Subj: Questions about the use of Curaderm
Date: 5/31/2010
I am inquiring about the product “CURADERM” for a facial Basal Cell Carcinoma. I had a scrape and burn of the lesion instead of MOHS Surgery done 4/20/10. The lesion is coming back faster than before the procedure. The lesion was first noticed about 3 years ago but I did nothing. A check last month confirmed the BCC. The lesion is on my left temple near my eye. The lesion itself is 5/8″ with a 2″ diameter blood dot reddened and scaly area surrounding it. The lesion is raised with a yellowish color and crusty.

In using Curaderm:

1. Do I wash and use antiseptic before every application?

2. Do I spread Curaderm on just the lesion or also on the 2″ diameter reddened area around it? Which, then, would be very close to the eye and hard to prevent weepage to the eye.

3. Must I remove the crusted patch on the lesion before applying Curaderm?

4. They say to keep Curaderm from healthy skin. Why? if it’s safe for healthly skin.

5. Why the 2″ limited appliaction of Curaderm?

6. Any specific type of antiseptic to use before application of Curaderm?

7. How does Curaderm affect the entire face in seeking out the end roots of the cancer? If it’s so close to the eye, what will happen when the Curaderm reaches(under the skin) for the roots of the cancer?

8. What are the symptoms of allergic reactions to the Curaderm? I need specific answers on the use of it.

Dan

AskDocWeb: All good questions Dan and we have forwarded them to their customer service. Hopefully they will be able to provide some answers.

Subj: Swimming?
Date: 6/7/2010
I swim almost everyday for exercise. I am using Curaderm on a spot near my lip. I want to know if I can continue my early morning swim while using this product. I don’t want to be out of the pool for a long period if I can avoid it.

Sylvia

AskDocWeb: It appears that swimming isn’t a problem while using Curaderm. Several sources say that it is advisable to reapply after swimming.

Subj: Squamous cancer
Date: 6/21/2010
I started using Curaderm a week ago between my neck and shoulder, where I had a byopsy with the result being a squamous cancer, and now have a red ozie area out side the small spot. I think I must have had the cream spread under the tape. Does this mean that the whole area is a squamous cancer? I didn’t think that the good cells were affected. Please tell me if this will heal if I continue use? Thank You,

Fran

AskDocWeb: We are collecting comments and product reviews about Curaderm-BEC5 but we do NOT advise about its use. For that you need to contact the developer Dr Bill Cham or the manufacturer. They do claim that healthy cells are not harmed and that new skin growth replaces the cancer cells but we have been unable to verify that.

Subj: Finger print?
Date: 6/30/2010

George

AskDocWeb: Sorry George, we were unable to find any reference to Curaderm about removing finger prints.

Subj: Purchase Curaderm BEC5?
Date: 7/11/2010

AskDocWeb: Sorry Barbara, the FDA decided that this product is no longer available to people living in the USA.

Subj: Moles?
Date: 7/31/2010
I was thinking of ordering Curaderm for my husband. He is 60 and has been going to the dermatologist every 6 months and has moles removed. He has many small ones coming out on his back and head, but your article states that curaderm should not be applied to moles. Why is that? Otherwise, the dr. will be scraping off moles for the rest of his life. He had bladder cancer in 2004. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you,

Maria

AskDocWeb: The information from the manufacturer says that Curaderm does not work on moles.

Subj: Incredible pain
Date: 8/8/2010
I’m usually not one to complain, but I must add to all the positive claims that Curaderm causes incredible agony, if not hell-fire burning that persists all too long. I’d read the instructions on-line, but that intensity was not described as fair warning. Had it been, I would not have treated as many sites as I did at one time. Compared to other alternatives, it’s a good choice and really does what it claims with no scarring. Besides the pain it causes, my only other complaint/suggestion is that you use clear tubes for the cream so that we can observe what remains, since running out complicates the process.

Subj: Allergic to eggplant
Date: 9/22/2010
I am mildly allergic to eggplant ( sometimes it slightly upsets my stomach) Can I still try using curaderm BEC5 on BCC?

Cathy
AskDocWeb: That sounds like you would be asking for trouble because Curaderm is concentrated from eggplant. The adage is, do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.

