Celebrex seems to cause neuropathy
Date: 9/8/2013
I have osteoarthritis and have stated taking Celebrex for it but find that it seems to cause neuropathy. I had discovered that I got neuropathy also from taking medication for cholesterol. I am wondering if anyone else also got this reaction. I seemed to make my arthritis worse after taking it for a while.

Celebrex review
Date: 10/5/2013
I have taken Celebrex for almost a month. It seemed to help with pain at first and now now at all. I am considering going to Chiropractor. I have even started MSM supplements. I don’t think I will refill my script for Celebrex. Also my trigger thumbs have come back full force since being on Celebrex. So much for it being good for inflammation.

AskDocWeb: The initial pain relieving effect of Celebrex starts within an hour of the first dose. However, the maximum pain relieving effect can take a few days to build up as it reduces inflammation.
Research is finding that diet can play an important part in reducing the pain of inflammation. Certain vitamins in particular may help control inflammatory processes in the body. A lack of vitamin B6 can increase inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis, leading to more joint damage. Because vitamin B6 is used by the body to fight inflammation, the body is constantly using it up, so you need to restock it daily through diet. This B vitamin is plentiful in foods like beef, turkey, vegetables, and fish.
One thing you may not have considered is the possibility of food allergies, which can increase inflammation. A food allergy may increase the pain from inflammation without the presence of other symptoms. Some common food allergens include gluten, milk, nuts, eggs and nightshade vegetables. Contrary to common belief, it is possible to develop an allergy to the foods that you eat often. To test for allergies consult with an Allergist.
Some of the culprits known or suspected of increasing the pain of inflammation include:
- aspartame
- corn oil
- cottonseed oil
- grape seed oil
- margarine
- monosodium glutamate (MSG)
- omega-6 oil (soy, corn and cottonseed oil)
- partially hydrogenated oil
- polyunsaturated fats
- refined trans-fat
- safflower
- sugar (corn syrup, dextrose, fructose, golden syrup, maltose, sorghum syrup and sucrose)
- sunflower oil
- vegetable shortening
On the other side of avoidance there are foods that reduce inflammation:
- Berries: Blueberries, pomegranate and cherries.
- Green papaya contains enzymes that reduce inflammation.
- Kiwis contains enzymes that reduce inflammation.
- Olives and Extra Virgin Olive Oil; These oily fruits are packed with anti-inflammatory polyphenols that have been shown to reduce arthritis as well as heart disease. It is important to note that the phytochemicals in olives that reduce inflammation are not present in the refined oil. So remember to use the extra virgin, cold-pressed oil or the whole olives.
- Omega-3 fatty acids turn off inflammation. Sources include flax seeds, cold-water fish, hemp seeds, walnuts, chia seeds and grass-fed beef.
- Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain, which has been used by the medical community for over 50 years.
- Tumeric is an exceptional anti-inflammatory. It is best absorbed when combined with black pepper or other aromatic spices.
Remember that the food you eat provides your body with the nutrition it needs for proper function. Increasing the quality of your diet will increase your quality of life.
