Oxycodone false positive
Date: 5/9/2006
I am a PM patient and have been under the care of the same Doc for 3 years. I am prescribed Kadian 50 mg 2x daily for Spinal Stenosis. I have been tested routinely for all 3 years, never failed one. Yesterday during a routine visit and test, Doc said Oxycodone showed up in my system (urine). I have taken oxycodone before, but not for years. How is it possible to only take Kadian and have oxy show up? Yes, it would clearly show if I took it, but I haven’t so how could that be possible assuming I truly haven’t taken any? My Doc was calm and said false positives occur at times and that it was no big deal. Its a big deal to me though. What do I think? Doc is sending it off to the lab for further testing. I glad about that.

Mike

AskDocWeb: It may be a big deal but only if it is NOT sent out to a lab for confirmation. We agree with your Doc. Urine tests produce more false positives than you might think. Kadian is a brand of extended release Morphine, which is known to test false positive for opiates (Reference: Redwood Toxicology Laboratory Inc. (RTL)).

I have tested as positive for TCH in a urine test. I am very puzzled as to why; I have honestly never taken any drugs, smoked marijuana or even been around it. I’m trying to figure out why this could have happened. I’m 55, recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I take Metformin, Potassium Chloride, Gabapentin, Hydrochlorothiazide, Enalapril, Amldipine, and Biotin. I have not take Advil in over a month. Do you see anything here that would have caused this? It was for a job and they said they are not concerned because it was a trace element, but I am. I want to know how this could have shown up at all. Any help would be appreciated.

Annie

AskDocWeb: It’s a long shot but Advil (Ibuprofen) is known to sometimes show up as a false positive for THC (References: 1, 14, 16, 18, 20, 26, and 29). From what you list, that is the only thing that comes close to explaining your results.

XPS sculpt & motivation light fat burner
Date: 5/14/2006
Hi! I am taking XPS sculpt & motivation light fat burner and I have an upcoming 10 panel drug test. Will these ingredients cause false positives? Proprietary blend 705 mg, sulbutiamine, eurycoma, longifolia 200:1 extract, theobromine PEA, phenylethylamine, hordenine. Second bottle… Propriety blend 500mg yohimbine hcl, synephrine hcl, hordeine, sulbutiamine, phenylethylamine, caffeine geranium maculatum 200:1, 37 dimethylxanthine(theobromine)

Angelica

AskDocWeb: We aren’t sure if synephrine hcl will do this but Neosynephrine has shown up as a false positive for amphetamines (References: 3, 18, and 26). None of the other ingredients in either product are known to show up on urine drug tests for drugs of abuse.

Hydrocodone false positive for oxy
Date: 5/15/2006
I had to take a court ordered drug screen today. It was a reditest panel dip. I take hydrocodone, neurontin, zanaflex, albuterol, and ceterizine. My test showed positive on the opiate column as well as the one reading “oxy” I assume oxy means oxycodone. I absolutley have NOT taken anything other than what I am prescribed. Could the fact that I have taken the hydrocodone for 5 years have caused the false positive?

leah

AskDocWeb: Yes, according to IT Laboratories, an ISO-certified drug testing and toxicology laboratory, hydrocodone may test false positive for oxycodone.

Drug test showed hydrocodone
Date: 5/16/2006
Hi ! My husband is on Percocet 10/325 LEAGLLY and he had a drug test today that showed up hydrocodone and he hasn’t taken any. He is also on Zanaflex for muscle spasms. What would cause the hydrocodone to show up?

Michelle

AskDocWeb: Sorry Michelle, our database does not contain a listing for anything that would show up as hydrocodone. Are they doing a confirmation test?

Date: 5/17/2006
So i started taking cellucor P6 extreme and have found out it may cause a false positive urian test. How long till it will be out of my system?

AskDocWeb: We tried looking up the ingredients but all we could find were the “key” ingredients, not a complete list. Looks like you will have to contact the manufacturer of that product.

How accurate is GS/MS?
Date: 5/20/2006
I’ve been taking Zantac for about 2 weeks, well child protection services came to drug test me because hey got a call I just laughed it off n willingly peed for them, then they said ur positive for meth and removed my kids….. I’ve never touched meth or ANY OTHER drug I am confused I see allll over the web where it can cause false positives but some say the lab gets false positives to. How accurate is this GS/MS machine can it truly weed out the Zantac from meth???? I’m so nervous cause people r saying no 🙁

Zantac

AskDocWeb: The GC/MS can accurately identify a substance in a sample with as little as 10 ppm or in other words, accurate to the third decimal point. The test itself is not so much the problem but rather the use of uncertified laboratories. If the quality control standards of a laboratory don’t meet federal guidelines then you have an increased risk of a false positive GC/MS test. Did they use a SAMHSA certified lab? For a list of SAMHSA certified laboratories see page 185.

Clinic just switched labs
Date: 5/21/2006
Hello, I have been going to a methadone clinic for 9 years and have passed every swab test every month until recently. I get my monthly take homes and because I have failed 2 saliva test they have dropped me to every 2 weeks. I have not taken any drugs or used anything in 9 years. They are saying I failed for Benzos and then for Barbiturates. These test were tested through the lab they previously used for some reason they just switched labs, but the only things I take are sumatriptan, depo provera and Ibuprofen for teeth pain. I take about 1600 mg of Ibuprofen a day. Something is seriously wrong because I do not take anything that would be causing me to fail. Please help me if you can thank you!

Chaundra

AskDocWeb: You may want to find out if the lab that they changed to is certified by SAMHSA. That’s the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. See the answer to the post above.

GC-MS test
Date: 5/22/2006
I have a freind who tested positive for Cocaine metabolite at 3433 ng/ml using a GC-MS test. He was taking Klonopin, Cymbalta, and Loracet 10, and took a Gralise that night to help him sleep with his back pain. He is on a voluntary testing plan and was tested 3 days earlier and 2 days later that were negative. Is this mixture likely to show the positive at that level.

Mike

AskDocWeb: We do not believe that combination of drugs would produce his test result. When they talk about a certain number of “ng/ml” (nanograms per milliliter), that is a quantification of what is actually in the sample.
