False positive pregnancy test

I am currently on Zofran and sucralfate, I took a pregnancy test this morning and it came up positive.. Could these medications affect the results?

AskDocWeb: The drugs you used may not cause false positive result but the kit itself sometimes can sometimes give false positive results. The only medications that might interfere with pregnancy tests would be those that contain hCG such as Profasi, Pregnyl, and Novarel, but only if the test is taken within one to two weeks of using the drug.

Electronic cigarettes

I’ve just started using an electronic cigarette to stop smoking. I bought it from a company called “smoke cignals”. The label on the liquid flavoring states that it contains propylene glycol vegetable glycerine and that it may contain, flavoring, nicotine and alcohol. I take a drug test for alcohol a few times a week and was wondering if inhaling the liquid from the vaporizer would give me a positive result on my test. I would really appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks

AskDocWeb: None of the ingredients in electronic cigarettes are known to show up on standard urine drug tests for drugs of abuse. However, the alcohol tests are very sensitive so whether or not the alcohol would show up is unknown.

Complete shock

Drug test resulted in false positive, complete shock. Having never used any illegal drugs, could the following meds be the cause? Meds are as follows: 5mg Amlodipine Besylate, 12.5mg Losartan/HCTZ, 40mg Lovastatin, 800mg twice daily of Sulfameth/Trimethoprim, Calotren Weight Loss Formula and occaisional Ibuprofen(WalMart Brand). Thank you for your help.

AskDocWeb: The only one of those that is on our list is Ibuprofen. Several sources say that it may show up as a false positive for marijuana (THC) (References: 1, 14, 16, 18, 20, 26, and 29). That happens more often than the manufacturers of the test kits would like. However, it is NOT proof of drug abuse. A positive result on a urine test should always be confirmed by more accurate testing, which eliminates false positive results.

Zantac or Suboxone?

Im working on getting onto the Suboxone program, im currently getting my urine tested once a week. a couple of weeks ago I tested positive for amphetamines and I have never taken anything like that. all I take is Zantac 300mg once a day a 16mg of suboxone a day. did the zantac cause my urine to test false/positive for amphetamines?

AskDocWeb: That is possible. According to IT Laboratories, an ISO-certified drug testing and toxicology laboratory, Zantac (ranitidine) may test false positive for amphetamines. Suboxone would not do that.

Positive for morphine

I have been going to a pain clinic now since 2007 I have never tested positive for any substance abuse. I am prescribed hydrocodocone 30/200 I was on an antibiotic called biaxian would that casue a false drug screen for morphine?

AskDocWeb: Most of the products that cause a false positive for morphine on urine drug tests are those used to suppress cough and allergies. The antibiotic called Biaxian is not known to cause a false positive for anything on urine drug tests for drugs of abuse.

Positive for ecstasy?

I just gave birth to my daughter 6/7/13. The hospital did a urine drug test at birth before i was discharged we found out my daughter had to stay a few more days due to withdrawals from my medication subutex. The drug test just came back today, it said i tested positive for ecstasy my daughter tested negative. I now have DHR taking my baby the only medications i take on a daily basis is subutex, Zoloft, goody powders, anti acid, stool softeners, Benadryl, my inhaler & trazadontrazadonee… Sometimes i take other medications!!! What can cause me to test positive for ecstasy???

AskDocWeb: There are about 70 products reported to cause a false positive for ecstasy, most of them used to treat allergy, asthma and overweight problems. Some inhalers (Vicks inhaler, Afrin) have been noted to show up as ecstasy on urine drug tests (References: 10, 16, and 21). The potential exists for other inhalers to do the same. If you have a false positive then you’ll want to get a confirmation test done as soon as possible to clear your name and get your baby back. The confirmation test has to be performed on the original sample that tested positive for ecstasy, preferably by sending it to an independent certified laboratory. Good luck.

Seroquel?

I am going to a methodone clinic and I have tested positive for benos and I only take seroquel, prozac, sythorid, and estradiol. I do take over the counter stuff like benedreal, caltrate and a woman’s laxative sometimes. Could it be the seroquel causing the false positive. I have read this before.

AskDocWeb: Seroquel (quetiapine) has been documented to sometimes show false-positives for amphetamines (Reference: 48) but not for benzodiazepines.

AskDocWeb: As far back as the mid 1990s, a series of studies done in the U.S.A. showed that eating hemp foods may cause positive urine tests for THC. That includes hemp oil that might be used on salads and hemp seeds that might be consumed as a snack.

Flax seed or oil?

I’m not a drug user other than my prescribed thyroid medicine. I daily use a hair product that has Flax seed or oil in it. For my pre-employment I just had a hair drug test done. I told them of my hair product by Aveda. I was told if any problems they would call me! I HOPE THEY DON’T! Does flax seed or oil affect ones drug testing?

AskDocWeb: You can relax. Neither flax seed nor flax oil would show up as any kind of positive on a urine drug test for drugs of abuse.

ISP alcohol

If I took a half of a dropper 2 times a day of green coffee bean extract would I test positive for alcohol consumption on an ETG test? I am in DUI court and I just realized that the coffee bean extract for weight loss contains 20 percent ISP alcohol.

AskDocWeb: ISP is isopropyl alcohol. According to Urine toxicology Guidelines, just “cleaning the skin with isopropyl alcohol may cause false-positive results.” Consuming ISP alcohol would increase the chances of getting a positive EtG test result.
