Subj: Expert witness
Date: 1/3/2011
I am seeking an expert witness or opinion on false positive results for the presence of THC in Urine, as a result of using Hemp seed oil and Naproxin, to be presented as defense testimony in court.
Stanley
AskDocWeb: An expert witness is someone who can provide unbiased and accurate information in a way that a jury can understand. In this case an expert witness is a qualified forensic toxicologist who can perform an independent review of your data. A forensic toxicologist can evaluate the data, procedures, and records to interpret the test results.
When selecting your expert witness, ask for a résumé and determine if the expert’s qualifications are adequate for your purpose. Some of the things to look for in an expert witness are:
- Experience in a lab performing the analyses in question
- Education that directly relates to the issue in question
- Membership in relevant professional organizations
- The number of times the expert has been qualified in court, and in which field
- Experience using the analytical instruments involved in the analyses, interpreting the results
- publications in a peer-reviewed journal, and special qualifications or honors
It is vital to your case to get someone that can effectively communicate. Evaluate whether your expert witness can express an opinion that is easily understood by the jury.
Subj: Plan B morning after pill
Date: 1/4/2011
Can taking a plan B “morning after pill” cause any false positive results on a 13 panel drug test?
Morning after pill
AskDocWeb: No birth control pill has been reported to cause any false positives on a urine drug test that tests for drugs of abuse.
Subj: Positive for amphetamines & methamphetamines
Date: 1/4/2011
I had a hair follicle test. I came back positive for amphetamines & methamphetamines. I do have a prescription for adderall and was just within the 90 days my doctor changed my medications from Ritalin to Adderall. I also take OTC medications. I just don’t understand how I was positive for methamphetamines. What OTC medications, energy drinks, other prescribed medications could have made me positive for methamphetamines.

AskDocWeb: You can use this list to check the ingredients of the products you are using in order to locate possible causes.

Linda
AskDocWeb: We don’t have an explanation for that kind of false negative but maybe a reader can help you out.
Subj: Tested positive for Ecstasy
Date: 1/4/2011
I take UA’S as a condition of my Probation. I have not used since April 10, 2010. In September 2010, I tested positive for Opiates, I have not tested positive again for Opiates but my opiate levels are high. Further, since September I have been testing with a high level of Ecstasy. Recently, I was 20 points from having a positive result for Ecstasy. I have not used any drugs outside of what I am prescribed, caffeine and nicotine. My current medications are: Strattera Capsule 80MG Daily Vitamin Tablet Cilalopram Tablet 20MG Atripila Tablet 600/200/300MG Ribasphere Capsule 200MG Enbrel Injection 50MG/ML PegaSys Injection 180MCG/0.5ML Fluocinonide Cream 0.05% Desonide Cream 0.05% Do you know of any reason I should be experiencing high levels of Ecstasy? Any help you might be able to provide would be helpful! Thank You,
Jeffrey
AskDocWeb: There are over 50 substances that have been documented to cause false positives for Ecstasy but none of what you are taking is on that list. However, that doesn’t mean that your test result was NOT a false positive. The only way to know for sure is to get a confirmation test from an independent lab.
Subj: Tested positive for benzodiazpiams
Date: 1/4/2011
My son tested positive for benzodiazpiams. he is currently taking welbutrin, vistaril, atarax, buspar and abilify. Will any of these or combination of these cause a false positive?
Trisha
AskDocWeb: Sorry Trisha, none of those have been found to cause a false positive for benzodiazepines.
Subj: Tested positive for benzodiazepines
Date: 1/4/2011
I tested positive for benzodiazepines on Dec 17th my GS/MS level was 290ng/ml. Problem is I have not been taking benzodiazepines. I was on various meds at the time. I was taking Vestiril, Rondec Dm, Zyrtec, fluticasone, valerian root, chantix, and the week before I was on a promethezine/Codiene cough syrup. Could any of these tested that high for benzos?? And would I have tested clean 10 days later on an another GS/MS test??
Shawn
AskDocWeb: None of your medications have been reported to cause any problems with urine drug testing. However, both valerian Root and its extract are reported to cause false positives for Benzodiazepines (Ref: 36).
