Strattera (Atomoxetine HCl)

Can stratera cause false positive for cocaine

Jesse

AskDocWeb: Strattera has not shown up in our 7 years of research into false positives on urine tests.

Urinalysis tests
Date: 3/1/2013
I frequently have to submit to urinalysis tests whenever I go to a new job site that requires it – which is getting much more frequent these days. I’ve “failed” before for amphetamine which is expected and not an issue as I’m prescribed adderall for ADHD. The latest test I’ve taken was deemed “questionable” by the person who immediately read the results in the field so it was sent off to a lab – This is not all that unusual as its happened before due to the ADHD meds so I wasn’t that concerned about it. The lab said it was “positive” for THC and this is simply not possible unless their urine screens now detect use going back years and I flat out told them so.

Upon further questioning the lab said that their cutoff is 15ng and mine tested at 55ng. I went online to research and it seems a 15ng cutoff level is highly unusual? Seems the norm is usually 50ng and so I’m apparently just somehow 5ng over this “norm”? Upon further researching online, I was quite surprised to find that I’m indeed taking multiple meds and supplements that people claim can in fact and just alone by themselves have the potential to cause false positives (especially considering the small levels/amounts I’m talking about?)
The meds/supps I’ve indeed recently taken that I’m seeing mentioned are: Nexium, Naproxen/Alleve/Ibuprofen/Advil etc, B vitamins and supplements containing hemp seed oil. If I would of known that there was even a slight possibility of any one of these interfering with the “test” let alone that I’ve taken them in combination – I would of certainly discontinued their use WELL before testing – I didn’t even know the seed oil supp I was taking even contained hemp and I really want to choke my health nut/vegetarian cousin for adamantly suggesting its use for my “health” and high cholesterol.
Calling back the lab and after getting a bit of run around, I then informed them of my “research” and was told it was impossible for any of these to interfere with their results – If I wanted to contest the results it was to cost me $250 out of pocket, the same exact sample was to be retested and he’s never seen anyone’s results change when on the rare occasion someone actually did this. I just do not know at this point what to think or do as I’m simply seeing/hearing so much conflicting info. However, I DO know I haven’t smoked in a VERY long time (well over 2-3yrs) due to my career and no longer do so simply because my career is much more valuable to me.

For complete disclosure – Second hand smoke exposure has happened but certainly not to the point where I would believe I actually managed to absorb some. Inadvertently ingesting some is also a possibility I suppose but highly unlikely as I’m pretty sure I would of noticed and would of been extremely pissed at whomever was responsible. My career and reputation is seriously on the line here and I hate to play a “victim” role but I’m feeling like I’ve fell victim to the 21 century witch trials and I’m about to be “burned to the stake”.

Until the managing company reps who oversee this job site get back to me – I’m at a serious loss of options on what I can do except just end up looking like a “doper” with lame excuses. I absolutely HATE being made to feel “guilty” and looked at/listened to with nothing but suspicion when in fact I don’t deserve it. I’m not a choir boy, but I’m certainly man enough to own up to any mistakes/choices I’ve made and I’m not one to hide from the consequences of my actions. I would seriously LOVE to hear your opinion on this situation. Thank you.

Joe

AskDocWeb: Welcome to the new world of unintended consequences of the War on Drugs where you are guilty until proven innocent. Hemp oil as well as over 70 other products are known to show false positive for THC. Like it or not, it is the responsibility of those subject to drug testing to informing themselves about false positives. You can’t do what is needed to defend yourself unless you know what’s going on.

Positive for buprenorphine?
Date: 3/1/2013
I currently take zanaflex for chronic back injuries. Now, while in substance abuse treatment, I keep getting a positive for buprenorphine, despite I have never took it, nor have known about it until last fall.

Alyson

AskDocWeb: We don’t have a listing for any specific product or substance that might test false positive for buprenorphine. Was the test confirmed by GC/MS? If not, we recommend the additional testing to confirm the results, which will reveal any false positives.

Concerned about drug test
Date: 3/2/2013
I am HIV positive and i am taking Biovir (azt+3tc) and Tenofovir (tdf). Should these drugs make a Drug Test urine be false positive? I did my Drug Test pre-employe and now i am concer about it.. I have EVER touched drugs in my life

Lucas

AskDocWeb: Neither of those medications are known to cause any problems with urine drug testing for employment so you should be okay. Remember that on a urine test, false positives are always a possibility so make sure that they note what medications you are taking just in case.

AskDocWeb: You can look them up on this page.

Blindsided by false-positives
Date: 3/4/2013
Clean n sober for almost 3 yrs! Just finishing up probation. Blindsided by not one but two false-positive oral drug screens… With a clean one in between! First positive for hydrocodone, second for morphine, all within 60 days. 2 yrs on suboxone film. Prescribed script ibuprofen (600mg) and HCTZ, both which were increased near this time. Had major cold so took alka seltzer plus, OTC cold meds, Emergen-C, Zinc, Multivitamin. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME LOGICAL EXPLANATION..I AM BAFFLED. Thank you sooo much.

Jenn

AskDocWeb: It is highly unlikely to be the HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide), which hasn’t shown up as any kind of false positive on urine drug tests. However, there is quite a list of allergy, cold, and cough meds that have shown up as morphine. Our database doesn’t list anything that would show up as a false positive for hydrocodone. Of course a small percentage of the quick urine tests are wrong for no apparent reason. That’s why we always recommend getting the test results confirmed by GC?MS testing.

Trazadone?
Date: 3/4/2013
I failed a test for benzos, and i dont take them, could i fail due to trazadone?

Sarah

AskDocWeb: Trazadone is a common misspelling of Trazodone, which is also sold under the brand names Desyrel, Oleptro, Beneficat, Deprax, Desirel, Molipaxin, Thombran, Trazorel, Trialodine, Trittico, and Mesyrel. This is the prescription medication that is licensed for the treatment of depression by restoring the balance of serotonin in the brain. Trazodone has been documented to sometimes show up as a false positive for amphetamine (References: 32 and 57) or LSD (Reference: 47) but not for benzos.

Drug test
Date: 3/5/2013
I took a drug test and it showed up positive for barbituat. I’m on a no carb diet and I drink a lot of teas. But I have to urinate all the time from either the teas or something to do with this diet. My question for you is would anything read a false positive for barbituat? I looked up a little and it says energy drinks can do that. But I haven’t drank any. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

Johnny

AskDocWeb: There are a great many different kinds of teas on the market so if you are subject to drug testing, you have to be careful of the ingredients of any that are imported. There are no specific diets that are known to cause false positives on urine drug tests for drugs of abuse. In rare cases the test itself may be faulty so it is always advisable to get a confirmation test on any positive results.
