AskDocWeb: Sorry Victoria, you can not get clean in just one week. It sounds like it is time to consider your treatment options.
Pre-employment drug screen tomorrow
9/24/2012
I was admitted into the hospital last week because of a migraine and also something wrong with my eyes. I was given pain medication in my iv and also Ativan before they did an MRI. I have a preemployment drug screen tomorrow( less than one week since hospital) and I wanted to know if I will passus drug screen and if not will hospital give me list of medications I was given so that I can give list to drug testing facility.
Michelle
AskDocWeb: Well getting the list of drugs from the hospital may take a lot longer than 24 hours but they will provide it eventually, although you may have to contact the individual doctors. Whenever possible it is always better to present your list before or during the testing rather than afterword. Pain medication often shows up on drug tests for drugs of abuse. Good luck!
Xanax and somas not showing up
9/25/2012
My mom is a cancer patient, small cell carcinoma of the brain, lung, and lymph nodes. She is 6 years in remission. She has been going to the same pain clinic for 6 years. They r trying to say her xanax and somas are not showing up in her urine tests. They put her on probation and may fire her this time. She is on 60mg of furosemide and spironolctone every day plus 60mg klorcon, levothyroxine, prevastaton, prevacid, vitamin b12, fish oil, ester c, super b, magnesium, llysine, plavix, gabapentin, 800mg ibuprofen, spiriva, nasonex, and one more inhaled I can’t this.k of its name. Can any of these cause her xanax or somas to not show in a urine test?
She will die if they take her pain meds away. She can’t get out of bed without them. The cancer isn’t her only issue. She has bad knees and has had almost every bone in her body broken throughout her life.. she won’t survive if they fire her from her clinic. She takes her meds the right way every day so i don’t understand why these r oming out negative. The pain meds do show but not the xanax or somas.
Jec
AskDocWeb: There are a number of possible reasons for this:
- The drug was not taken as prescribed.
- Drinking an unusually large amount of water can dilute a test sample below the amount needed to show on a drug test.
- Some people metabolize drugs exceptionally fast and if the last dose was taken too long ago it might not show up.
- A small percentage of drug tests are faulty.
- If the drug has a very short half-life and if the last dose was taken too long ago it might not show up.
- Many bad tests are caused by human error.
Unfortunately many people suffer from the failed “War on Drugs” and a number of them come (unjustly) from pain management clinics.
Norco false positive for propoxyphene
9/25/2012
Thank you. All my tests came back negative. They said the Norco may have caused the false positive for propoxyphene. Thank you for the helpful information.
John
AskDocWeb: You are welcome, John. And thank you for letting us know how it turned out. We appreciate the feedback.
Medication for my teeth

Daquon
AskDocWeb: Ibuprofen appears to be a common cause of false positives for marijuana. Fortunately the GC/MS confirmation test can tell the difference.
Failed for benzos
9/25/2012
Today my boyfriend took a urine drug test for probation. His drug test said he failed for benzos. He has congestive heart failure and takes the following prescribed medications Furosemide, Warfarin, Enalapril, Klor-Con, Carvedilol, Mag Ox, Pravastatin and baby aspirin. Could any of these meds caused a false positive on his drug test? He isnt a drug user of any kind other than his prescriptions. Can you please give us some insight on why he failed for benzos? Thank you!
Shawna
AskDocWeb: Our database lists about 60 possible causes for a false positive for benzos but none of his meds are on that list. Of course that doesn’t mean that he is guilty of anything. A false positive could also result from a human error made in testing or rarely, a bad test kit. If he hasn’t used benzodiazepines then getting a GC/MS confirmation test should prove his innocence.
Positive for thick
9/26/2012
I’m on tegratol zoloft hydrocodone. I tested positive for thick I don’t smoke how is this possible
Dennis
AskDocWeb: Welcome Dennis. You’ll have to explain what “thick” is because sometimes we just don’t get it. (Pun intended)
Tested positive and then negative for cocaine
9/26/2012
I have a client who tested positive for cocaine (urine screen). She had been seen in ER post rape, and was given rocephin IM, azithromycin, ogestrel, wellbutrin, and effexor. She also is on adderall and doxycycline (for acne). She states she has never used any illegal drugs. She had a hair test done 3 weeks later which was negative. Could the urine screen have been a false positive? Thank you.
JR
AskDocWeb: Although those meds are not known to cause a false positive for cocaine that doesn’t rule out the possibility of false results. It takes from 5 to 10 days after exposure to cocaine for it to be detected by hair testing. Since the hair test was done 3 weeks later, we would strongly suspect that the urine screen was a false positive.
Positive for benzo
9/26/2012
Had to take a drug test for work i have taken hydrocodone 10 soma for several years now and last three months been taking phenetermine my test come back postive for benzo? the other meds didnt even show up i took the soma before i went to bed and the diet pill when i got up then few hrs later my pain pill then i had the drug test done. does any of them fall in the benzo catogory? what can i do i cant lose my job? so i may lose my job and what will happen with my doctor visits every 3 months can he just refuse to see me. i take a drug test everytime i go to the doctor have always been fine. please help
Presley
AskDocWeb: Hydrocodone can test positive for opiates but not for benzos. Likewise, Phentermine has been reported to show up as a false positive for amphetamines or ecstasy on urine tests but not for benzos. If you really didn’t use any benzos then getting a GC/MS confirmation test should come back negative. That would be proof that the first test was a false positive and save your job.
Dosage for false positive
9/27/2012
I was wondering since aleve and ibuprofen can cause a false positive thc result what would have to be the dosage to show daily usage of marijuana, i take 1600mg a day of ibuprofen for back pain, and have taken 2 aleve in place of my ibuprofen when it wasn’t available… and i dont smoke.
Sara
AskDocWeb: Sorry Sara, that kind of information is generally not published because it could aid those abusing drugs. You can thank the “War on Drugs” for the censorship.

Dears, i want to ask about OxyElite pro, Does it cause HCV ab test false? If yes for how long should i stopped before test?
Adham
AskDocWeb: The only ingredient in OxyElite pro that might have caused a problem with drug testing was 1,3 Dimethylamylamine, also known as DMAA. However, that shouldn’t be a problem now, but check the ingredient list on the product you have on hand.
In April (2012) the FDA announced a ban on 1,3-Dimethylamylamine/DMAA containing supplements including USP Labs JACK3D and OxyElite Pro, Gaspari Nutrition Spirodex, Nutrex Research Lipo 6 and Hemo Rage.
Why did they ban it? DMAA has a number of health risks including:
- Dehydration
- Depression
- Headaches
- Heart Attack
- Increased blood pressure
- Lethal exhaustion
- Light-headedness
- Liver and kidney failure
- Loss of consciousness
- Racing heartbeat
- Stoke
- Tremors
- Death
Those sound like pretty good reasons to ban it.
Pepper spray?
9/27/2012
Can pepper spray cause a false possitive breathalyzer test? I was arrested for suspect dui and was greated by police with a weapon pointed at my head , so i froze and the officer sprayed me and the shover me to the groud and sprayed me again , i also have hep c and cirhosis of the liver and when i fell i landed on my right side onto the hard pavement.
Robert
AskDocWeb: Yes, according to an article on the North Carolina Wesleyan College website, mouth contamination by pepper spray is a common DUI defense. Some brands of pepper spray use alcohol-based propellants.
