Good luck Nana. When you tell your results, make sure to tell the weight you had when you started and your ideal goal weight. That one way you can measure your progress.

Subj: Anxiety, papulations and tremors
Date: 2/25/2008
I began using bontril in May of 07 and by Aug I had lost 45 lbs, after stopping the med. I began experiencing anxiety, papulations and tremors. My doc ran some test and said I have borderline hyperthyrodism/ graves disease, I have been on anti-anxiety pills and blood pressure med. since. I really think something else is wrong because I still have chest pain but I hate to be a hypercondriac.

Subj: Insomnia
Date: 2/28/2008
This last summer and fall, I took Bontril for 3 months and lost about 15 lbs. I was pleased with the result because I don’t lose weight easily now after so much dieting all my life. When I quit taking it, I was able to sleep better but did not experience any depression or desire for the drug and was able to keep my weight down for about 3 months. As usual, my appetite got stronger and stronger and I decided to take Bontril again before things got out of hand for about 2 or 3 weeks to lose a few pounds that came on all at one. My biggest complaint is the sore mouth I have. My tongue feels tender on the tip, possibly from a dry mouth or is this something else? I have very sensitive skin and this may have something to do with this side effect. Last time, my dry mouth eased up after about a week and so did most of the insomnia though sleeping remained more shallow on the drug. I’ll be glad when my weight is down so that I can go back to sleeping normally and won’t have to worry about this mouth problem!

Subj: Zanex
Date: 3/22/2008
I have been on bontril for 4 days and haven’t slept very much, but not hungry so that’s good. Is it ok to take an occasional zanex with bontril.

Michelle

AskDocWeb: It should be but you will have to get a script from your physician.

Subj: This stuff works!
Date: 3/30/2008
I have taken the wonderful Bontril for about a year on and off, and let me tell you, this stuff works! I feel like I am just shedding the unwanted pounds every time I take one! Varying on the day, I take between 3-7 pills, and feel no major side effects…But, for me, there is one downfall: It makes me want to eat chocolatey snacks very late at night. That NEVER happened before. Read more feedback about Bontril.
