Subj: Love Didrex
Date: 9/11/2006
Love it! I started taking it and lost 20 lbs in the first two weeks, then it plateued and now I can lose 1-5 lbs a week, depending on how much extra effort I involve myself in (diet and exercise). I can “feel” the addictiveness of it, and I *was* really worried about it… but then I took a two weeks vacation overseas where I forgot to bring my prescription. After a day of jet lag I completely forgot about it and never once felt any “craving” like I expected to do. I didn’t even notice that I was missing anything at all. Not so much as a low energy level to speak of, but I certainly *did* find my appetite come zooming back in full force. If you’ve ever kicked smoking, this stuff, even with moderately heavy usage, even with months of usage, will be a walk in the park. I just wish it weren’t so tightly controlled. I’d love to have a three month supply that I could self-regulate my dosage with. One month at a time is annoying.

I have a relative who has been using didrex for at least fifteen years. This relative is about 30lbs overweight, however they are not being used as an appetite suppressant but to stay awake. They are unwilling to admit they have a problem, but I can tell when he does not take them, as he has absolutely no drive to do anything. He cannot function as a normal human being in society without taking these pills. I worry about what the long-term side effects are and think he will probably drop dead of a stroke or a heart attack at any moment.

Subj: Fatal category?
Date: 10/20/2006
I have just been prescribed this medication (50mg) after being on Bontril – the reviews above kind of scared me because I have a similar addictive behavior. I was told that this was for people “who have a high tolerance” but I do not want to fall into ADDICTION. Can anyone tell me if 50mg would fit in this fatal category? I am only taking 1 a day.

Subj: Addicted to Didrex

My sister is addicted to Didrex and takes 30 or more per day. She has taken it for many years, she only weighs 100 lbs. and is about 5/2″. The doctor still prescribes them to her. She has lost everything to buy the medication. Her withdrawal symptoms are terrible. She has developed severe mental problems, she is extremely mean and is a danger to her family and herself. When I try to ask her to get help she snaps on me and starts a major fight. She looks 20 years older than her age. Her mental problems developed from overuse. At this time she does not see herself having a problem. I feel this drug is very dangerous and should not even be manufactured. If you are thinking about taking this medication, please do not do so. I am watching my sister slowly die. Her personality has changed completely. She used to care about everyone, now she only cares about the people that can supply her. She has nothing to do with her family. She is very abusive to me and her pets when she doesn’t have them. I am suffering from her addiction too. She tried cocaine several times when she was unable to get the pills. I am afraid it may even be worse than what I know of. I can not find any help for her. I am forced to watch her die. Please do not start this medication regardless of your weight.

I have used Didrex for about 6 months now, it worked great for me in the begging but then my body got used to it. I then needed to take it more frequently to the point that I have become addicted. I cannot function without taking it! I’m happy one minute than angry the next, can’t keep my eyes open unless I take it. It has put me in a horrible depression and I would not advise anyone to use this particular medication.

I have taken didrex for several years. I stopped taking approx. one week ago, I am now experiencing leg cramps frequently. I have also had other problems such as tingling sensations and numbness. I would like to ask if these are withdrawal symptoms or side effects of stopping the didrex. Please answer. Thanks,

Sweet MOM

AskDocWeb: It is possible that these are withdrawal symptoms but with tingling sensations and numbness we suggest you see your doctor.

Subj: Finding a doctor
Date: 5/23/2007
I was looking for help finding a doctor that prescribes Didrex. I have no substance abuse issues and no medical problems. I have gained 60 pounds in 2 1/2 years. I live in Atlanta Georgia. Anyone out there with referrals?

Michele

AskDocWeb: Sorry Michele, that’s not what we do here. We suggest you get a complete physical and then let your doctor decide what you need. Your goal should be a specific weight, not a specific drug.

Subj: Didrex for years
Date: 5/23/2007
I have been on didrex for years. I can’t tell you how long. What is the long term use damage to your body? I’m getting scared because I have to have it. I have been addicted to all kinds of drugs. I’m scared what this med has done to me please tell me what happens to you if you do take it for a long time. I take at least 90 pills in a week to a week and a half.

Angela

AskDocWeb: We suggest getting help from your physician and have lab work done to see if you have any damage from overdosing, which you are doing. Then go to drug counseling.

Subj: Problems catching my breath
Date: 6/12/2007
Hi, just wanted to say that I have been on didrex for 3 1/2 weeks now, I have lost 18 lbs. However I do have problems catching my breath, it seems a lil worse when I take my 20mg prozac, but I am happy with the results so far and will continue until I reach goal.

