I think we all agree that Hollywood is a place rich with fantasy and ideas. Many of the biggest stars live in the hills nearby, like Beverly Hills. Many of the ideas coming out of Beverly Hills have a lot of entertainment value but that doesn’t mean you should take them seriously. Take the Beverly Hills diet for example. Here is a diet rich in fruit but lacking in sound ideas about weight loss. Think about it, if weight loss were really so simple, it would be no problem for anybody to drop as many pounds as wanted just by eating fruit. Nevertheless, this fruit-based diet sounds good to some people so you may run into some happy statements by those who managed to lose weight by sticking to this eating plan.
There are three ideas behind this diet. First it claims that papaya softens the fat. Second, pineapple is suppose to burn it off and third, watermelon is suppose to wash it out of the body. Unfortunately, thse concepts haven’t yet to be proven in a scientifically sound manner. While grapefruit does have a positive effect on the sugar absorption system, it doesn’t burn fat outright. The only thing that burns fat is the effort of movement, and that means exercise.
According to the actress Judy Mazel, founder of the Beverly Hills Diet, it is possible lose 10 to 15 pounds in 35 days. And since the founder claims that eating different types of food together is one of the causes behind weight loss, the Beverly Hills diet focuses on eating a single type of food for a whole day. For example, one day you eat nothing but melons, while the next day it’s all grapes.
A big problem with this diet is that it is really boring to eat one type of food all day.
The average dieter has too good a chance of getting bored and start dreading the coming of the next day. This diet is more of a quick fix than it is a long-term eating plan. It should not be pursued for more than a month because fruits alone can’t provide your body with all the minerals and vitamins it needs to stay healthy.
By restricting your food to just fruit you open yourself up to malnutrition and diseases. The fast loss of weight usually means that some of that weight will be muscle mass and water, which means that some of the fat will stay in place. It also means that if you start gaining back weight, you will simply be replacing muscle mass with fat. In the long run this will do you a lot of harm.
The worst part of the Beverly Hills diet – diarrhea. Eating nothing but fruit will keep you in a near constant state of diarrhea. All in all, this is not a good diet. Poor access to crucial vitamins and minerals and a lot of water and muscle mass loss is definitely not a good way to lose weight.
