What happens if you let it dry?
Date: 2/19/2011
I just started using the product on two small places on my chest – only been 3 days now. I’ve noticed some irritation like redness. My question is, should I keep it covered 100% of the time? The instructions say to use micro pore tape which I’m using and not to let it dry out. What happens if I take the tape off and let it dry? Is that a problem? Should I continue to put cream on the irritated spot? Thank you,
Debra
AskDocWeb: If the wound dries out that forms a hard shell like scab. That would present a problem because it would prevent future applications from penetrating the scab.
Hoping to connect with someone
Date: 3/15/2011
I tried using curaderm on the tip of my nose. I used it for 9 weeks 2x’s a day. The normal skin that I tought grew back fell off and a crater or lesion was left. I went to a dermatologist who performed a biopsy to see what in fact is there. I want to avoid surgery especially because of the location. I have not actually talked to anyone who has successfully treated their own skin cancer nor do I have a doctor who can advise. I am hoping to connect with someone who has.

2 spots of Actinic Keratosis
Date: 6/14/2011
I have been diagnosed with 2 spots of Actinic Keratosis on both temples on my face. I began May 26 with twice/day Curaderm treatments. Both areas got much larger, red, and sensitive (stinging after application). One area seems smaller w/ some new skin growth, while the other seems the same. Will update later. Can purchase at $115 through Swanson Medical in Fargo, ND. You can find free shipping coupons on-line.

Highly recommended. Cured advanced basal cell carcinoma on nose due to lifetime exposure to the sun following sailing passion. No scars or side effects. Thank you dr. Cham.

AskDocWeb: It would be helpful to have a little more detail about your experience. How long did it take?
Pain is dreadful
Date: 6/23/2011
This is the 3rd month of using curaderm on what turned out to be a large BCC on the side of my neck. My husband, who treats it says it is getting much smaller, but the pain after he puts the curaderm on is much worse now that when we first started it, and it lasts much longer after each treatment. I am not allergic to eggplant. Perhaps its because I am not feeling well with the flu. But I’m dreading each time it has to be done. Help please if you can.

AskDocWeb: Some doctors are experimenting with the use of anesthetics during painful treatments. For example cortisone shots are notoriously painful and it has been found that using a freezing spray, lidocaine, or some other anesthetic to numb the area temporarily greatly reduces the pain when a shot is given. Of course you should always consult with your doctor about any specific treatment. Some anesthetics such as Benzocaine should not be applied to open wounds.
Looking for cheapest source for Curaderm-BEC5
Date: 9/13/2011
Hi AskDocWeb, I’m in Los Angeles and may have skin cancer as the growth fits all five signs of it. I’ll be seeing a doctor tomorrow for a referral to a dermatologist, but, in the meantime, I’m getting ahead of the curve. I’m trying to find the cheapest source for Curaderm-BEC5. I’ve found a $120.00 US price so far. Do you know of anywhere I can get it less expensively? Thanks,
Peter
AskDocWeb: Sorry Peter, the FDA decided that people living in the USA should not have access to this product. The FDA has told U.S. Customs Services to not allow it in this country.
Progressing through each stage
Date: 10/1/2011
I have been using curaderm for about 16 weeks now. I’m concerned because although I seem to be progressing through each stage, this process continues and from what I’ve read it should have been done by now? This is an scc on my upper left forehead close to scalp. Symptoms prior to biopsy were just slightly scaly, itchy skin over a 1 inch by half inch area. Right now I have a hole still about a quarter inch in diameter. How much longer?? Going a bit crazy without anyone to discuss this with.
Alyson
AskDocWeb: Hopefully you have a doctor involved in monitoring your progress. However, we are concerned about the length of time it is taking for your treatment. There are three kinds of Basal Cell Carcinoma with increasing aggressiveness: nodular, infiltrative, and sclerosing. Although Basal Cell Carcinoma does not metastasize it can infiltrate or burrow microscopically into tissues without being visible. Our concern is that the Curaderm may appear to resolve the visible SURFACE component of the skin lesion while it continues to spread microscopically. Did your biopsy identify which type of BCC you have? Do you have back-up dermatologic support in case it does not resolve or recurs?
How can I get Curaderm?
Date: 12/10/2011
How can I obtain Curaderm. If by prescription only, can my doctor do so here in St Louis, Missouri? Any pharmacy? Thank you so much.
Leslie
AskDocWeb: Hi Leslie, and welcome. Dr. Cham has to get FDA approval before Curaderm can be sold in the USA. So far that seems unlikely as the FDA seems to be making it more and more difficult to get new products approved. Originally the FDA was supposed to act as our watchdog on food and drugs to protect American consumers. However, they are now actively censoring scientific research. They have threatened walnut producers and cherry growers with legal action if they published the health benefits of eating those foods.
White scab
Date: 12/12/2011
I have used curaderm 4X per day for 10 days. In the last few days a white scab has formed over the surface and I dont think the curaderm can reach the effected tissue. HELP!
Ross
AskDocWeb: That is probably why they say to keep the area covered and avoid letting the scab dry out. As long as the scab is soft it is still absorbent.
What am I doing wrong?
Date: 2/2/2012
I have a sunspot the size of a dime. I applied bec5 and covered with micropore twice a day for a month. Turned red then a few white spots and then totally white. I now have a thick scab and am applying tamanu oil. Is this ok? What am I doing wrong?
Dona
AskDocWeb: You didn’t mention if you were working with a local doctor or not. We strongly recommend you do that. A local doctor can evaluate whether or not you are making progress and may have other advice that might help.
Curaderm in the UK?
Date: 2/4/2012
Can you tell me how I can buy Curaderm in the UK please?
William
AskDocWeb: Sorry William, when the Food and Drug Administration here in the States decided that people should not have access to this product we removed all links to purchase it. Although we disapprove of the job that the FDA is doing here we support their intended purpose.
Dr Bill Cham

Hello, could you please tell me where Dr Bill Cham originally from? Thanks.
Ben
AskDocWeb: We have not seen that information in print yet. Maybe a helpful reader can point out a biography.

Rosacea and brown spots on the face?
Date: 2/22/2012
I can’t share any experience but I have a question which is: Is curadem bec5 effective for rosacea and brown spots on the face. Waiting for an answer. Regards.
Suzanne
AskDocWeb: It appears that BEC5 is intended for use only on primary and secondary non-melanoma skin cancer. We have seen no mention of other uses for that product. Read more feedback about Curaderm
