Fentynal
9/13/2012
During a recent urine test (aug.2012)- Fentynal showed up. wondering why? only prescription for 10 patches was written in Nov.2011 but ALLERGY developed and documented by urgent care, and Primary Physican. All patches were destroyed in Nov. what would cause this false positive?
Shirley
AskDocWeb: If you were using Fentanyl patches and you were drug tested, and Fentanyl showed up, how is that a false positive?
Used synthetic urine
9/13/2012
I recently took urine test and used synthetic urine and put in a little bit of norco into it. My goal was to test positive for norco as I am perscribed this. However, it came back as failed and the nurse told me that I had drank oxycodone, how could it come back as oxycodone when I put hydrocodone in the synthetic urine?
Aquateck
AskDocWeb: Sorry, this forum is for those who do NOT use illegal drugs.

Dopamite by MHP
9/14/2012
I was wondering if anything in the product Dopamite by MHP will cause me to test positive on a drug test for work. The ingredients are listed below. Thanks! Folate (as Folic Acid) 125.00 mcg 31% Vitamin B12 (as Cyanocobalamin) 100.00 mcg 1667% Copper (as Copper Gluconate) 1.00 mg 50% DOPAMITE Dopaminergic Fat Burning Catalyst 540.00 mg 0% N-Acetl L-Tyrosine DL-Phenylalanine Caffeine Ilex Paraguariensis Leaf Extract Mucuna Pruiens Seed Extract ** 5-Hydroxytryptophan (from Griffonia Simplicifolia Seed Extract) Theobromine Vinpocetine **
Nicolas
AskDocWeb: None of the ingredients in Dopamite are known to cause problems with urine drug tests for drugs of abuse. Dopamite gets its name from its effect on a naturally occurring chemical in the brain known as dopamine, not from anything having to do with dope.
Tested hot for cocaine
9/16/2012
I was recently drug tested as per policy. I am an undercover narcotics officer who has never, ever, used cocaine….but what did I pop Hot for?…cocaine!!! They are ruining my reputation at the very least that I have built from the ground up for 14 years. and as a female to have accomplished what all I have….I was proud of myself daily, but I gave that to God for making me strong enough I drink tonic water daily ( and was so in the testing facility) and had abeen taking strong amoxicillin and Cipro for a SINUS infection.
Devestated Melissa
AskDocWeb: Hi Melissa, welcome. When you recover from the shock a little bit, it’s time to fight for your reputation. There is no reason to accept a false positive test result when a GC/MS confirmation test could clear your name and save your career.
Neurontin (Gagapentin)
9/16/2012
I recently started taking Neurontin (Gagapentin) my M.D told me that it will not interfere with a drug test, but I have been reading a lot on line that tells me it will make me give a false positive drug test, I am in a program that is very strict and no B.S. I am an ex-addict so no one will believe me if I fail a drug test and I tell them it could be from the Neurontin…so my question: Will neurontin cause a false positive, and if it does, and I send it back to the lab will they be able to verify that the it is Neurontin causing the false positive. (I have been clean for over 2 years now, so I am not scared to have it get sent it, I just want to make sure that the lab will definitely be able to tell its a false positive)
Justin
AskDocWeb: Gabapentin will not show up on drug tests for drugs of abuse. The only false positive association we found with Gabapentin has to do with the results of the Ames N-Multistix SG® dipstick test. That’s a test for protein in the urine, which indicates the beginning stages of kidney and cardiovascular diseases.
There is always a small chance of a false positive urine drug test for a number of reasons. That’s why sending the sample to an outside lab for confirmation is typically recommended.
Positive for cocaine
9/17/2012
I’ve recently tested positive for cocaine, never have I ever used this drug. I’ve been prescibed percocets, vicodin and also morphine.. Will these drugs all combine give a positve drug test of cocaine?
Laurel
AskDocWeb: They can show up on a urine drug test but not as cocaine. Vicodin is a combination of acetaminophen and hydrocodone. Percocet is a combination of acetaminophen and oxycodone.

Why are professionals exempt?
9/18/2012
Why are professionals exempt from drug testing? I recently worked with an Engineer who designed a lab. His sequence of operation caused dangerous conditions to personnel. Why is he exempt? Why is anyone above the law?
Dale
AskDocWeb: Drug testing is legally required in certain industries and some states define certain jobs for mandatory drug testing but that varies from state to state. Are you sure that he is exempt? You might want to check with your State Attorney General’s office.
False positive for morphine?
9/18/2012
I recently took a 10 panel drug screen and morphine showed up, i have a prescription for hydrocone. I was wondering if that caused the false positive for the morphine?
Robert
AskDocWeb: Hydrocone is a common misspelling of hydrocodone. However, that is not on our list of possible causes for a false positive for morphine. A confirmation test would seem to be needed because there are about 50 other possibilities.
Type 1 diabetic
9/18/2012
My husband is a type 1 diabetic. He is not in control of his numbers. He used crack in the past but has not used any crack or cocaine in the past 6 months. We used the medimpex 5 panel urine drug test and he has tested positive 2 weeks in a row for cocaine. Is his diabetes causing the positive tests? Should he take a blood test?
Robin
AskDocWeb: Although diabetes may cause a false positive for cocaine on the 5 panel urine test, the fact that he has used cocaine in the past makes that suspect. Additional testing is the only way to be sure one way or another.
Zanax?
9/18/2012
Can 1 zanax cause multiple false positives (Oxazepam & Temazepam & Alprazolam) on a urine drug test? I took 1 zanaz 2 days before the drug test & tested positive for all 3! The only other medications I’ve taken is Ambien & sinus meds.
Kathryn
AskDocWeb: Oxazepam is a metabolite of valium but not Xanax (Zanax). Xanax has not been reported to cause any kind of false positive on urine tests for drugs of abuse. Xanax (alprazolam) is a benzodiazepine.
Blood test?
9/18/2012
I wrote about the type 1 diabetic. Is blood test a more accurate test? I hate to pay for lab work that is not more accurate than what I am already using. If not, what test do you suggest?
Robin
AskDocWeb: If his drug test has legal implications, getting a separate blood test may be a waste of time. The fact that a blood test is more accurate does not invalidate the original test. The original sample may have to be confirmed. Federal guidelines say that any result that comes up non-negative is to be further tested by a SAMHSA authorized laboratory. If Medimpex follows federal guidelines the label on the test device will tell you what to do if a test produces a preliminary positive result. It may say something like the following:
“This test is only the first-step in a two-step process for determining the presence of drugs of abuse. If you get a “preliminary positive” test result when you use this product, we recommend that you send the urine to a certified laboratory, which can test the urine again with a more accurate and reliable test. The second test is called confirmation testing, which is most often done using a test called gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. We recommend that you consult with your doctor or another qualified professional to help you understand test results and to address problems such as drug use.”
For a list of SAMHSA certified laboratories see page 185.
