False positive of THC?
Date: 4/23/2012
Will aciphex and ibuprofiin cause a false positive of thc?

Joe

AskDocWeb: Aciphex may cause a false positive for THC but we aren’t sure what ibuprofiin is. If that is a misspelling of Ibuprofen then yes to that also.

Feeling hurt and mortified
Date: 4/23/2012
I am on numerous medications for various health problems. Nexium, Hydromorphone, Lorazepam, Fentanyl, Benadryl, Lisinopril, Levothyroxine, Premarin, Melatonin, Generic Fioricet, Cymbalta, Amlodopine and Mirtazipine. In the last couple of months I have had to take witnessed urine tests because of the new federal regulations. The first test showed cocaine, I took a second witnessed test the next month that showed positive for cocaine and pcp. My doctor then did a urine and blood test within 1 week of the second test and those both came back negative. I have NEVER touched cocaine or pcp.

When I went to the doctor this month he told me that if I had another positive result this month that he would not be able to prescribe me anymore pain medications when I am due for refills. I have the police coming to my house to swab for drugs and if that shows any then we are bringing in a drug dog to find where the supposed drugs are. I am horrified that my name is now connected to cocaine and pcp. The ONLY drugs I use are the ones my doctor prescribes and I use them AS prescribed. After having the same doctor for over 30+ years I am now being doubted by him, which leaves me feeling very hurt and mortified. Legally it is very difficult to prove that you are NOT doing drugs. It seems that it is easier to prove that you ARE doing them. What can I do to restore my good name?

Barb

AskDocWeb: If you can get your test results sent to an independent lab for confirmation and the results come back negative then your doctor should begin doubting the urine test instead of you.

Positive for marijuana?
Date: 4/23/2012
I just had a urine test and it came back positive for marijuana. I have bronchitis and just started takin amoxicillin, benzonatate, and albuterol along with my diabetic medicines and insulins and norco….will any of these cause my results to come back positive?

Miss Independant

AskDocWeb: We have 4 sources that say those with diabetes may get a false positive urine test for marijuana (THC) as well as amphetamine, cocaine, ecstasy, meth and opiates (See references 3, 16, 20, and 21).

Lodine
Date: 4/23/2012
I am in a bit of a situation. I am a recovering alcoholic and drug addict still on probation. My doctor recently put me on lodine for knee problems. I had a drug screen last this past Saturday and I came up positive for marijuana. I haven’t used in 99 days. If you could tell me where you got your information regarding the false positive, that would be greatly apreciated and help me in my dire situation

Mike

AskDocWeb: The data on Lodine comes from three sources:

  1. Book abvout the drug testing industry called Ur-Ine Trouble (The link goes to Amazon for details and reviews)
  2. Toxicology Lab Technical Brief from Dr. Joseph Graas, Ph.D. published by Medical Assisted Treatment of America, a non-profit organization: Drug Tests
  3. Dr. Martin S. Spiller, DMD in Townsend, MA. He has a page about local anesthesia causing false positives but he keeps moving it around so you may have to search for it: http://www.doctorspiller.com

PCP and phencyclidine
Date: 4/23/2012
lamotrigine 100 mg I have recently taken a hair Follical test on 04/11/12 and the results came back on 04/19/12 saying that I tested positive for PCP and phencyclidine 462 pg/mg what does that mean I know I have not taken any drugs that are not prescribed to me?

Rachel

AskDocWeb: Pg/mg means picograms per milligram. Levels of phencyclidine that range from 300 to 500 indicate low or recreational use. Did they do a Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) test to eliminate false-positive results due to cross-reactivity?

Severe heartburn
Date: 4/23/2012
Hi!! I have been on probation since January of 2012 and I drop urine weekly for probation cause I’m on electric monitoring, anyways my tests have all been negative, but today, 4-23-12, I tested positive. The only thing I have changed is I started taking Zantac 150 twice a day for a week for severe heartburn. I was not arrested, but I started calling Walgreens with questions. Can I take Omeprazole, like the pharmisist says, if not, what can I take for severe heartburn without testing bad?

Matt

AskDocWeb: Unfortunately proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) like Omeprazole have also been known to show up as false positives on urine tests. Ideally if you can get a GC/MS confirmation test done on one sample to establish a history of getting this false positive it may help with all future tests.

CPS problems
Date: 4/23/2012

Please help.

Onesadlady

AskDocWeb: Please see the link for “What to do if CPS workers are investigating you” on page 169. There is some good advice there.

Requesting a blood test
Date: 4/24/2012
I got a false positive today at adult probation in media, pa. I came up positive for Opiates when i have not used any in at least 4 months. I am going to the hospital first thing in the morning and requesting a blood test!

Candice

AskDocWeb: Good for you Candice! It doesn’t make sense to let a false positive stay on your record, especially when it can cause so much trouble later.

bennidryl/Benadryl (Diphenhydramine)
Date: 4/24/2012
Hi, I was taking high amounts of bennidryl and had a seizer from it wile in the hospital I had a fals positive for coke, meth, pcp, and a couple other things I have NEVER and would never do any of these things can the high amounts of bennidryl give a fals positive for all these things? Please help!

Alisha

AskDocWeb: Benadryl (Diphenhydramine) has been reported to cause false positives for benzodiazepines, PCP, and tricyclic antidepressants but not meth, coke, or other things. It sounds like you need some additional testing to find out what’s going on.

Tested positive for opiates and cocaine
Date: 4/24/2012
I just tested positive for opiates and cocaine on a urine test. I have never done cocaine and it has been over a year since taking opiate for pain. I do take a sinus/allergy meds otc and use a prescription nasal spray, would this cause a false positive in my testing?

Tetitia

AskDocWeb: Some nasal sprays and sinus/allergy meds have been reported to cause false positives for amphetamines and ecstasy but not opiates or cocaine.
