Subj: Didrex prescribed by a doctor
Date: 7/5/2007
I am taking Didrex. I was prescribed by a doctor 50mg three times a day. I’ve been taking only two times a day due to not being able to sleep, but not really losing weight. It’s been three weeks. Am not afraid of addiction as I forget to take it, not “have” to have it. I think it will be good. I just need to work harder.

Subj: Wellbutrin and Didrex?
Date: 7/9/2007
I see you have here that you are supposed to be off Wellbutrin for 14 days before you start didrex. I have been on both for 3 years now. What can happen with mixing them? I did not know there was an interaction.

AskDocWeb: There is a dose-related risk of seizures associated with the use of Wellbutrin. The incidence of seizures is estimated at 0.1% at dosages up to 300 mg/day and 0.4% at dosages between 300 to 450 mg/day. This risk increases almost tenfold when the dosage is between 450 mg and 600 mg/day. The risk may also be increased when used with drugs that stimulant the central nervous system such as the following.

  • anorectics (such as Didrex and other diet drugs)
  • selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI)
  • monoamine oxidase inhibitors
  • neuroleptic agents
  • opioids
  • tricyclic antidepressants
  • tricyclic compounds (e.g., cyclobenzaprine, phenothiazines)
  • systemic steroids

The risk also increases when Wellbutrin is used with any substance that can reduce the seizure threshold. Extreme caution is advised if Wellbutrin is administered with any of the following;

  • carbapenems
  • cholinergic agents
  • fluoroquinolones
  • interferons
  • chloroquine
  • mefloquine
  • lindane
  • theophylline

These agents may have additive effects when combined, particularly in the elderly and in patients with a history of seizures or other risk factors for seizures (e.g., head trauma; brain tumor; severe hepatic cirrhosis; metabolic disorders; CNS infections; excessive use of alcohol or sedatives; addiction to opiates, cocaine, or stimulants; diabetes treated with oral hypoglycemic agents or insulin).

Subj: Ordering Didrex?
Date: 7/31/2007
I feel that there is some kind of danger in any type of medication that we put into our bodies but my question is that I was in an auto accident and have gained about 70 pounds. What effect will I have if I take this medication with my prn pain medication, oxycodone that I use for back pain. I strongly think that If I can lose the weight I would not have as much back pain and I would not need to take this pain medication, prn. Please write back before I order this weight lose product. Thank you for your time concerning this matter.

AskDocWeb: You need to consult with your personal doctor before you order for two reasons. First, this drug may not be a safe choice for you and could cause more problems than benefits. The second reason is that it may not work for you and you would be wasting your money.

Subj: I cry as I write this
Date: 9/7/2007
I took didrex for ~17 years, off for short durations. I have now been off for one month. It is very addicting. I have felt so much shame during the time I used it. I want to stay away from it because I don’t want to depend on it. I am more tired, I have difficulty concentrating, withdrawal affects my job performance. I always felt like people liked me better when taking it, I liked me better, not fat (or feeling that way) with more energy. I took more than the recommended dose for ~4 years. I was feeling horrible about myself, but it is so hard to get off of it. I asked my husband to hold me accountable, that has helped. I went to my primary care doctor, but felt too much shame to tell him. Afraid to have that in my medical records. My husband told him for me, he was understanding and is trying to help me. When I am working and feel like I am lost or can’t concentrate, I want to have it soooo bad. I feel lazy. I have a hard time socially. I sometimes don’t want to get out of bed all day. I wonder if this will ever go away. I pray & pray for God’s help. I want to stay away from it. I cry as I write this. Has anyone ever got off the medication and been normal again (what ever that is) I haven’t been normal since I started taking it. I would really like to hear if anyone is successful. My doctor, my husband, my sister, and those who are supportive I am so thankful, but they cannot stop the craving in my head, neither does antidepressants, etc. I have many personal and professional reasons to stay away from it, I would be so foolish to go back, I just feel tortured.

Subj: Pregnancy category X
Date: 9/23/2007
I am scared to death, I have been abusing my RX for didrex, taking more than the prescribed amount, I just found out today that I am 6 weeks pregnant, 4 gestational weeks I guess. I took the didrex for a week I guess but alot of it. I read it is a pregnancy cat. X. Should I terminate the pregnancy? I really need help with this.

AskDocWeb: Sorry Stacey, such questions are beyond the scope of what we deal with here, which are side effects. Please discuss this with your family and loved ones.

Subj: Feel great
Date: 11/26/2007
I had my thyroid removed gain weight, became depressed and lethargic and started drinking toooo much. With A good doctor’s help I am on fish oil for my metabolism, thyroid replacement female hormones (natural) and Didrex. It all works if used as you are instructed only. So, with the proper support of a good doctor, I have lost weight, workout 3 days a week, drink alot of water, play tennis, work, make dinner for the family travel and feel great. And cut back on my drinking/ Thank you,

AskDocWeb: Congratulations, it sounds like your doing a great job!

