Can predinisone cause false positive for Drug test using Enzyme Mediated Immuno Assay?

AskDocWeb: Prednisone is not listed as a known cause of false positives for anything on EMIT tests (Enzyme Multiplied Immunoassay Technique).

Ventolin inhaler

I recently had a positive urine drug scrren for alcolhol however i do not drink at all the only thing new to my regimin is the bentolin inhailer. I am a gastric bypass patient and jave had aeveral problems with medications breaking sown in my system. Could this inhaler have done this? My # was 30

AskDocWeb: Bentolin is a common typo for Ventolin. According to some Illinois criminal defense attorneys, the active ingredient in Ventolin is albuterol, which is an alcohol type compound. Three alcohol groups are in the albuterol molecule, which could make a breathalyzer register positive for alcohol. (Source: http://www.dialdui.com/chapter4/ethanol-and-interfering-substances.html)

Your “30” number doesn’t make sense because that is beyond the limits of what most breathalyzers register. It would seem more likely that it was 0.30% but even that would be beyond the test results expected by someone taking a breathalyzer test after using a Ventolin inhaler, which would be around 0.14%.

Does tramadol show up on drug tests?

Does tramadol show up on drug tests? it was prescribed to me for a severe burn i got from a motorcycle. I got drug tested for a job today and if I do end up failing it for that..Im not sure what to do because i threw my bottle and papers away not knowing a job would call and offer me something. If I do not have the prescription will I not be able to get the job? Could i call the hospital I recived it from and ask for the prescription numbers? How long is it in your system for? Im about 5’7 and 145 p. Thank you.

AskDocWeb: Copies of prescriptions are typically available from the pharmacy that dispensed the medication. Ultram may be detected for up to 14 days after you discontinue it. However, employment drug tests typically don’t test for Ultram and it doesn’t show up on urine tests for drugs of abuse.

False positive for morphine

I’m in the marine corps and i got a false positive for morphine. i have beed dealing with medical issues for the past year and was prescribed and taking percocet during the time of the test. now i may be kicked out of the marines for abusing drugs, which i do not do.

AskDocWeb: It is very important to find out if the original test was confirmed by additional testing. If you do have a false positive then a GC/MS confirmation test will come back negative and you should be okay.

Percocet is a combination of acetaminophen and oxycodone, neither of which has been reported to show up as morphine. The Marine Corps policy is ZERO TOLERANCE for illegal drug use. Any Marine who tests positive for illegal drug use will be charged under the UCMJ and processed for separation immediately.

Mystery overdose

I have a question that is really getting to me. A month ago i started going to a pain specialist(due to mva 3 yrs ago). The day after the appointment i had to be taken to the e.r. by ambulance. i was unresponsive to questions, disoriented, and in and out of consciousness. the e.r. dr. did the usual battery of tests to find the cause. the next day i was told benzodiazapine was the reason for an overdose. it was in my system and the counter-action med they administered was for that. the meds i was given at dr. the previos day were ultram 50mg(4xdaily), Neurontin 300mg(3xdailu) and baclofen 20mg(2xdaily). The only one i had taken the day i got sicl was the baclofen. i had taken it that morning ang had just taken the second dose. i DID NOT take any other drugs! i did not take any adivan or valium. it realy bothers me that it is on the medical records that i had an overdose to something i dont even take. please help me figure out this mystery!

AskDocWeb: The first step would seem to be a confirmation test to find out exactly what was in your system on the day you were admitted to the hospital. Unfortunately that test needs to be on the original sample, which may or may not be available.

Borderline positive for THC

I came up borderline positive on a drug test for thc the last time i smoked pot was over 2 months ago would this have any effect on that outcome

AskDocWeb: The metabolites of marijuana are detectable in the urine for up to fifteen days for the casual consumer and up to 100 days or longer for a regular cannabis consumer. One of the characteristics of marijuana testing that causes confusion is that THC levels do not decline in a linear fashion. During long periods of abstinence you can actually test positive even after a series of negative tests.

Tested positive for benzo

I took a zertec-d on saturday and just today had a job interview & tested positive for a benzo? I asked her what a benzo was & she said it could be a type of allergery meds,then followed with what meds I take & followed that w a 2nd test & they had me to write down my meds…

I recently took a drug test for my company and failed! I am currently on oxy ir15’s and was taking perc 10’s and oxy 10’s. I tested positive for hydrocodone which i know i have not taken since 05 by perscription i am taking otc allergy meds too and was taking cymbalta 60 mg’s to my knowledge on hair tests they will not show as a specific drug can show something is in there and i know it can be broken down to the oxy or hydro can you help please to find out on what i can do to get my job back please

AskDocWeb: It is our understanding that if employers use the results of a urine test as a reason for not hiring you then they must do a confirmation test or the reason is not valid and they may be at risk for a lawsuit. In one case a Florida woman was awarded $859,000.00 because a business withdrew a lucrative job offer on the bases of her urine drug screen results, which they failed to confirm.

Positive for marijuana

I take Prilosec, Mobix, Estradiol, Aleve and Lisinopril on a daily basis. On occasion I take Xanax. I was recently drug tested through the hospital and was found positive for marijuana. Can any of the meds I take cause a false positive as I DO NOT smoke marijuana? Thank you.

AskDocWeb: Yes, Prilosec and other PPIs may test positive for marijuana (See reference: 37).

Positive for benzo

I tested positive for benzo at time of my daughters birth. The only thing i took the whole pregnancy was zyrtec, my pre-natal vitamins and Tylenol. I requested my medical records and today they came in showing the Benzo positive but the specific drugs for benzo were all negative. They also gave me Nubain, oxytocin(pitocin) and penicillin by IV before taking the urine for the drug screen. Could any of these this have caused a false positive? My daughter was also tested and she was negative.

AskDocWeb: None of the medications that you list are known to cause a false positive for benzos, nor are the pre-natal vitamins a possible cause. Was the test confirmed by GC/MS?

Alcaine eye drops

My husband had a drug screening done at work, and it came up positive for cocaine. He used alcaine eye drops. Could that drug show up as cocaine?

AskDocWeb: The active ingredient in Alcaine eye drops is Proxymetacaine hydrochloride. Despite the “caine” in the name it is not known to show up as cocaine on a drug test. The “caine” part of the name refers to the numbing effect, which is somewhat like the effect of cocaine, not the source of the drug.
