Allergy shots and Neti pot
Date: 2/8/2012
Hi, I was recently diagnosed with a number four allergy to grass, weeds, trees house dust and dust mites. Over the last year, I have developed a post nasal drip, congestion and dark circles. My doctor has recommended allergy shots once a week for two years. Will this help fade my dark circles? I am also using a neti pot, will this also help in fading dark circles?

Tara

AskDocWeb: If your dark circles are the result of sinus congestion then the shots should help, likewise with the neti pot. Congestion in the nasal passages can increase the pressure on your blood vessels causing darkness to appear. Relieving that congestion could improve things.

Eyebags since high school
Date: 4/25/2012
I have always had eyebags since I was younger, but I didnt realize it more until highschool was when my eyebags are really bad. I tried everything you can naturally to get rid of it, but I recently thought that could it be a vitamin deficiency? I also found out by reading this that the cause of my eyebags could be that I have always had trouble breathing through my nose, I never noticed it until you said this. I breathe through my nose but I feel more comfortable breathing through my mouth. here is a picture:

What do you recommend?

Brian

AskDocWeb: You might check with a dermatologist or ENT (Ear Nose and Throat specialist) for an evaluation. They may be able to tell you if there is some physical defect that might be correctable that would make a beneficial difference in appearance. We would do that before consulting with a plastic surgeon.

Bags and dark circles caused by stress
Date: 4/7/2012
Hi. I recently went through a lot of stress and because of that bags and dark circles were formed under my eyes. I was wondering is that permenant ? or is it temporary? What can i do to get rid of them?
Mark

AskDocWeb: If the eye bags were caused by stress they may or may not be permanent. It depends in part on whether or not you are genetically predisposed to them. If the eye bags were caused by stress then there are three main ways to deal with that.

1. Learn new ways to cope with the stress. This can include things like listening to music, meditations, talking to a friend about your situation, talking to yourself in a mirror, improving your diet, practice deep breathing, laughing more, and exercising more. If you had some stressful circumstances that caused you to be sleep deprived for an extended period of time then returning to a healthy sleep schedule could get rid of those bags and dark circles.

2. Change the circumstances that cause the stress. For many people, stress results from applying short-term solutions to long-term problems. Those problems then tend to occur again and again. Ask yourself what you can do to prevent a reoccurring problem from happening again. Finding long-term solutions to problems is a great way to reduce stress and improve the quality of your life.

3. Remove yourself from the stressful environment. Sometimes the emotional cost of a situation is just too high and you need to leave. Although this is often a last resort, it is helpful to know that it is an option.
