Subj: Profuse sweating
Date: 7/22/2007
I am experiencing profuse sweating. Could this possibly be a side effect of Celebrex? I’ve been taking it for a month for tissue and joint pain.

Alane

AskDocWeb: Fever and hot flashes were reported in less than .1% and are considered an adverse reaction. Please consult with your physician.

Subj: Much more comfortable
Date: 7/25/2007
Two weeks ago my rheumatologist prescribed Celebrex, 200 Mgs, once a day after regimens of Tramadol and Darvocet did not work. They helped the pain but caused stomach problems. Since I have been taking Celebrex (two weeks) I am much more comfortable. The first day I did develop diarrhea but after the doctor suggested Priolsec ovc, I have been fine. I find that taking one pill with lunch is the best way for me.

Subj: Withdrawal affects?
Date: 8/9/2007
I used celbrex for a little over 3 months. I went off it 2 weeks ago because it wasn’t working. I now have horrible headaches and nausea. It lasts almost all day, and can be debilitating. I have never had headaches in all my life until now. Can celebrex have this as withdrawal symptoms?

Rebecca

AskDocWeb: Yes, any pain medication can have withdrawal affects.

Subj: Retaining fluid and weight gain
Date: 8/20/2007
Can I go from one dosage of 200mg a day to just every other day? Retaining fluid and weight gain noticed. Celebrex for knee pain. Thank you,

Jacque

AskDocWeb: Others have tried that but found out that it’s not as effective. If you’re concerned about weight gain ask your doctor for a different type of medication for your pain.

Subj: Celebrex is a Sulfa Drug
Date: 8/21/2007
I took Celebrex and my eyelids became swollen; eyes were weepy; I had a cough and was generally congested; I itched all over; my lower legs felt like I was walking on sausages; they hurt to walk and felt like the skin was stretched so taught they could explode. There were so many symptoms it took me a week to figure out the problem. The side affects on this product are vague when it comes to pointing out: If you are allergic to Sulfa drugs, this is a Sulfa Drug. I had to call a pharmacist and ask that question. Yes, this drug is in a class of drugs called sulfamides and that refers to SULFA. They should make that more clear in packaging and side affects they publish. This drug just caused me to develop every allergic reaction you can imagine, that would usually point you in the direction of an environmental cause. That was MY experience.

Subj: Risk factor
Date: 8/25/2007
I am 65, take a blood thinner Warfarin SOD 10 mg due to an aorita mechanical valve replacement. I have been taking Celebrex for about 10 years now without any complications. I am now going to VA, and they are taking me off of it due to the possibility of bleeding. I have Osteoarthrosis all over. When I got off Celebrex, it became unbearable. I had a few pills left so I took them and felt 500% better. Question: What is the risk factor… small, medium, large?

Tommy

AskDocWeb: The risk depends on your personal health and physical condition. That is something that only your doctor can determine. Since they believe the risk is large enough to take you off of it then it is probably a serious concern.

Subj: Muscle pain
Date: 8/28/2007
I took celebrex at one time and am experiencing some continued muscle pain, is the pain the results of taking celebrex. Thanks,

Opthelia

AskDocWeb: Stomach pain has been reported as a side effect but not muscle pain.

Subj: Not for me
Date: 9/2/2007
I was prescribed Celebrex for swelling/knee pain, something I’d never had. Took as directed. When I began to wean off the stuff after a couple weeks, I developed terrible flu-like symptoms, body aches, chills, stiff neck, throbbing headaches, as well as insomnia. I have read similar complaints on this web site and strongly disagree with your comment that that it was probably just a flu bug. At 52 years old, I know what the flu feels like and this is NOT the flu. I am still having symptoms and it appears that this powerful drug, while it helped with my knee pain (source unknown – not osteo or rheumatoid…ruled out with blood tests), is not for me.

Subj: The good outweighs the bad affects
Date: 9/6/2007
I have been on Celebrex for about 18 months, 400mg a day. My arthritis is Psoriatic, closer to Rheumatoid. If I stop taking it for any reason, hip or knee replacements, I notice the pain and swelling almost immediately. I have been suffering from nausea off and on, usually 2-3 days at a time. My doctor has also prescribed Remicade infusions every 6 weeks to help control deterioration. I have not suffered any weight gain, although I have had continued cough and sinus problems the last 6 months or so. I believe the good much outweighs the bad affects. Regular quarterly blood work seems to control any liver function problems and I have never had to discontinue this drug except for surgeries. If doesn’t work for everyone but I would definitely recommend it.

