Subj: From Adipex to Bontril
Date: 5/6/2008
For two weeks I was taking adipex, I still felt hungry but used alot of will power, I went to the doc today and lost 8 pounds, I told him about feeling hungry he put me on bontril, I hope it works for me, I don’t know if one is better then the other, time will tell.

Subj: The weight loss is great, however
Date: 6/5/2008
I’ve been taking bontril for 45 days now. I started out at 80lbs and now I’m at 63lbs. 17lbs in 45 days is good, I hope. I went from a size 16/18 in pants to a size 12/14. The weight loss is great, however I’ve suffered from severe headache’s, mood swings, stomach cramps, tiredness (yet I get enough sleep)and something that’s great (for me) a heightened sex drive. The bad symptoms come and go. I never suffer from them for more then a day or 2. The new sex drive haven’t left yet (wow!).

My doctor had placed me on this pill because I was 5’4 at 80lbs, which he says was obese and had developed high blood pressure and high cholestoral due to my weight. Bontril is not suppose to be safe if you have high-blood pressure… but my doctor had placed me on it anyways. I’m also on high blood pressure medicine. So far, so good, my blood pressure hadn’t worsened and my cholestoral looks good now. I have 15 more days left to take the Bontril and then I’m finished. The doctor didn’t want me to use it long term due to my blood pressure.

I hope I will not gain my weight back after the pill, because I seem to be depending on it a lot… but I have learned to eat healthier which is a good thing… I never began an exercise regiment though… I believe if I had started one though I would have probably lost more then 17lbs because the pill by itself really works!!! If I had to do it all over again, I would!!!

Subj: Bontril pill
Date: 6/11/2008
I started taking Bontril about four days ago and it sounds like a miracle drug in the beginning according to all the feedback, but one thing I noticed is that almost everyone gained back a significant amount of weight after stopping the drug. I wonder if this is from poor eating habits or if this is like any other diet where losing significant amounts of weight too quickly will set you up for eventually gaining a lot of it back? Already I have lost four pounds in three days and my appetite is pretty poor. I feel hunger pangs but I don’t have the desire to eat. Its like my body is screaming EAT! but my brain says I really don’t need to. weird. Insomnia is a real problem with me as well. I cannot sleep more than 4 or 5 hours at night. I have also had problems with hair loss ALREADY, as well as dull headaches, and no the headaches are not from caffeine withdrawals as I am still drinking the same amount of caffeine I was before the Bontril. Hmmmm….

The fact that this drug can cause a dependence should worry a lot of people because it could become a gateway for other drug addictions for people who are desperate after developing a tolerance to Bontril. Some friends say it is nothing more than a prescribed form of meth since the side effects are a lot alike. I would make sure to tell anyone to really pay attention to what their body is telling them, no matter what they say is not listed as a normal reaction. They still don’t know everything… As for me I am going to continue this in hopes my story will be a positive one, and hope I don’t sleep for a year after I stop taking the drug. Good luck to you all.

Subj: Is this a withdrawal symptom?
Date: 6/15/2008
I have been on Bontril since Oct. I lost 10lbs. I am still taking it but I am hungry still. I don’t eat as much as I would if I don’t take it but I think it helps me with energy. I have tried to stop taking it and I am soooo tired. I also have aches and pain all over my body. Is this a withdrawal symptom?

MB

AskDocWeb: The fatigue may be a withdrawal symptom but the aches and pain have not been reported.

Subj: How long does it take?
Date: 7/2/2008
Is it possible to stop taking bontril on your own if you feel you are addicted? I have been taking Bontril for several months and I have stopped taking it. I am having feelings of depression, withdrawals, and sluggish. Will these symtoms go away in a few days? How long does it take to get Bontril out of your system?

Allison

AskDocWeb: Most of it will be gone in just a few days however the withdrawal symptoms may last a few more after that.

Subj: Worried
Date: 7/2/2008
I have been on Apidex for about two months now. I lost about 15 pounds my first month. I’m a little worried thought because I am missing my period. My boyfriend and I are sexually active, but we use protection. I have also taken several pregnancy test and they have all come up negative. I am 99% sure I am not pregnant because I have also had cramping and the mood swings I usually do. My question is this: is it possible for Apidex to cause a woman to completely miss her monthly cycle?

Kami

AskDocWeb: While it is not one of the listed side effects (Physician’s Desk Reference 2008) a few women have reported a difference in their menstrual cycle. So yes, it is possible.

Subj: Bontril insomnia
Date: 7/9/2008
I have taken bontril in the past and lost weight with limited side effects but, eventually went away. Now, I have started taking Bontril again for One week now. I have a bad case of insomnia. Although, I take it @ 7:30am and have trouble staying asleep(very restless)

Subj: Great results with Bontril
Date: 7/10/2008
I took Bontril several months ago and achieve great results. However I did experience head aches for the first couple of days although once I reached my desire weight goal I discontinue it for fear of future heart problems. This is the first diet pill that didn’t give me heart palpatation, nervousness or insomnia I would recommend this to my friend and family.

