Subj: Left eye doesn’t track properly
Date: 10/31/2006
I am 55 years old and just got contact lenses. I have been wearing glasses with no problems for about 27 years. However, with the contacts, my left eye doesn’t seem to be working in conjunction with the right one. The lens fits perfectly, and the vision from it alone is fine. But when I use the two eyes together, I feel disoriented because the left one doesn’t seem to be tracking properly. Would your program help? Thanks.

Ann

AskDocWeb: It’s not our program, Ann, but we do enjoy talking about it. Problems with binocular coordination (how the eyes work together) and tracking can be very disorienting. Conditions caused by muscular problems like this can be improved by doing eye exercises.

Subj: Re: Vision for Life Trials
Date: 1/8/2007
Hi, I am wanting to know if the results of the trials on the Vision for Life program are available. Thank you.

Percy

AskDocWeb: Not enough people were interested in doing a study so one wasn’t done. Remember this isn’t our product, we just wanted to find out how well it works.

Subj: White circles under eyes
Date: 1/25/2007
My mom age 76 has large white circles under her eyes. What causes this?

Joann

AskDocWeb: There are several possible reasons for this. If a person has rosacea often they look like they are wearing a pink mask over their face, 2 white circles surrounding the eyes and pink everywhere else. Using too much makeup or concealer often causes white circles under the eyes because of the Titanium and Zinc oxide. White circles under the eyes can also be an indication of intolerance of dairy products or it could just be a superficial fungus or eczema. (See Eye bags)

Subj: Horrible vision
Date: 1/26/2007
I have horrible vision and so I am looking at starting to improve my eyes myself. My eye doctor doesn’t really believe in being able to improve your own eyes though, so I did my own research. One thing I heard on the Internet is that those who wear contacts and/or glasses, should go without them for a few hours each day and gradually increase the time. Is this true? Or will this only strain my eyes and make them worse?

Bertha

AskDocWeb: The reasoning behind the idea of going without them for a few hours each day is that there is no development without demand. It’s like exercise, you start slow for a short period of time and gradually build up your strength and stamina. This will only strain your eyes if you overdo it. If that happens, it is a sign that you are trying to progress too fast, just shorten the workout.

Subj: William Bates
Date: 4/27/2007
Thank you for the information. I learned nothing about William Bates in medical school, and have heard his work denigrated since then, though, as you say, it is logical that eye exercise should be of benefit to vision. I have done theoretical work (in progress) on how what we see affects us, and posted relevant diagrams on Myspace. Please give me some feedback if you have the time.

Subj: Weak eye muscle
Date: 5/21/2007
Hello. I have been having trouble seeing out my left eye as it is weak. As I have gotten older, it is becoming progressively worse. I can not read or even barely focus with it. I went to the eye doctor who explained to me that I have a weak muscle and there is absolutely no surgery or glasses that will help me at all. He said that my eye will be like this forever. Is that an accurate statement? I am 34.

Reign

AskDocWeb: There is a difference between a weak muscle and one that is damaged. If your muscle is not damaged then it can be improved with appropriate exercise.

Subj: Bags under my eyes
Date: 6/6/2007
I’m hoping you can help, I have bags under my eyes, they not dark, but light, lighter than the rest of my face, it looks like I have been wearing sunglasses in the sun, which I haven’t, there is like pigmentation around it.

Jamie

AskDocWeb: The least expensive and easiest solution would be to wear makeup and a concealer. There is a new type of makeup called permanent makeup, which may be worth considering. A joker in the back said to tattoo it but we don’t recommend that.

Subj: Double vision
Date: 7/14/2007
I have double vision in one eye after PRK surgery. Did you find that exercises would help correct this?

Dianna

AskDocWeb: No, eye exercises are not appropriate after PRK surgery (PhotoRefractive Keratectomy), and we do not recommend doing eye exercise until your eyes have had a chance to heal. Double vision and ghost images are both long and short-term complications of PRK. It generally takes a couple of weeks just for your vision to begin to settle down from PRK and few people experience 20/20 vision during that time. Small fluctuations are likely to occur during the first three months and smaller fluctuations can occur for up to one year.

Subj: Dark circles under eyes
Date: 7/15/2007
My mother and I do not get “dark circles” under the eyes like most people, we get a dark crease from the inner corner of the eye, diagonally from the inner eye out to the cheek. Normally the creases would appear when I was very tired or crying, or having an allergy attack … but they would disappear after a day or two. However, after age 35 and a few stressful weeks involving alot of crying, the “dark creases” did not go away. They could not be concealed using make-up because they made a deep “indentation” in the skin.

On my 37th birthday I went to a licensed cosmetologist for a facial, for the purpose of getting rid of “brown spots” (like pregnancy mask) that appeared on my cheeks. Light dermabrasion, and a skincare regime that included Murad products immediately improved the appearance of the dark creases under my eyes. After the facial, the deep lines on my cheeks that were there for two years, were nearly gone. Twice-daily cleansing my skin with a cleanser on a light facial scrub sponge, followed by Murad’s toner and “combination skin treatment” … appears to “plump” my skin uniformly and “fills out” and lightens those dark creases under my eyes. I have not been using this skin regime for very long. It appears that I must cleans and treat the skin twice-daily to maintain the improvement. Applying “Preparation-H” under the eyes is a rumored “beauty pageant” technique for dark circles or under-eye puffiness. However, the product isn’t intended for use near the eyes, it smells bad, it never worked for me, and I’ve yet to see anyone who actually TRIED it say that it worked for them. Allergy medications have always cleared up the eye-puffiness I get from allergies from dust, pollen, mites and animals.

Subj: Low vision people

Can the program help with low vision people like me?

Otis

AskDocWeb: The only way to find out is to try it.

Subj: Available treatments?
Date: 7/20/2007
My daughter is 7 years old. Recently we got it checked her eye sight which shows that she is only having cylindrical number -3.00 and -3.25. And doctor told that her retina is very weak. So pls help me out in this, any treatment available?

Rekha

AskDocWeb: To find out what treatments may be useful for her specific condition, take her to an ophthalmologist.

Subj: How long to improve vision?
Date: 7/22/2007
Would like to know, how long it takes to improve vision using eye exercises.

Balamani

AskDocWeb: That varies with the individual but several people have reported an improvement within two to three weeks.

Subj: Strabismus in right eye
Date: 8/28/2007
Hi, have perfect vision but have strabismus in right eye, turning in. From childhood now 27. Squint alternates, if using right eye, left turns in and up. What treatment is there? Will exercises help?

SBI

AskDocWeb: It sounds like you have a muscle control issue and might benefit from learning new ways to use your eyes. Can you turn your head to the right while you move your eyes to look to the left at the same time, and vice versa? What happens to your squint when you do this? If you give the exercises a try let us know if they help.

Subj: A dark circle
Date: 9/5/2007
I sleep 6 hours everyday, I have a dark circle. What will I do? Even, I sleep enough, there’s still dark circle.

Poypoy

AskDocWeb: Some people just have dark circles under their eyes and all you can do is to experiment to find out what might work for you such as cucumber slices on the eyes, wet tea bags or creams that will make them appear lighter.

Subj: Preventive eye care
Date: 11/3/2007
Why do people go to the dentist before a tooth ache but only go to the optometrist after they can’t see. There is preventive eye care and it should start at age one. Check for a College of Optometry or the phone book for a preventive vision specialist.
