Subj: low BG
Date: 11/21/2009
Is celebrex safe for type one diabetics. My wife is taking Crestor 100mg. and Cozaar 50 mg. All her numbers from her bloodwork are very good with an A1c of 6.0. I know we aren’t supposed to self prescibe but my wife took one of my celebrex 200mg. The next morning I awoke to her crashing bad {hypoglycemic sweats}. We had gone out to dinner the night before and the menu was all tapas of unknown and high glycemic foods, we guessed alot as to the amount of the bolus to give her. She has the omnipod pump system. She won’t take celebrex again w/o her doctors permission but I would like to know if celebrex could have contributed to her low BG. Thank You,

Henry

AskDocWeb: We were unable to find a connection between Celebrex and low BG but maybe a reader can help out here.

AskDocWeb: There are no reports of Celebrex having any affect on skin pigment.

Subj: Working out and continue to gain weight
Date: 12/2/2009
I have been running for a couple of years on the treadmill and lost 28 lbs over 2 years. I encountered a shoulder problem and my hips were hurting. I have been on celebrex for several months and have gained 6 lbs. I am working out and I continue to gain. I am now going off the drug and will try and find another source of relief.

Subj: Stomach pains, gas and diarrhea
Date: 12/18/2009
I have been taking Celebrex for a week now for several herniations and buldges in my C-spine and L-spine as well as muscle pain associated with the disc issues. The pain relief is ok, it takes away about 50% of the pain. However, I have been having severe stomach pains and horrible gas and diareah. I will not continue the Celebrex if these side effects continue.

Subj: Gained 6 lbs.
Date: 12/20/2009
I started taking celebrex (200mg) 10 days ago and have gained 6 lbs. I excercise daily and am on Weight Watchers with 19 points daily. I have no energy and must force myself to get moving. What other drugs or natural remedies can be used instead of celebrex? Thanks,

Sheila

AskDocWeb: We have had good results with a supplement combination of Glucosamine HCI 750mg and Chondroitin Sulfate 600mg. A few of the possible alternative drugs may be Tramadol (Generic Ultram), Butalbital (Generic Fioricet), Ultracet (Analgesic Combo), Carisoprodol (Generic Soma and Watson Brand), and Cyclobenzaprine (Generic Flexeril). There are too many alternatives to list them all here. We suggest you leave the choice up to your doctor as to what might work best for you.

Subj: Celebrex turned me into a zombie
Date: 12/27/2009
The surgeon who was lined up to replace my knee joint, prescribed Celebrex for me. By far the worst side-effect was the way it turned me into a zombie who couldn’t concentrate his thoughts. Anything which does that to me throws me into a mental depression and this drug certainly did. I gave it a fair trial over almost three weeks so I know I was not imagining and I’m not exaggerating.

Subj: Sitting pain
Date: 1/3/2010
I have only been taking Celebrex about 3 mos and I have found my breathing slightly labored at times. I excercise 3 days a week and walk generally daily. I would say the greatest effect of Celebrex would be it helps me sleep better as it helps some pain subside. I have pain in my SI joint in one hip and some arthritis in my lower back. It help this but does nothing for my pain while traveling more than an hour or so. Do others complain of ‘sitting pain’. I am more comfortable standing always rather than sitting. Can’t decide if Celebrex is worth the risk for long term use. Thanks in advance for any comments you might have or others.

Kathy

AskDocWeb: An estimated 22.8 million Americans suffer sitting pain that is severe enough to reduce or eliminate some daily activities. There are specially designed products for sitting pain. If you haven’t looked into special pelvis-cushions you might find they make sitting considerably more comfortable, something like the Marvel cushion or RelaxoBak Seat. There are also padded undergarments like those made by LipoWear.

Subj: Drug contradictions?
Date: 1/7/2010
I have been taking celebrex 200 mg for 3 years along with lyrica 150mg and tramadol 75 mg and altosec 20mg and Hexal Lisin 10 mg. I suffer from chronic foot pain. Do any of these drugs contradict each other and have severe side effects? What would be the best and safest way for me to reduce the dosages?

Paul

AskDocWeb: Hexal Lisin and Altosec are not sold in the USA so we have no data on those drugs. There are moderately serious interactions listed between Tramadol and Lyrica (pregabalin), and between Tramadol and Celebrex. Using these drugs together may increase their central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects. This effect may increase the risk of hazardous activities that require mental alertness and motor coordination. The safest way to reduce dosages is by working closely with your doctor.

