Subj: Valium
Date: 7/27/2010
I am taking 2 multi vitamins and hctz, and producing a positive for benzos i have not ingested a valium for ten days.

Adria
AskDocWeb: Valium (Diazepam) is one of the most slowly eliminated benzodiazepines. It has a half-life of up to 200 hours, which means that the blood level for each dose falls by only one half in about 8.3 days. It can take up to 30 days to completely leave your system.

Subj: Positive for meth?
Date: 7/27/2010
I just left my doctors office where he does random drug screenings. I am currently on roxicodone, xanax, Synthroid (thyroid meds for hypo thyroid) Renididine (for heartburn) I also take daily; Centrum, eccanatia, sometimes a water pill. I did take a diet pill called Slim Seduction I bought online for about 3-5 days but this was prob a month earlier. I have heard it can cause a false positive for methamphetamines. Could it really if taken that long ago? I am really curious as to why it showed pos. I have never even tried meth or ever been on any ADHD medication. What could have caused this? I’m embarrassed that it would show positive. Please let me know your thoughts.

Shauna
AskDocWeb: Sorry Shauna, none of what you list has been reported to cause a false positive for meth.

Subj: Positive for THC
Date: 7/28/2010
I recently had an incup drug screen which was read as positive for THC. I do not smoke weed. I do take a myriad of medications to include: protonix, prevacid, prilosec, topiramate, fluoxetine, hydroxyzine, clonazipam, ibuprofen, skelaxin, lidoderm. Can this combo cause a false positive? Also I was negative for benzos. How do I prove I am not using illegal drugs & dispute results?

J J
AskDocWeb: Remember that the urine test is not proof of drug abuse. It only indicates if that is a possibility. The results must be confirmed by a GC/MS confirmation test in order to prove it. To dispute the results, get a confirmation test from an outside lab.

Subj: Zyrtec?
Date: 7/29/2010
I took a pre-employment urine drug screen test. About a week later I got a call from the Dr.’s office that did the testing and was told I was positive for cocaine. I was shocked to find this out because I’m not a user! So I got to thinking about any OTC medications that I have taken lately and I take Zyrtec for my allergies and sinus issues. Could this medication have caused the false positive on my drug test?

Jo Ann
AskDocWeb: Zyrtec-D has pseudoephedrine in it that may cause a false positive for amphetamines but not for cocaine.

Subj: Stackers?
Date: 7/29/2010
does stackers or any of those pills without ephedrine show up on a drug test?

Bobbi
AskDocWeb: No.

Subj: Tested positive for cocaine
Date: 7/29/2010
I just tested positive for cocaine but I don’t ever use it. I am taking a prescription for metronidazole and paroxetine. Also multivitamins, calcium with vitamin D, flax oil, amino acids, and probiotic colon support. Could any of these cause a positive? I also have another question which I feel silly asking but… My sexual partner who I have been with for several years has developed his own cocaine addiction over the past couple of years. We haven’t used condoms in years now. Would his semen contain it and could that make me test possitive?

Siri
AskDocWeb: Both cocaine and its metabolites can be detected in semen so that is a possibility.

Please note that there are health concerns with using flax seed oil

Subj: Tramadol
Date: 7/30/2010
i take 400 mg of tramadol daily for the last 2 years i was tested at work and came up positive for opiates can this drug test for opiates

Tony
AskDocWeb: No, Tramadol (Ultram) is not in the opiate class of drugs. It is not a narcotic drug.

Subj: Positive for pot
Date: 7/30/2010
My husband has been taking indomethacin. He was recently drug tested with urine. He has been getting tested for thirteen years and never had a positive test..he tested positive for cannabinolds during his treatment of indomethacin. My husband and I never ever smoked pot and we are not around people that smoke…can you please email me and let me know if this is possible and if there’s anyway these meds could have made this positive…it is crucual that this is a false positive he can get locked up for this so i am searching everywhere for answers no other way that he could have had a positive other the with this indomethacin. please email we are very afraid and innocent. Thank you and god bless…

Marisol
AskDocWeb: Getting a positive result on a urine drug test can be traumatic and frightening when you are innocent. The best thing you can do (in our opinion) is to refute the results and get a GC/MS confirmation test in order to show that the result is a false positive. Although there are no reports of indomethacin causing a false positive on a urine drug test the positive result could have been caused by something else so consider getting a confirmation test.