Subj: Rx worked
Date: 11/26/2007
I was on Didrex in 2000 for about 6 months and only utilized the prescribed amount by my doctor (3) 50 mg daily. I never experienced any of the problems you all are describing. I am actually considering asking for an RX again. Originally I lost about 30 lbs. on this product and now over the past 7 years have gained it back.

Subj: Peace without Didrex
Date: 12/5/2007
So happy I found this page. My neighbor recommended I take this, but I don’t think it is for me. Scary stories and I don’t even want to go towards that in my life right now. Thanks to all of you and I hope you find peace without Didrex.

Subj: Pain in kidneys
Date: 12/17/2007
I began taking didrex (50 mg)last week to lose about 25 pounds. On the second day my chest hurt and I have pain in my kidneys (lower back so I’m only assuming). I cut the pills in half and thought maybe a lower dose will be better. If I only take them for 2 weeks are they addictive? Called the doctor and he said he will put me on something else. Thanks,

AskDocWeb: Taking Didrex for that short a period of time shouldn’t cause any problem with addiction. The reason your doctor said to put you on something else is for your protection and benefit. That kind of pain isn’t something that should be ignored.

Subj: Hands turned blue
Date: 3/7/2008
I took Didrex for 11 days. During that time I noticed that my hands would turn blue on and off during the day. They would also feel cold to the touch. Is this a coincidence or could this be a reaction? I stopped taking it on my doctor’s advice and will see her in a couple of days. What is your thoughts on this?

AskDocWeb: The drop in temperature and blue color would seem to indicate a lack of blood circulation. That is not a side effect of Didrex.

Subj: I have lost nothing
Date: 3/20/2008
I have been on diadrx for three weeks I have lost nothing and can actually go back to sleep after taking them. They r not as strong as people say they are never taken anything b4 is something else wrong with me? Also had my thyriod tested twice not losing weight on diadrex.

Subj: Recommendation
Date: 3/26/2008
Didrex helped me lose 30 lbs. I ate better and exercised as well. I took it for a month. I didn’t have any side effects or addictions. I just wasn’t as hungry. I would recommend this product.

Subj: Hair loss
Date: 5/3/2008
Hello, I have been taking Didrex for around 2 weeks and I was wondering if there has been any reports of hair loss as a side effect. I have noticed a hand full of my hair falling out every time I take a bath. Has anyone else had this problem? Thank-you…

AskDocWeb: The manufacturer does not list hair loss as a side effect and in the four years we have been collecting feedback about Didrex, there have been no reports from users.

Subj: Didrex dosage
Date: 5/6/2008
My doctor put me on this because apparently I have the worlds worst gene’s and metabolism. I have been exercising regularly and dieting with a big whopping 4 pund weight loss. So my Doctor put me on a 25 mg dose once per day… I take it in the morning (6:30AM) and the only thing I notice is that I am pretty good to go.. would love to go work out because I have the energy but I am stuck at work. By the time lunch rolls around I am back to my old self – and hungry. I feel like I am not on a high enough dose to benefit from the effects… Could that be right? I thought most people who took it, took 3 50mg pills a day.

AskDocWeb: It is possible that your dosage may need to be adjusted, talk to your doctor.

Subj: Phentermine and drug test
Date: 7/6/2008
I just started taking Dridex after being on Phentermine for the past few months. I only have 25 more pounds to lose to get to my ideal BMI. I am currently seeking employment and will probably be drug tested within the next week. Will I test positive on the drug test? What would you recommend I do so that a positive result does not occur? Even if the result is positive, if I show my prescription drug bottle, will the employer know that I am taking this medication and will it affect the outcome of obtaining the job or not? In addition, how long does it take to get this drug out of my system? One more question, will Phentermine show up on the drug screen or not? Signed, Need Help in a Hurry!

AskDocWeb: One problem you face is that you don’t know which drug test will be used, and there are many. Some of the urine drug tests have been reported to show Didrex as a positive for Amphetamines. Didrex can stay in the body for up to a month after stopping.

Subj: Be responsible
Date: 8/27/2008
Didrex can be helpful when A) you have a weight problem or B) you have an abnormal thyroid and you have an excellent doctor who takes good care of you. I have been on it short term and I was required to go in for blood tests and blood pressure and have my weight checked etc etc… this drug should be monitored every 30 days until you are off of it.

There is no magic to health and staying healthy except for good work by you. Simple. No your body and limitations. Telling your self that a pill will fix you, is just another problem you must fix. Your car doesn’t fix itself you fix it. Your plumbing is clogged…you fix it. You’re sick, over weight…you fix it. Some one may assist you but you still pay the bill spiritually.

P.S. The government is not responsible either nor is MacDonald’s. This pill did not fix me but it sure as heck helped after my thyroid was remove and I was on the wrong thyroid medication. Yet, I managed it even when I started to go a bit out of my mind. It does do that. So does sitting at home watching re-runs of “Cheers” or to getting exercise or not being active in the smallest way. You want results. Just do it. Be responsible. Been there in more ways I care to write about. Just take care of yourself and don’t ruin what helps other people because you can’t be responsible for your own actions. Like yourself. Get healthy and it becomes easy when you do it yourself with the truth and a leg up from others if need be. Thank you,
