Sudden weight gain
Date: 12/6/2014
After reading the reviews on this website, I think Celebrex may be the cause of my sudden weight gain. I’m also going to stop & see what happens. Thank you for this info.
Stella
AskDocWeb: Always consult with your doctor before discontinuing any prescription drug. Most patients do not realize just how much pain Celebrex masks until they stop.
Caution
Date: 12/15/2014
Had several periods (10 years apart)on 200mg Celebrex daily. In the first period it just stopped working suddenly. Chemist asked whether I had starting another medication. I told her I hurt my back shifting a ladder and that I had taken 3 lots of 2 Panadol over two days. She said that my liver was unable to process that much medicine. Celebrex kicked in again a few days later.Cheers

How long does Celebrex last?
Date: 1/16/2015
My mom started taken Celebrex and got very sick by the effects. My question is how long does it last? She been off the product a week now..She is very concern because she is from time to time trembling and has trouble speaking. Body shakes..How long is it in the system? In the after math?
Yolanda
AskDocWeb: It can take from 2 to 3 days for the body to completely clear the drug from the system. However, that doesn’t change the original reason for taking this medication which may continue to cause distress.

Generic Celebrex
Date: 2/11/2015
I have taken Celebrex for many years. I have tried to taper off several times but the pain of the withdrawal is so intense that I always resume. The cost alone should make a person want to stop. I have looked forward to the release of the generic. This month my prescription was filled with the generic. I experienced the same symptoms of withdrawal that I had when I tried reducing my intake. Horrible aching body all over.. That s what brought me to this site. Are others finding that the generic isn’t the same drug? Now I read about all this weight gain and I too have experienced that side effect. I am determined to get off this stuff. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Lana
AskDocWeb: We don’t know whether the pain experienced when discontinuing is cause by the underlying condition or a symptom of withdrawal. Sometimes small changes in diet can make a significant difference in the amount of pain experienced. Have you considered using herbs to reduce inflammation?
Nightmares
Date: 3/5/2015
I am 70 and have taken Celebrex for over 9 years for chronic back pain from a car accident. Two weeks ago the pharmacy switched me to generic Celebrex and I have woken up 1-3 times per night with nightmares. They have not been a problem for me since I was 9 and had severe anemia, which I don’t have now. Could this be a side effect from the generic pills? Thanks
Julie
AskDocWeb: That seems unlikely as the side effects of the original drug does not list any effect on dreams. The generics are supposed to be pharmacologically equal to the brand name drugs. However, in some cases that appears to be not always the case.
Bad taste

I am taking 200 mg of Celebrex daily. I am having a very bad taste in my mouth. Self conscious of it because I don’t know if my breath smell the same.

Generic Celebrex
Date: 4/5/2015
I have been taking Celebrex for a year. This last Rx, 2 months ago, was for the generic that was just released. I had to quit taking it 2 days ago because of stomach upset. I feel like I have a low grade flu. Is it the same as the original? I have right ankle arthritis from a bad break 4 years ago, but am currently in a boot for a stress fracture, so I have almost no ankle pain, thankfully. Before this wonderful drug, I was in so much pain that I had to use a crutch. Any thoughts on the generic? Thanks in advance,
Sue
AskDocWeb: According to the Food and Drug Administration, the generic is supposed to be equivalent to the original drug in its pharmacological effects. Reports from consumers say that is not always the case.

Acid reflux
Date: 4/18/2015
I have acid reflux and it was under control so I thought I could go back on Celebrex as it helped so much the first time I was on it. I have tendencies in feet. I have so much nausea so I have had to stop it and the pain had returned to my feet. This site was very helpful as I found that it has a half life. I am going to call my doctor maybe Advil will work for me or where is has a half life I could take every other day thank you for the info.
Melody
AskDocWeb: You are welcome Melody. It is also important to note that Celebrex can cause stomach bleeding.
Flushing heat and redness
Date: 4/19/2015
I just started taking celebrex and about 6-8 hours later developed a flushing heat and redness all over my face & torso. It was so itchy. Everyone said it resembled a sunburn. Asked the pharmacist if it was interacting with my meclazine or hydrochlorothiazide that I am currently taking. He didn’t think so and suggested trying it again. I didn’t take either medications noted about but took the celebrex again and same thing about 8 hours later I developed the flushing, red rash (no blistering) and itching. I didn’t sleep all night. I don’t have these side effects when taking naparoxen.

AskDocWeb: Sounds like you need to discuss this with your doctor because there may be an allergic reaction involved and your treatment may need to be adjusted.
