Factors in a positive result

I just recently had a saliva test and it came back postive for meth which i dont touch nor have i ever done a drug in my life of 34 years.. I am on a horomne pill i had a partial hystercotomy. also i have been put on blood pressure and welliburn for depression.. are any of these a factor in a postive result?

AskDocWeb: Not for meth but there are about 50 possible causes for a false positive for meth, most of them are allergy, sinus, and cold medications. If you think that your test result is a false positive then we suggest you get a GC-MS confirmation test to rule out false positives.

Change in Lithium dosage?

Can a change in Lithium from 600mg to 900mg cause a false positive for Benzos?? My friend is on that and just had that change. he is also on seroquel. He had a drug test the other day and they said it was positive. And he is freaking out because he has not done anything. Any info could help thanks!

AskDocWeb: Lithium interferes with birth control pills and may cause a false positive pregnancy test but it does not show up on urine tests for drugs of abuse.

Adderall

I applied for a flight attendant position and was recently offered the job. Would I not get the job if I tested positive for amphetamines? I was recently going to school and working full time and was having a hard time focusing with time constraints so I went to. The doctor and talked to him about my problems. Then I went to the psychiatrist. I. Was then prescribed adderall. school and I do not use it on a regular basis.

AskDocWeb: Adderall is a combination of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. As long as you have a doctor’s prescription for the Adderall and tell them that you are taking it you should be okay. It is helpful to be aware that false positive drug screens do occasionally occur, and to know what to do if that happens. Find out what their procedure is for handling a positive test result on the initial drug screen. Do they confirm them using GC-MS testing? That is the only way to rule out false positives.

False positive for cocaine?

Can any of the following drugs give a false postive for cocaine during a skin & clothing screening for drugs? Xanax, Phenergan, Keflex, lidocain with epi, Vicodine, Arnicare.

AskDocWeb: None of those have been documented to give a false positive for cocaine.

Geranium flower extract

Geranium flower extract how long does it stay in system I tried a new weight loss plexus and now I found out that the weight loss accelerator can cause false positive for methamphetamine. It has the geranium flower extract in it and now I am worried because I am on pain management and it could get me into trouble with the pain clinic how long until it is out of my system?

AskDocWeb: The compound in geranium flower extract that causes the false positive is methylhexaneamine. It has a half-life that ranges from 4 to 12 hours. As a general rule it takes about 5 half-lives for the body to eliminate a drug from the system so you may expect it persist up to two and a half days.

False positive for THC?

Can risperidone, clonazepam, trazadone, or benztropine cause false positive for thc or anything else?

THC and Federally funded labs

I’ve been having to take UAs recently and a few have came back positive for THC even though I have not been smoking or using marijuana whatsoever. The only drugs I have been taking during that time are aleve, zicam, Zyrtec and Zantac along with over the counter cough syrup. Can any of these substances cause a false positive and what is the likely hood that a test could come back positive in a federally funded lab?

AskDocWeb: It appears that there is a possibility that Aleve (Naproxen) might show up as a false positive for THC (References: 3, 16, and 18). The chances of eliminating false positives at a federally funded laboratory are over 99% if the laboratory is SAMHSA certified (listed on page 185). Uncertified labs that don’t maintain the high quality standards for certification have higher error rates.

Using synthetic pee

My sister has been using synthetic pee when my parents ua her for weeks and now she just got a dirty for just opiates. How is that she does heroin and Meth and it wasn’t even her pee?

What if Benny was a female and she had just had unprotected sexual intercourse with a male who smoked crack, lots and lots o’ crack (32x the LOD for COC and metabolite). Intercourse was vaginal, he ejaculated into her vagina. She then goes to (with this couple I’m assuming Parole, not pre-employment) test. To make it interesting we’ll even say it was an observed urine test. She sits on toilet, maybe a Kaegel to get the pee flowing, and she urinates in cup while at same time….some of the crackhead boyfriend’s semen and sperm drips into the testing cup. Donor hands observer urine sample, finishes her business, Observer checks Temp, Color, specific gravity and notes on CCF that observation went well and all prelims were ok. Screen test comes back positive for COC. They do GC/MS confirmation and that too comes back positive for COC and Metabolites (because it had already been metabolized by him).

I’m sure eyes are rolling, with a “that’s ridiculous”…..but isn’t the life of the addict ridiculous! And in this case for someone that’s clean, but wanted to make love to her Soul Mate! Seems 100% a possibility! BRAINSTORM: 1)She could offer to give a blood test, in response, but that would be after the GC/MS confirmation came back (2 days)…they would tell her “well your clean now, only stays in blood for 24-48 hrs. 2) She could offer a hair test, which would go back 90 days and overlap the urine test!!!!

Here’s my question: Let’s say there were several episodes of intercourse, both vaginal and anal, and partner ejaculated into both those orifices. Would it be possible for the blood vessels in her anus to absorb the COC and metabolites? Thereby entering into her blood stream, and would lead to a POSITIVE hair test down the road?

Moral of the story: Just like this scenario being a “possibility”, how bad would it have sucked if they came back from that one of those tests and said, “Alright, the blood test you gave us came back NEGATIVE from the lab, sorry for doubting you. I guess you really did decide to change your life around when you found out you were HIV POSITIVE ….and PREGNANT!” I’M WHAT???!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!