Subj: First weight loss aid that I have found to work
Date: 7/14/2008
I have been using Bontril for 16 weeks. I love it, I can not tolerate OTC diet pills due to the side effects and the gitter’s they give with all the extra “caffine” and have never found them to help in control of appetite. Bontril has helped with the cravings and appetite. I am on a 1200 calorie diet along with some excerise (as much as I can fit into my schedule). It took me a couple of days to adjust to the medication. After that I have not had a problem. I do notice more of the headaches and confusion if I do not eat enough or spaced out well enough for the day. You have to eat to be on this medication. Follow the directions, an hour after taking it in the morning have a healthy breakfast. Have a healthy light lunch, snacks and dinner. If you have headaches or problems sleeping at night you are not eating a balanced diet, balanced through-out the day. Also, need to drink plenty of water that could result in headaches too! Esp if you are increasing your activity level. I lost a lot in the first 8 weeks and have just recently slowed down to the recommended 1lb/week. I did plateau for a 2 weeks, but was also on vacation and cook-outs so not sticking to the 1200 calorie diet as faithfully as was in the beginning. I have lost a total of 40lbs in 16 weeks. This is the first weight loss aid that I have found to work with my body. Would recommend to those healthy enough to take it.

Subj: Jump start me again
Date: 7/16/2008
I am getting my 3rd refill. I need to loose about 13 more pounds but, like with everything else I have stopped loosing. Any suggestions to jump start me again. I have been counting point to make sure that I am eating enough and of course not too little. I am however concerned about when I stop using Bontil. I take 1 35 mg tablet 3 times daily. Is it dangerous to stop suddenly? And if so why? Thanks,

Bobbie

AskDocWeb: Since you didn’t mention exercise that is the most likely area that needs more attention. Jump starting your progress may be as easy as adding a half-hour walk to your daily schedule or getting the fun of taking up a new activity such as dancing. If you don’t know how to dance that’s okay. Taking dance lessons burns a surprising number of calories. Of course the activity doesn’t have to be dancing but you are much more likely to stick with an activity that is both fun and social.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) classifies Bontril as a controlled substance with “moderate dependence liability.” The concern is greatest for dependent prone individuals. Stopping suddenly should not be a problem for most people because the drug is only used short-term.

Subj: Accidentally took 2 Bontril
Date: 7/17/2008
I have been taking Bontil and then Adipex for about 4 months now. I have lost a total of 10lbs. Since I was already a small short person it is harder for me to loose the 15lbs I need to. I really don’t notice that many side affects except for some mood swings (I am female and this does seem to happen even off the Adipex 🙂 and some trouble with waking up in the middle of the night. Other than that it has helped to decrease my appetite. This morning I accidentally took 2 of the 37.5 tablets. Is this okay???

Cassandra

AskDocWeb: The results of an overdose depend on your current medical condition and can range from mild to severe. Seek emergency medial attention. The symptoms of an overdose include restlessness, tremor, rapid breathing, confusion, assaultiveness, hallucinations, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, an irregular heartbeat, seizures, and panic states.

Subj: Worried about Bontril
Date: 7/20/2008
I’ve been taking bontril for over two years at first I lost all the weight that I wanted but the doctor has continued to keep me on it, I need to stop taking it but I’m worried about the side affects off going off of it…What should I do?

Brandi

AskDocWeb: We suggest you share your concerns with your doctor and find out when you should stop taking this short-term drug since it no longer benefits you to take it.

Subj: Down the wrong pipe feeling
Date: 7/22/2008
I have been taking bontril for about 4 days now. I’ve been experiencing a little bit of problems getting to bed. But last night and all day today I’ve been feeling this “down the wrong pipe” feeling in my throat and chest. Could this just be gas or should I call my dr.?

Marie

AskDocWeb: It may be gas but it is always better to error on the side of safety, call your doctor.

Subj: Dental work?
Date: 7/30/2008
Is it alright to take Bontril and have dental work done?

Linda

AskDocWeb: Yes.

Subj: How long does it take?
Date: 8/5/2008
I just started taking the generic form of Bontril. I weigh 157 and I am hoping to take it for one month to get my weight down a little with exercise and diet. My question is if I am taking it now for the month of August than stop in September will it be safe to get pregnant in October? How long does it take to get completely out of your system?

Megan

AskDocWeb: Most of it will be gone in just a few days but it may take a couple of weeks to get completely out.

Subj: Dry mouth
Date: 8/7/2008
I have been taking Bontril for just 3 days. I have had no side effects except for a dry mouth. I have NOT noticed a decrease in appetite as of yet, but I am looking forward to seeing results in the next 4-5 weeks.
