AskDocWeb: What about it?
Aleve?
Date: 12/20/2011
I have been on probation and been given random drug screenings for the last few weeks. The first test given a few weeks ago came back inconclusive and then the second one came back positive for everything. The next week I came in given another one and it came back positive for cocaine, but I don’t do anything! I have been taken the generic form of aleve. Can that make a faulty drug test? My freedom is riding on this one.
B.N.
AskDocWeb: Aleve has sometimes shown up as marijuana on urine drug screens but not cocaine. There are a few other possibilities so check the list.
Why did this happen?
Date: 12/22/2011
I tested positive for thc & cocaine. I drink alot of green tea with matcha and take a prenatal vitamin every day. I peed in cup that had the test results attached to the side of the cup. Then they took that cup to a lab where it tested positive for THC & cocaine… when I don’t even use cocaine? however, I did smoke pot 20 days prior to taking the test. but this was my second test. the first test I accidentally dropped the cup in the toilet & it showed positive for opium only but no thc… why did this happen?
Janis
AskDocWeb: Dropping the collection cup in the toilet invalidates the test due to probable contamination. We can only guess why the second test showed cocaine. Have you checked the list of possible causes for a false positive?
Tested positive for HEROIN!
Date: 12/23/2011
I am a cancer patient and my dr prescribes me 8mg dilaudid, I misplaced my meds, that and my pressure pills, I was given drug test by pain management dr and he called today & said I tested positive for something other than what is prescribed to me and he said HEROIN! I am positive I have NOT used heroin, but I did take my morphine sulfate which was also prescribed to me bout a month ago to try cause they wanted to see if I could get relief from a longer pain medication so I wouldn’t have to take so many dilaudids! I am really upset bout this cause like I said I would NEVER use heroin! Could the use of my morohine sulfate allow me to fail for heroin? Thank u for any info u cam share on this matter! Greatly appreciated!
Kris
AskDocWeb: Morphine sulfate has been known to show up as opiates on urine drug screens but not heroin. If you are taking antibiotics then that is a possibility. Here is a list of other possible causes for a false positive for heroin on urine drug tests:
- Acet-AM (Theophylline Calcium Glycinate)
- Amesec
- Bronkaid
- Bronkotabs
- Cold remedies with dextromethorphan
- Cough suppressants with Dextromethorphan (DXM)
- Dextromethorphan (DXM)
- Dristan Cough Formula
- Ephedrol, Ephedra (Ma Haung)
- Estasule Minus
- Hold Cough Suppressant
- Morax
- Nyquil
- Quadrinal®
- Quelichine
- Quelidrine
- Quibron Plus
- Robitussin DM
- Romilar
- Silexin
- St. Joseph’s Cough Syrup
- Tedral
- Trucal
- Tussaminic
- Tussinic
- Vicks Cough Syrup
- Vicks Formula 44M
You should know that the results of the test become a part of your medical records so you will probably want to get a confirmation test. That way you will have documentation of the false positive. If you don’t contest the results, that is the same as an admission of guilt. Your medical record may have an impact on your future employment and insurance costs as well as your future treatment options.
They gave the job to someone else
Date: 12/25/2011
Was all set to start a new job and just waiting for the drug screen to come back. I do not even drink alcohol, let alone use illegal drugs. But they gave the job to someone else because I had a “positive” drug test. I didn’t even get a chance to ask to re-take it. I take 2 preventive asthma inhalers, one is a corticosteroid, and a rescue inhaler. I also take ibuprofen and Flexeril for fibromyalgia pain. The test was supposed to control for my meds. Obviously, said control does not work. What do I do the next time I am asked to take a pre-employment drug test?
Ellen
AskDocWeb: It seems that your options depend on where you live because State laws vary on drug testing. If your employer did not verify the results of the drug test with a confirmation test then you may have a claim against them for lost wages. You would have to check with an attorney to find out for sure. Note that we are not attorneys and this is NOT legal advice.
So far, the only option to protect yourself from that type of situation is to go to your own doctor and get tested the same day. If your independent drug tests are clean then you have a better chance of contesting a false positive test result from an employer. Again it depends on your local laws.
Positive for “it”
Date: 12/26/2011
I have never heard of this drug before but a urine test I took for my pain management doctor came back positive for it. I am on Duragesic patches 25mmg every 48 hrs, Roxycotton 15mg 3 a day as needed, Nuvigil 250mg 1 a day and Ritalin 10 mg 2 in the am 2 at noon and 1 at 4pm a day. Could any of these caused this because my doctor says they will not see me if it showed up again but another question is does this drug take longer than 29days to leave your system thats how long its been since the first test.
Amanda
AskDocWeb: We need to know the name of the drug that you tested positive for so that we can answer your question. You know, the that one you never heard of… Also which drug would you like to know how long it takes to leave your system?
Tested positive for marijuana metabolites
Date: 12/26/2011
My husband fell at work. We went to the emergency room. His back was hurting really bad they started an IV and gave him morphine 4 mg. then ondansetron (zofran) 4mg hydromorphone (dilidid).5 mg than about 30 minutes later hydromorphone (dilidid) 0.5 mg and methyiprednisolone sodium 125 mg. ok his daily medicine is Lipitor 40 mg Lisinopril(prinivil)20 mg daily metroprolol succinate er 25 mg. Paxil 20 mg daily cyclobenzaprine 10 mg 3 times a day for muscle spasm. Omeprazole for heartburn sometimes clonazepam to help sleep and Motrin and alieve for sore muscles.
Anyway his boss had him take a 6633n SAP 10-50 gc/ms drug screen post accident. He did. And a week later he got a call from the doctor saying he tested positive for marijuana metabolites. Everything else was negative?? He doesn’t smoke pot or does not do illegal drugs. Can the test be wrong? Wouldn’t the morophine be in it? Why marijuana?? Please help no one believes us when we say there must be a mistake. He has been fired and denied workers comp. we r going to lose everything we have six children he supports and he can’t even get unemployment because he can’t work.
Judy
AskDocWeb: We would like to help but as far as we know, once a test has been confirmed by GC/MS there is nothing you can do about it.
VPX REDLINE False positive?
Date: 12/27/2011
I was just wondering if VPX fat burner would cause false positives. I test a couple times a week. Here are its ingredients. Caffeine Anhydrous, Iphoric Potent Methyl B-PEA Matrix, N-Methyl-B-Phenylethylamine, R-B-Methylphenylethylamine, HCL, Thyromimetic Activity Stimulator, 35-Diiodo-L-Thyronine 33-Diiodo-L-Thyronine NorEpiphex a2-Andrenergic Blockade Complex NorEpiphex M-MAOxidizor-I Barley(Hordeum vulgare(bud[std. hordenine HCl]
Daniel
AskDocWeb: We don’t see anything in those ingredients that might cause a false positive on a urine drug screen. However, a lot of “dietary supplements” show up on a urine drug test as a “clouding agent” which makes it appear that you are trying to trick the test. We are not saying that your fat burner is one of them but that can be as bad a false positive.
