How much does it take?
10/11/2012
how much primatene or bronkaid does it take to test positive for meth

Mitchell

AskDocWeb: An exact amount cannot be determined because there are too many variables; your BMI, your metabolic rate, the specific test being used, etc.

Failed on THC and opiates
10/11/2012
Hi, I have recently taken a drug test and failed on thc and opiates. I dont smoke canabis but i take prescribed medication for a bad back they are lodine, ibuprofen and solpadol could this be the reason why i have failed.

Dougie

AskDocWeb: That is one possible explanation. There are several sources that say Ibuprofen can show up as a false positive for THC (References: 1, 14, 16, 18, 20, 26, and 29) and 3 that say Lodine may do that (References: 3, 18, and 20).

According to Redwood Toxicology Laboratory Inc. (RTL), which is one of the nation’s premier forensic drug testing facilities, Solpadol may test positive for opiates (References: 33).

Will THC show up?
10/11/2012
I am supposed to go to get my blood/ urinanalysis done in the next few weeks and just 2 weeks ago was stuck in an hour long car car with 4 people smoking weed non stop… I also am an avid Advil user due to the fact I play rugby and hurt myself a lot. Will THC show up in my tests because of the Advil and second hand smoke?

Emily

AskDocWeb: We would expect you to test true positive for THC after spending an hour in a car with 4 people that were smoking weed nonstop.

Drug tests for gabapentin
10/12/2012

Michael

AskDocWeb: Sorry Michael, out database has no listing for anything that would show up as a false positive for Gabapentin.

DOT drug screen
10/12/2012
Dot drug screen I was positive for thc I saw on your site protonix ibuprofen relafen may cause false positive. I take those. The Dr that contacted me did not ask for my prescription said if I wasn’t taking marinol I’m positive I told him maybe hemp elixir Dixie dew drops could have done positive but was guarenteed to have o.ooo thc. I request second test.

I called dr next day after reading your site gc/sm can differentiate protonix and thc? Dr said he did gc/sm on first test to reconfirm and that second test probably the same. I paid certified crl lab to do 10 panel quick and lab next day after original dot results. quick test is clean waiting on results. my wife tested as well as she used the elixir and was clean so it’s not that. How can this be possible to have thc with gc sm confirmation on original test and what can I do I don’t use drugs.

Doug

AskDocWeb: It sounds like that doctor is, well, GC/MS tests are used to confirm not “reconfirm” the urine test. And saying that the second test is “probably the same” is a prediction about a future event. You may need to ask a Lawyer about how to best respond to your psychic doctor.

False positive for benzodiazepines
10/12/2012
My minor child has been having drug tests through the court because he was busted for marijuana. He has suddenly tested positive for Benzodiazepine. His reaction to it makes me believe he did not do any benzos. He is under doctors care right now for a couple of things. He has had pain at the end of urination and blood in his urine. His primary said no infection in his urine however 3+ blood and a lot of tissue.

His meds this week have included: Azithromycin 250mg pak tab, Phenazopyrid 200MG, SMZ/TMP DS 800-160 tab, Rocephin 250 mg IM, Melatonin, Benadryl, Excedrin, Ibuprofen, Nyquil and Azostandard prior to getting the phenazopyrid. Could any of these meds have caused my child to have a false positive on benzodiazepines?

Kelli

AskDocWeb: It is possible that the Benadryl (Diphenhydramine) might show up as a false positive for benzodiazepines (Reference 45). To be absolutely sure you would need to get additional testing, preferably a GC/MS confirmation test from a certified lab. For a list of certified laboratories see page 185.

I have a false positive question
10/13/2012
I am currently taking ZXT Bee Pollen Tablets for weight loss – not ZXT Gold just the ZXT. I have read a few reviews indicating there are hidden ingredients such as sibutrmine and phenolphthalein. I have to take a drug test for my work – if by chance these two items are in my vitamins will it cause me to test positive? Could I maybe stop taking them a few days before test and have enough time for it to get out of my system. Any suggestions to not fail drug test?

Priscilla

AskDocWeb: Sibutramine (Meridia) is a prescription drug that may test positive for amphetamines. The washout period varies with the individual and can range from 2 to 4 weeks. The washout period for phenolphthalein ranges from 9 to 13 days. If you don’t want to fail a drug test then avoid anything that “might” cause you to fail.

Nasal spray
10/14/2012
I use nasal spray on a regular basis because I often have problems breathing. I too came up positive for THC. I also run a studio and pretty often artist smoke weed while they are recording. I have read several pages that say you can not test positive for THC from second hand smoke. Is it possible that my frequent use of my nasal spray has caused the positive test?

Chris

AskDocWeb: Not according to our data, nasal spray has been reported to show up as morphine, amphetamines and ecstasy (MDMA) but not THC. Of course that doesn’t rule out the possibility of a false positive test result. To do that you need additional testing, typically by GC/MS confirmation. However, if your test result was caused by second hand weed smoke then that confirmation test might be a surprise.