Subj: False positive of oxycodone
Date: 1/4/2011
I just had a false positive of oxycodone. I take hydrocone 10 mg & zanaflex 4 mg & sometimes advil. Can you please tell me why oxycodone would show up in my UA when I haven’t had a percoset in over 5 years? Thanks,
Cassie
AskDocWeb: Hydrocone is a common misspelling of Hydrocodone, which may show up as a false positive for oxycodone (Ref: 41).
Subj: Positive for meth
Date: 1/5/2011
I take vyvanse and had to take a drug test and it came back positive for meth. What else could cause this they said it wasn’t the vyvanse!! confused about what I may have taken don’t want to lose my job over it.
Paula
AskDocWeb: We have heard of Vyvanse causing a false positive on a pregnancy test but not a test for drugs of abuse. You might check through this list for other possible causes. There are quite a few listed for meth. By the way, Vyvanse is an amphetamine and some of the cheap drug tests do not make a distinction between amphetamines and methamphetamines.
Subj: Methyldopa
Date: 1/5/2011
I am an employee heatlh nurse. Employee taking Methyldopa for hypertension. Is there any possibility of having a false positive urine drug screen for amphetamines while taking this medication?
Shannon
AskDocWeb: We have only one report of Methyldopa (Aldomet) causing a false positive in drug screening tests, however, this drug does have many features similar in structure to an amphetamine. It is similar enough to raise the possibility that a screening assay might pick this up as a false positive. However, we are still looking for documentation on this.
Subj: Anefrin nasal spray
Date: 1/7/2011
Can Wallgreens anefrin nasal spray (oxymetazoline hydrochloride 0.05%) nasal spray produce a false positive alcohol urine test? I’m currently doing diversion classes for a pending DUI/DWI. Thanks!
Katie
AskDocWeb: While Anefrin Nasal Spray does contain some benzyl alcohol it seems highly unlikely that it would show up on a urine drug test.
Subj: OTC medicine?
Date: 1/7/2011
can over the conter medicine and your own medicine that you get by your doctor cause a false positives on a drug test and wht those the clinck that test you said that it can’t happen thank you
Richard
AskDocWeb: Some over-the-counter products have been reported to cause false positives. The ones that we have been able to find good references for are listed here.
Subj: Testing problems
Date: 1/7/2011
Hi, I enrolled into a substance abuse program back in October as per a judge handling my court case. Since being in the program I have given 2 urine sample (one for my assessment and one in November). Just recently my counselor said a urine sample I gave on 12/20 came back positive for cocaine. I’m in the program for alcohol and have NEVER tried cocaine. On top of that I swear on my kids I haven’t given a urine sample since November. The date the lab has is off by a day to the paperwork my program submitted. Two guys who did give a sample the same day as me have openly said I did not pee on that date. The people who run the program do not care about what I have to say and say either I’m lying or the lab made a mistake and I can pay $200 for a hair test. This place does not make you sign for urine samples and has no surveilance cameras as evidence. If I did pee I would have no problem paying the $200 for a hair test and then taking it up with the lab
Help
AskDocWeb: One of the conditions of participating in a substance abuse program is that you have to go by their rules. It is not surprising that they do not care about what you have to say. The objections of the participants have often been found to be an attempt to cover guilty behavior. If you want to complain about their program you can do that but it will not prove your innocence. In order to do that it sounds like you will have to pay the $200 for a hair test.
Subj: Lisinoprill?
Date: 1/7/2011
Can lisinoprill 10mg fail a drug test( blood preasure)
Andrew
AskDocWeb: Lisinopril is in a class of medications called angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It works by decreasing certain chemicals that tighten the blood vessels, so blood flows more smoothly and the heart can pump blood more efficiently. It has not been reported to cause a false positive on urine drug tests.
Subj: Overdose of Celexa?
Date: 1/7/2011
My daughter took an overdose of Celexa. She went into seizures and the ER gave her Ativan, Versed, Levoquin. She showed positive for Bensodiazipines (of course) but also showed positive for Cocaine. This was only a Rapid test without difinitive results sent for No chain of custody was done. She swears she has never used nor even seen cocaine as a nurse in a job where random drug screens are frequently done we believe her. Could the heavy dose of Celexa (handful of 20 mg tabs) some how???
Dsurratt
AskDocWeb: We were unable to find any indication that Celexa might cause a false positive for cocaine, and that includes an overdose.
