Need help to prove my innocence
Date: 4/2/2013
I was Terminated today by my employer for urine testing positive for marijuana when I returned to work after a long term illness, and I emphatically protested and maintained that I am innocent. I was not allowed to present my employer with a list of prescriptions and the copious amounts of supplements that I have been taking for months. I believe that my illness (abdominal, bladder, prostate, and kidney infection, in addition to the prescription drugs and supplements that I am taking) is responsible for a false positive result. Will you please help me with information that could help me prove my innocence when presenting my argument?
Michael
AskDocWeb: In some parts of America you are still considered innocent until proven guilty. By itself, a urine test is not proof of drug abuse. If the employer didn’t perform a confirmation test then you may end up with a nice settlement. We strongly suggest that you consult with an attorney about the options available to you for State where you reside.
Alavert D12
Date: 4/2/2013
I was wondering if alavert d12 shows up on a 7 panel drug screen. i am worried that it will and I go to court tomorrow and have to take a drug screen. Will it make me fail for amphetamines?
Christy
AskDocWeb: Alavert D12 is a combination of loratadine and pseudoephedrine. According to Redwood Toxicology Laboratory Inc. (RTL), one of the nation’s premier forensic drug testing facilities, Pseudoephedrine may test false positive for amphetamines (Reference: 33). Be sure to tell them about everything you are taking, both prescription and over-the-counter products.
Labetrolo?
Date: 4/2/2013
im taking 200mg of labetrolo for high blood pressure and did a urine test for drug. could this medicine make it come back positive for drug?
Sarah
AskDocWeb: Welcome Sarah! We don’t have a listing for Labetrolo. The closest we can come is Labetalol (Normodyne, Trandate). According to IT Laboratories (a certified drug testing laboratory) Labetalol may test false positive for amphetamines (References: 57). As long as you have a prescription just tell them that you are taking it and you should be okay.
Note: Do not stop taking labetalol without talking to your doctor first. If labetalol is stopped suddenly, it may cause chest pain or heart attack in some people.
Synthroid
Date: 4/3/2013
Hi I’m taking half of 125 of Synthroid for Hypothyroidism. My job has asked me to take a U.A., & I want to know if this will cause me to fail.
Ryan
AskDocWeb: No, you can relax. Synthroid does not show up as any kind of false positive on urine drug tests for drugs of abuse.
Phenegan-D
Date: 4/4/2013
can u give me info on Phenegan-D – False positive for Amphetamines, my probaiton officer is trying to say my drug test is pos and Phenegan-D witch im on wont test pos i dont want to go to jail pleas send ansers asap
John
AskDocWeb: This has been written about in a published book (Reference 3), on Drugs.com (Reference 11), OBGYN.NET (Reference 16), and a Toxicology Lab Technical Brief from Dr. Joseph Graas, Ph.D. published by Medical Assisted Treatment of America, a non-profit organization (Reference 18). The simplest solution is not to try to convince your probation officer but rather to get a confirmation test by GC/MS. Seeing a confirmation test come back negative is probably the only thing that would get through to them anyway.
Dimetapp
Date: 4/4/2013
i had a daughter my only daughter taken from me because she had a false positive for meth and she was on her own presciption by her own doctor. this medication was dimetapp i have been trying to find
Kare
AskDocWeb: Several sources say that Dimetapp may show up as a false positive on urine drug tests (References: 1, 3, 11, 16, and 18). Once you know that is possible you may have the option of getting a confirmation test which would eliminate such false positives.
Note: Dimetapp is a brand name of the generic drug loratadine, which is also sold under the brand names Claritin, Alavert, Claritin Reditab, Claritin Hives Relief, Clear-Atadine, Clear-Atadine Children’s, Loratadine Reditab, Ohm Allergy Relief, Tavist ND, Wal-itin, and Dimetapp ND.

AskDocWeb: Chlorophyll refers to any of a group of green pigments that are found in the chloroplasts of green plants. It does not show up on drug tests for drugs of abuse.
Can’t prove my innocence
Date: 4/5/2013
My doctor prescribes me pain medication due to an accident a few years ago I am on Vicodin 3 time a day 5/500 mg. Due to strict DEA regulations doctor’s offices are random drug testing, which I have no issues with. Yesterday I was told by my doctor I had 30 days to find a new doctor because I was tested positive for PCP in my system. I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, I don’t do drugs other than the ones prescribed to me for pain. She would not give me any way of proving my innocence. I asked if I could retake a test she said no, that I might get someone else to urinate for me. There is nothing I can say or do I just need to find a new doctor.
I have been sick and have been taking over the counter meds, my epileptic meds, & my pain meds. I asked perhaps this may have an effect on the test she said there is no way. I would submit to any type of test. I am willing to take a hair follicle drug test. I don’t know if this will follow me around to other doctors offices and then I will not be able to get my pain medications, my pain medications are very important to me I cannot function without them because my pain is debilitating. I would not go back to them but I will not be classified as a drug addict when I don’t do drugs. I have filed a complaint with the Department of Health. I have contacted my sheriff’s dept. to let them know that I was drug tested yesterday and I was tested positive for PCP. I believe that this violates my legal rights they are not treating me for my condition because of this false positive test and they are not even giving me the chance to prove that I am telling the truth. I mean I understand it’s a test but tests can be wrong, in this case it certainly is.
I am contacting anyone that will hear me and perhaps have any advice that they can give me this is not fair now I have to go and look for a new doctor I changed my insurance carrier just so that I can go back to this doctor because I like their practice so much; I am very picky when it comes to doctors. Now they are telling me there is nothing I can say or do to prove my innocence I am a drug addict and that’s that. I didn’t even know what PCP was I had to Google it!!
Sandra
AskDocWeb: We are going to invite you to consider being even more picky, especially when finding a new doctor to prescribe pain medication. Consider asking your perspective new doctor how they handle false positives on urine drug tests and if they allow the option of getting a confirmation test if you contest the results. Most pain treatment clinics have an agreement that you must sign before they will treat you. Make sure of what the procedure is for responding to a positive drug test result. If it doesn’t allow for confirmation testing then you may have a repeat of your unfortunate experience.