Subj: Will I gain weight
Date: 9/14/2007
I just started taking celebrex will I gain weight now?

Michele

AskDocWeb: Since everyone is different, you may or may not gain any weight, not everyone does.

Subj: Matol
Date: 9/15/2007
Hi, I take Matol on a daily basis and was wondering if there is any side effects from this herbal product.

Peter

AskDocWeb: Matol makes several products, which one? Please note that there are some herbs that interact with medication.

Subj: Itchy rash
Date: 9/19/2007
I am 65, work full time on my feet, have arthritis pain in back, neck, and hands and torn cartilage in my knees. Taking 200 mg Celebrex daily for about three months, works GREAT, pain gone overnight, but for the past week have been having a very itchy rash on various parts of my body, just checking this site to see if it could be a side effect.

Steve

AskDocWeb: Yes, it could be an allergic reaction. Please report this to your doctor.

Subj: Celebrex cause ED?
Date: 9/21/2007
I have been on celebrex for about 2 years. I am taking it for my RA. I noticed that after using it for this long, it starts to give you ED. I stopped taking it for about 2 weeks and took Advil instead for my pain and I was back to normal. I am 49 years old and wonder if any other men had similar problems.

NAYAN

AskDocWeb: Erectile dysfunction is not listed as a side effect and since there has only been one other report of ED with Celebrex usage in the past four years we would say it is most likely a coincidence.

Subj: Celebrex ringing in my ears
Date: 9/26/2007
I have been taking celebrex 200mg per day for several years but about 2 months ago I started having a constant ringing in my ears. Could celebrex be the culprit?

Frances

AskDocWeb: Yes, deafness, ear abnormality, earache, and tinnitus has been reported to occur in less than 2% of users.

Subj: Effect of Celebrex on the kidneys?
Date: 10/3/2007
I have started taking Celebrex 200mg per day in order to partially relieve pain from arthritic shoulders. I notice a marked decrease in the urge to urinate at night. I’m assuming that this is because of the effect of Celebrex on the kidneys. I’ve also wondered if it has the effect of lowering libido since I notice a difference in that too. However, since I am 80 years old that may have nothing to do with it. Any answers?

W. C.

AskDocWeb: Celebrex is a NSAID which are thought to have negative effects on the kidney and in rare instances can precipitate kidney failure. In most cases this is nothing to be alarmed about but given your age, your doctor may want to monitor you to make sure your kidneys and liver are okay. The incidence of effects on kidneys is slightly higher than placebo and the same as other NSAIDs.

Subj: Feel better off the drug
Date: 10/16/2007
I was taking Celebrex for shoulder pain for just over a month and gained so much weight that I could no longer fit into any of my clothes. My diet hadn’t changed and I was actually more physically active during that month than usual. Then, I read that “water retention” was one of the side effects, but many sites indicate that there was no “medical proof” that weight gain was a side effect. Based on the number of people on this site who have had unexplained weight gain after taking Celebrex, and have difficulty losing it, I think that should be “medical proof” enough that it’s not just water retention but actual weight gain. Fortunately, my shoulder injury has healed fairly well and I can stop taking Celebrex and use ibuprofen when necessary. I actually feel better overall off of the drug.

Subj: Breathlessness with Celebrex
Date: 10/18/2007
I have been using Celebrex for the past 5 years. Take 200mg once a day, occasionally if more pain take a 2nd pill. Is Breathlessness while walking (normal phase) one of the symptoms for long time users? I feel the need to pause for a few minutes if I walk a short distance? I do have a bicuspid aortic valve but angiogram and other tests say that ejection factor is above 60%. Could celebrex be adding to this problem? The other medications I take are hyzaar, plendil, coreg, lipitor and amitriphylline, Lozol and glaucoma eye drops xalatan and timoptic. Would appreciate your comments

Chalu

AskDocWeb: It is possible, if you have any difficulty breathing you should tell your doctor immediately.