Subj: Hair falling out
Date: 1/11/2010
I took Celebrex for two months until my hair began to fall out. I discontinued taking it about two weeks ago. My hair is still falling out. Will I stop loosing my hair and will it grow back? I have also experienced swelling of my hands and feet. I will not take it again.

Claudia

AskDocWeb: Typically any hair loss that is caused by a drug will stop when the drug is discontinued. Hair loss is one of the less common side effect of Celebrex.

Subj: Celebrex did that in two days
Date: 1/23/2010
I’ve only been on Celebrex for a little more than a week; I am using it because I have very arthritic knees and am on meds for high blood pressure, and am taking Plavixs since having stints implanted in my main arteries. I write this to let you know that I am morbidly obese and decided to start exercising the minute I realized my knees weren’t in constant pain. Celebrex did that in two days by just a little exercise and eating smart I’ve lost 9.5 lbs in 8 days.

Subj: Celebrex and Asthma
Date: 2/10/2010
I have been on 200mg of Celebrex for 4 years for rheumatoid arthritis pain. At first it worked wonderfully on my feet and hand pain, but over time the pain has gotten worse and I’ve recently had to add methotrexate. In as happy as I’ve been with the pain management, I’ve struggled with how it’s aggravated my asthma, which hadn’t been a problem in over 20 years. Because of the reduced effectiveness and the breathing issues, I’ve been motivated to discontinue the Celebrex. Two days after stopping the celebrex I ended up with a full blown asthma attack. I’ve been receiving treatment for a week now and am still struggling to breathe. I have been searching for anyone with similar experiences, but haven’t found anything on this subject. I find it hard to believe they’re unrelated.

Subj: Hair loss with Celebrex
Date: 2/11/2010
Hi… I’ve lost alot of hair while taking celebrex, wondering if i stop taking celebrex will my hair grow back…Please get back to me…I’m thinking i might need to get rogaine for woman…HELP…PlEASE

Tracy

AskDocWeb: Hair loss has several causes and while it can be drug induced, it typically stops when the drug is discontinued. Unfortunately this is one of the less common side effects of Celebrex. There are also several medical conditions that can cause hair loss so check with your doctor. If that doesn’t work then you may want to consult with a AdDermatologist.

Subj: This is alarming
Date: 2/19/2010
I underwent knee surgery for a torn meniscus in October 2008. My recovery was slow, but steady. After a year, I still had pain and range of motion issues so my doctor put me on Celebrex. After a week on the drug, I could bend my knee enough to do a quad stretch and have been able to get back to doing heavier weights at the gym, as well as interval running on the treadmill. This is the good news. The bad news is, despite this increased activity, in the 3 months I have been on the Celebrex, I have gained almost 5 lbs. I know it doesn’t seem like a lot to those who have gained more. I’m sure that without the exercise and watching what I eat, the gain would be much more. This is very alarming, as most of it seems to be around my waist and I am, due to family history, at risk of developing Type II diabetes. I am reluctant to quit taking the Celebrex, as it really does make a daily difference in my pain levels and ability to bend my knee (I also do yoga).

Subj: Weight gain
Date: 2/25/2010
I take Celebrex about 3 times a week (as needed) and it has been great for minimizing my knee pain which is caused by bone on bone contact. I have been taking it for about 8 weeks and have put on ten pounds in spite of playing tennis 4-5 time a week.

Subj: Breathing very shallow
Date: 3/1/2010
I have been on celebrex for six days due to tendonitis in my right hand. I still have some pain but not like before. My main concern is that some mornings I awake with this feeling of something heavy on my chest which makes my breathing very shallow. I do have asthma and also have had laryngeal spasms, but this does not feel like those symptoms at all, but I am anxious about it.

Elaine

AskDocWeb: It can be difficult to sort out the cause of that heavy feeling on the chest, especially in someone who has asthma. Rather than worrying about it, talk to your doctor about any symptom that becomes a concern.

Subj: Side effects?
Date: 3/3/2010
i used celebrex a feww years back for my osteoarthiritis pain i had and it seemed to work, but when i heard it gave some bad side effects like intestinal bleeding i got scared and stopped taking it and iwent back to my doctor and he told me that it would take a very long time for symptoms like that to occur say about ten years or so is this really true, cause iam thinking of taking celebrex again but not sure. what do you think i should do it really helps with my pain.

Leo
AskDocWeb: Your doctor would not prescribe Celebrex unless the known benefits are greater than the possible risks so follow your doctor’s instructions.
