Positive for hydrocodone

I am prescribed oxycodone. Drug urine showed up positive for hydrocodone. Was.in an accident a.few.days before doc appointment and given a shot of dilaudid and phenergran. Could this have caused a false positive?

AskDocWeb: Those medications could cause a false positive but it wouldn’t be for hydrocodone. Patients on Oxycodone often have small levels of hydrocodone in their urine, as oxycontin and sometimes oxycodone have up to a 1% impurity of hydrocodone. The only way to know for sure is to send it off to an outside lab that can use chromatography to separate out the drugs.

Strenuous exercise?

I ceased using cannabis five months ago. After 60 days of no use, I was still not only showing positive in urine lab tests, but I elevated from 54 ng to 93 ng. I was sent to jail by the drug court as a result. A month later, after my levels consistently going down as ususal, I showed another elevation, this time going from 32 ng to 44 ng. I was sent to jail again by the drug court and subsequently, mandated to go to inpatient treatment to the tune of $15,000 that I had to pay out of my own pocket. I have determined that these incidents were due to strenuous bicycling, however, the court refuses to believe it.

The next time this happens, I am looking at prison time, even though I am truly innocent of any use. I have not used in five months now and it wasn’t until after 100 days that I showed negative on a lab test. With all this said, now that I show negative, is there a chance that I will show positive once again if I do strenuous exercise after five months of abstinence? I need to get back on my bicycle and rid myself of non-positive thoughts in my head, not to mention that I now need to lose some weight due to not riding in two months? I need your take on my situation… Thanks much

AskDocWeb: Theoretically any activity that stimulates the body’s use of fat cells could release the metabolites of THC causing a positive drug test. If strenuous exercise is causing the positive drug tests then you need to decide which is more important to you, staying out of prison or strenuous exercise, at least until you get past the required drug testing.

Fired because of a drug test

I just recently had a positive drug test. I don’t abuse drugs. However, I take aleve to releave my headaches, hemp organic protein shakes, sometimes lean shakes 2times daily and a over the counter sleep aid and nause tablet called phenegran. I was fired as a result but was never asked about any over the counter meds that I take on a regular basis. Can you tell me if this is why I tested positive on my test?

AskDocWeb: Without knowing the name of your hemp shake there is no way to check that out so that is an unknown. However, according to a Toxicology Lab Technical Brief from Dr. Joseph Graas, Aleve (Naproxen) may test false positive for THC, Marijuana.

Since they didn’t ask you about what you were taking you may have a case for a lawsuit but you would have to check with a lawyer as laws vary from State to State.

Tegretol or Epitol?

AskDocWeb: Epitol is one of the brand names of Carbamazepine, which has been reported to sometimes test false positive for Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCA) on urine drug screens (Reference: 46).

Other brand names of Carbamazepine include Biston, Calepsin, Carbatrol, Equetro, Finlepsin, Sirtal, Stazepine, Telesmin, Tegretol, EPITAB XR(Pakistan) Teril, Timonil, Trimonil, Epimaz, Carbama/Carbamaze (New Zealand), Amizepin (Poland), Carzine (Kolkata), Mazetol, Tegrital, Tegrita (India), Karbapin (Serbia), Hermolepsin (Sweden), Degranol (South Africa), and Tegretal (Chile, Germany).

Dipstick drug test

I have been taking zantac 150mg and 800mg ibu profen. i went to take a dipstick drug test from probation. she said i was postive for opaties and slightly meth. i have not comsumed any other pills at all. i told her to send it to the lab cause there is no way!!! can u explain to me why i became postive?

AskDocWeb: Sorry Dennis, the drugs you mention are not known to cause a false positive for opiates or meth. However, the dipstick drug tests are not perfect so they do have an error rate. A certain percentage of test results show either false positive or false negative. Anyone who suspects that their test result is a false positive is encouraged to get a confirmation test, preferably conducted by an independent certified laboratory. For a list of SAMHSA certified laboratories see page 185.

I keep testing positive

First off….I did get a dui and that is why I have to be tested….I have had gastro problems for over a yr and finally saw a doctor and discovered i have illius and diverticulosis…i was taking aleve a nexeum generic bentyl miralax and align…I have quit taking all meds and for some reason i keep testing possitive for thc very low levels but the testing shows that it isnt due to any of my meds i dont smoke thc nor am i around those that do…any ideas anyone…

Interstitial cystitis?

I have the bladder problem interstitial cystitis can it cause meds. not to show up in a drug test(ua). I have had two show up neg. that when they take blood its always there. Please help.

AskDocWeb: That is puzzling but it does raise a few questions. Did the same person do both of the UAs? If so, have they checked their procedures for human error? Have they checked to see if anyone else had false negatives with that batch of tests?

L carnitine

I took probably 10 L carnitine tablets over the course of the past week. On Friday of that week, I submitted a Urine Analysis for a DWI case. Will it raise red flags or flat out cause me to fail my drug test?

AskDocWeb: Acetyl-L-carnitine is a molecule that occurs naturally in the brain. L carnitine may cause a false positive on some types of drug tests but not for any drugs of abuse on urine drug screens.

I was wondering if talking claritin reditabs everyday for over a month along with amoxicillin for 8 days what would be the level of my drug screening for having a false positive for amp/met and how long will it take for the claritin and amoxicillin to get out of my system? Thanks for your help

Inconsistent positive for methadone

I go to PM and was given a UDS and tested positive for a bit of methadone which i have never touched in my life. My doc gave me my narc scripts anyway. they wanted me to take another dip test, so i did. they gave me a paper that said i inconsistently tested + for methadone. what the hell does that mean? All i take is oxycodone, oxycontin, diazapam, and flexeril. I fell off a 3 story building onto big sharp rocks and got shingles. 2 different people did the test. I would like to know what is an inconsistent + for methadone mean? does that mean that one was positive and the other was negative? Why would they give me my scripts if i tested positive? PLease let me know if you know, thanks.

AskDocWeb: Because drug testing procedures vary so much across the country there is no way we could say for sure what they mean by inconsistent positive. It does sound like one test was positive and the other negative but to find out for sure, you need to ask those doing the test what that means.