Jessica

AskDocWeb: Always tell your doctor about any problems with breathing, it could indicate the beginning of a serious problem.

Subj: Didrex for 26 years
Date: 6/16/2007
I would advise not a single person to take Didrex. It will kill you. If it doesn’t really kill you it will mentally. I’ve taken Didrex off and on (MORE ON) for over 26 years. Yes 26 years. Now I’ve got to have 3 major surgeries and I’ve got to get off them. The doctor said there was a risk in being put to sleep if I didn’t stop them at least 3 weeks before the surgery. It’s been 11 days since I’ve taken one. While I had quite a few of Didrex left I started cutting down on them hoping it wouldn’t be so bad. I tried 2 for about a week then 1 for a week I have one left in the bottle when I stopped them completely. Just knowing that one is there helps. I don’t know why. Since I’ve been on didrex I’ve had very bad stomach trouble, diarrhea for over 3 years. The first time I eat in the morning it goes straight through me and then the rest of the day I have loose bowels. And that’s when I was taking didrex. (And still now)

I know it affects your mind because I’m very depressed never get out of the house except to go to the doctor. I’ve gone to 2 rehabs which did not do any good at all cause while your in there it’s easy but when you get home then you have the responsibility of house work cooking and all. I just couldn’t do it without didrex it gives you the energy that I needed to get it done. I’m was always afraid of losing my husband if I didn’t keep a clean house and every thing done perfect for him. The first time I took didrex I was a Cheerleading Couch my assistant was taking them at the time and we were having two games at a time. I was getting so tired so she talked me into taking one. And back then I never took anything but bufferin for a headache. The first one I took didn’t help so later she again gave me another one. Which I regret ever taking. I was hooked on that energy. But I began to notice after taking more of them it made me want to work harder and for anyone to bother me I’d yell at them to leave me alone I needed to do my work. It’s just I had to have everything in it’s perfect place even if it mint staying up 3 days at a time. Then whenever I’d get without them I’d sleep for days until I could get more. Then I was back to work again.

I never really lost much weight at all cause I’d eat something sweet just to stop the hunger. In fact I believe most the surgeries I’m going through is due to taking didrex because the energy I could pick up such heavy things. Now I’m going through my back surgery then 3 weeks after it another back surgery then neck surgery. I’ve already had 3 knee surgery and finally a complete knee replacement and like I said back surgery in 2002 My spinal cord now is being pinched by L4 and L5 disc The doctor said I won’t be able to walk much longer if I don’t have these 3 surgery. So please listen don’t get hooked like I did because it’s so easy to If anyone would like to talk to me email me at GeorgiaBlondieP@aol.com please And right now I’m going through something so terrible I’d never wish it on anyone. Thanks,

Janice

Subj: Didrex story
Date: 6/28/2007
Approximately 4 years ago, I weighed 185 and am 5’7″. I am not a recovering addict. I wanted to lose weight so I went to see a physician who prescribed didrex along with a nutrition program of protein shakes for two meals, regular exercise, and a sensible dinner. I quickly lost 20 pounds. I noticed it was cheaper to order online so I started doing that and quit going to the doctor. I also was working out a lot and eating sensibly so I thought I could manage my weight program on my own. I did feel (and so did my husband) that didrex made me extremely irritable. My husband complained that I had a permanent scowl on my face and was quick to jump on him. I got into some ugly arguments with loved ones during that time. I also picked up an urge to smoke cigarettes, drank a lot more coffee, and noticed that I would drink more alcohol to bring me back down to a normal more calm state. I never took more than 50mg a day. Also, after taking didrex for 3 years, I thought I’d give myself a break on the weekends and not take didrex…. would wind up crashing (sleeping) all weekend and was ridiculously lethargic. I finally decided to quit cold turkey about a 1 1/2 years ago, as the effects of the drug started to scare me. I still never went over 50mg/day; however, I felt helpless, listless, and basically mentally depressed when I didn’t take it. It was hard getting off it, all I wanted to do was sleep.

I have since gained 50 pounds, haven’t weighed this much in my entire life. I do feel didrex helped to curb my appetite and when it wasn’t there, I was hungry again and didn’t have the energy to get to the gym. I went back to the nutritionist last week to get on a new program. I expressed my concern re: didrex but was informed that drug was the least addictive and had the least number of side effects. I’ve been back on didrex (hesitantly) for a week now and it feels okay. I gave up coffee, as caffeine made it worse the last time. I also will not continue on it past 12 weeks. The last thing I have to say is that I feel like the ones I was getting online maybe weren’t the real thing, as sometimes I would really feel like my heart was palpitating. If you do decide to try this drug, DO NOT get it online and consult a physician.
