AskDocWeb: Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) are often prescribed to treat acid reflux disease and have been documented to sometimes test positive for marijuana (THC) (Reference 37).
Morphine did not show up!
12/3/2012
Hello I take Morphine, percocet, acetazolamide, lasix, klonopin, motrin, neurotin, I had a urine screen and tested positive for alcohol which I do ot drink also the morphine did not show up at all can you tell me why?
Tonya
AskDocWeb: One possibility is that the cutoff level for positive on your test was unintentionally (or ignorantly) higher than what was intended, therefore a negative result is being detected. If this is the case then you may be positive, just not positive enough to register on that particular test. You see, a test designed to make sure that a patient is using their medication as prescribed has to have a specific cut-off point. The test would be useless if a patient could sell half their dose to others and still test positive.
It may help to explain to your doctor that you want to do whatever you can to resolve this matter and make certain they understand you are distraught over this. Ask if they would do a blood test or hair shaft test and use the results to declare your urine test as incorrect. A blood test will show what is currently in the body and a hair shaft test can show that you have taken your meds in the past ninety days. Either test may be a good choice to prove their innocence for those who have false negatives.
Can you be fired because of herpes?
12/4/2012
It’s not drug related but what are possibilities of a person being fired because they have herpes?
Zenama
AskDocWeb: That depends on what kind of job you have. If you work with food or are in health care industry you might be required to report the herpes, which might be risking your job. However, it is our understanding that in most cases herpes is not a legal reason to fire someone but you may want to ask a Lawyer about that to be sure.
Question about levofloxin, Z-pack and oxycodone
12/4/2012
My fiance just tested a slight half line for cocaine through a stick test from urine he has had three urine test and a swab test in the last week and all came back negative he went today because we are waiting for his urine test to come back from his new pain management Dr so they called his primary to cover him until they got his results. They did the stick without his presence and told him he can longer be seen at this primary. My question is in the last week he has been on levofloxin and a Z-pack also oxycodone 5/500’s would these meds cause a false positive result?
Sue
AskDocWeb: Sorry Sue, while some antibiotics have been documented to show false positive for cocaine on urine tests, none of his medications have been reported to do that. In order to rule out false positives he needs to get a GC/MS confirmation test.
My word against DCS
12/4/2012
I am currently in recovery due to substance dependence. I lost temp rights of my children from DCS. I am in outpatient treatment and get oral swab drug tests a few times a week and they have been coming back a negative and a positive, two tests done by two different people but going to the same place..I take ibuprofen and alot of it. one test out of two two different times this month comes back positive for cocaine. what is going on? at first I thought it was from my relapse in October and that traces might be showing but its been a month and this shouldnt be happening. I have court on dec 12th and need some guidence kn how to talk about a possibe false positive to my lawyer otherwise she wwis going to advise me to go to in patient and I really feel I am doing good minus the relapse. I dont want to luyoose my three children but feel it’s my word against DCS. After reading comments on your website forum I am now convinced that a couple of these screens are inaccurate and that they should be challenged. please help.
Heather
AskDocWeb: To challenge the results of a urine drug test the original sample must undergo the additional testing of a confirmation test. Currently the industry standard for doing that is the GC/MS, which stands for Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry. It is very close to being a perfect drug test.
Tramadol taramadol?
12/4/2012
I drank acai tea one night and took thera flu nighttime cough and cold and I peed dirty for taramadol a day later on a lab test is there any way that taramadol would come up .. its a false pos from something I just can’t figure it out what would cause a false pos for taramadol?
Lilbiton
AskDocWeb: Tramadol is sometimes misspelled as taramadol. The only reference we found regarding something showing up as tramadol came from the Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Leeds Teaching Hospitals in the UK. They reported that the commonly prescribed antidepressant drug venlafaxine was misidentified as tramadol in confirmation tests by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS). This was a result of the presence of the metabolite O-desmethylvenlafaxine, which has a similar transition to tramadol. It is not clear if the GC/MS test has this same problem. Positive for cocaine
12/4/2012
My brother had to take a hair follical test. He has a lot of back problems and has been on meds for years for it. He takes 10/325 loracet and somas. The loracet should show up for opiods but did not. He was negative for opiods. Instead he showed positive for cocaine at a rate of 6523pg/mg. this can’t be right. I see and talk to him everyday and I would be able to tell if he was that stoned. I would also put him in rehai Do you have any suggestions? He did receive 2nd and 3rd degree burns over face, neck, chest and arms. Would this have anything to do with it? This will cost him his child and is killing my mom!
Bellaann
AskDocWeb: Sorry Bellaann, we have no explanation for you. Neither loracet nor soma would show up as cocaine on a urine drug test for drugs of abuse.
Positive for amphetamines
12/5/2012
A recent urine test came back positive for amphetamines even though I didn’t take any. The VA claims that the levels were well above their cutoff which is in place to prevent false positives. My housing is VA subsidized and I could easily lose it over this. I take Wellbutrin 200mg daily, Lamotrigine 200mg daily, trazadone 50mg daily (at bedtime) and occasionally dyphenhydramine 25mg (at bedtime.) I know some of these meds are on your list but could taking all of them cause the levels to exceed those cutoff levels in the test? Thanks!
Kevin
AskDocWeb: Our list of substances that might cause a false positive applies only to initial urine tests. It does not apply to confirmation tests. If they haven’t done a confirmation test then getting one may save your housing so find out if they did or not.