Subj: Squamous cell carcinoma
Date: 9/28/2010
I have a patient with a squamous cell carcinoma which appears as just redness over jaw and cheek, however he gets a lot of pain and cannot open his mouth on one side. I have only just met him, he told me he has had many skin cancers removed in the past, and that the doctors have told him they can’t do anything for him. he takes only analgesics. Would the curaderm work given that it is obviously quite deep in his face, goes back to the ears too. Can you recommend someone I could talk to who is experienced with curaderm? Thanks,

Faye
AskDocWeb: To date, the manufacturer has not responded to our email.

Subj: Using Curaderm
Date: 10/29/2010
Using Curaderm… I need help as I want to do this correctly… I would like a dermatologist in the Beverly Hills or Los Angeles area who is conscious and aware and supportive of Curaderm, know anyone here? Thank you so much, I am VERY excited to use this form of healing for my basal cells on my face…

Grif

AskDocWeb: Does anyone have a suggestion for Grif?

Subj: Basal cell carcinoma
Date: 11/12/2010
I had a small brown spot on my lip that was removed. It came back from testing as basal cell carcinoma. The doctor wants to use Mohs surgery to remove any cancer cells left behind. Can I use the cream curaderm to kill the cancer cells. There is no spot there now just a small indent from where is was removed two months ago.
Thank you.

Elliot

AskDocWeb: Although it is being used in other countries, the FDA has not approved of the treatment of any cancer with Curaderm in the USA.

Subj: Curaderm bec5
Date: 12/8/2010
Please send me instructions on how to use the curaderm bec5. I had a skin cancer removed from my face and have lots of brown scaly spots on my arms. My husband has brown scaly spots on the top of his head and he says it itches. Will you contact me so I can order the product, giving me the size of product, how to use it and cost? Thanks,

Shirley

AskDocWeb: The information we have on Curaderm is published here. Our intention here is to collect feedback and comments from users about possible side effects.

Subj: Message for Dr Cham
Date: 1/4/2011
I have read about Curaderm and am moved to see how God is using you to safe lives. I am a visitor in US having come for treatment from Kenya. My neighbor in Kenya has got skin cancer and doctors have not been able to treat him. I would like to help this poor man but I can only afford to pay $25 dollars. I know this is not your price but if you could go out of your way, you will meet with God’s blessings. Please respond,

Jane

AskDocWeb: The last we heard, Dr Cham was working at a company called Curaderm Global located in the South Pacific.

Subj: When to stop
Date: 1/9/2011
I just started useing curaderm and I would like to know how do you know when to stop using it?

Frank

AskDocWeb: According to their instructions, it is intended for twice daily application to the lesion until the lesion is completely gone.

Subj: Using Curaderm on squamous cell carcinoma
Date: 1/30/2011
I began Curaderm yesterday on a large lesion which appears to be (another) squamous cell carcinoma. Also had an MRI that shows there is no invasion of muscle (in my leg) as the surgeon suggested there might be. I had a SCC removed a year ago close to the location of this one. I underwent surgery with intubation, a spinal block, general anesthesia, crutches and 6 months to heal. I’m trying to avoid that scenario by using Curaderm. I began yesterday and today the lesion is quite red and a number of other red spots that are pimple-like have sprung up around it. I also want to avoid more biopsies that also take months to heal. I hope Curaderm will be helpful and that I have the strength to stick with it.

Subj: Healing process?
Date: 2/8/2011
I have been using curaderm on a squamous cell carcinoma for a week. I apply it and cover with the tape that came with it twice a day. The carcinoma has a thick white covering over the top of it. Am I to remove the covering or is it part of the healing process?

Joan

AskDocWeb: It appears that may be a part of the healing process however, they do say to clean the area to be treated with a mild antiseptic to remove old skin cells. The area being treated with BEC5 should remain covered with a dressing such as a micro pore and not allowed to dry out.

Subj: Looking to purchase Curaderm
Date: 2/10/2011
I am looking to purchase curaderm, other than Amazon, can you tell me if can be purchased any where else, i am in Australia, thanks,

Peter

AskDocWeb: So far Amazon is the only place where we have seen it for sale. Maybe a reader could help out with a suggestion.

Subj: Age spots & sun spots
Date: 2/14/2011
I have just started using curaderm for age spots & sun spots. I applied it 4 times to one area yesterday & twice today. At the end of the first day, it had already caused the age/sun spots in the treated area to darken considerably, which I take as a sign it is indeed working. Very painful though – at least for me, but maybe I have sensitive skin. Still, I hate my age’ sun spots & plan on persisting with the treatment as I can see its working.

Rebecca