Subj: Positive for cocaine
Date: 7/30/2010
I have been on supervised release for over two years and positively violated for cocaine and was entered into rehab and released and have been rigorously following AA/NA and IOP without any relapses. I am now being faced with boundry violations and accountability. As I am dealing with this situation I go into my Parole office and submit a RUT (Random Urine Testing); with me are 4 other gentleman in the same room being tested at the same time. My results come back preliminary positive for cocaine and sent to the main lab for additional testing. The final outcome is stated that it is conclusive that my urine is positive. The situation I’m in is serious and I am facing incarceration and without any doubt I have not been using cocaine nor any drug for that matter.

I work construction and during the past week have been around a gambit of chemicals and materials such as MDF board and Laminate flooring, Latex paints and Silicone based caulks and Grout for tile flooring where I have been breathing in the dust. There would only be two reasons for this positive urine A: my urine was mixed up with someone elses and at that point can a blood or DNA be done to assure it is or is not my urine and B: the mixture of chemicals I worked with have created a false positive and how can I get such verifiable evidence on my behalf for court…My court date is August 5, 2010 and any or all info you can give me will be highly appreciated.. Sincerely,

James
AskDocWeb: All the substances that we have been able to document that may show up as a false positive are listed here.

Subj: Tested positive for marijuana, cocaine, and meth
Date: 7/31/2010
I was given a drug screen by a pain management center. I was taking Lorcet, Lidocaine, Pamelor, per prescription. I told dr. these were minimal at best he advised me to add tylenol(otc), I took ibuprofen instead because tylenol always made my stomach upset as i have a history of bleeding ulcers. I also was taking amoxicillin per prescription for ear infection. I tested positive for marijuana, cocaine, and meth. I was released by the pain center for the results of this test and havent been able to find a dr. to treat me since. I admit, i smoked marijuana to help with appetite and sleep. But, I have never done cocaine or meth. I see some of the prescriptions and otc will produce positive results, but, i would like to know if pamelor will produce any other false results. And, or cymbalta. Thanks.

Robert
AskDocWeb: Neither cymbalta nor pamelor have shown up in our research on false positives. Of course that is not conclusive but we monitor for new possibilities and will let you know if those drugs show up.

Subj: Active acidophilus?
Date: 8/1/2010
I have been taking a probiotic called active acidophilus – 20 for two weeks. I recently joined the air force and had to take a drug test. I was wondering if the supplement will cause a false positive or bring up any question with the drug test. Thank You!

Chelsea
AskDocWeb: There are no reports of that and we are pretty sure that if they caused any problems with urine drug tests, we would have hard about it by now.

Subj: Tested positive for meth
Date: 8/4/2010
I’m on Department of Corrections and just a couple of days ago I tested positive for meth. I’m taking medication called Ranitidine HCL, Promethazine, and Hydrocodone/Acetamin for galstones. Does these medications make a false positive for meth?

Margaret
AskDocWeb: While they have sometimes caused false positives for other things they have not been reported to show up as meth.

Subj: Testing for cocaine
Date: 8/4/2010
If a hair follicle test comes back positive for cocaine, but negative for benzodiazepines and a urine screen comes back negative for cocaine and benzodiazepines. Is this a false positive or could the patient be using cocaine?

Bonnie
AskDocWeb: No, the hair follicle test can detect cocaine long after it is completely clear of the urine.

Subj: Lidocaine
Date: 8/5/2010
I was wondering if lidocaine will show up on a 14 panel drug test as anything besides lidocaine or if it will show up at all? I use a gel that has it in it for an old knee injury. I have a drug test coming up for entrance into nursing school so I was wondering do I have to stop taking it for a while before. It helps a lot after workouts… but I’ll quit using it if need be. I keep finding conflicting answers on other sites and I have a friend that swears it showed up on hers, but I am not sure I believe that is what caused her positive. Thanks,

Crystal
AskDocWeb: There seems to be some antidotal talk about the Lidoderm patch causing false positives but so far there is no proof. We have yet to find a reference that would admit the possibility that lidocaine might cause a false positive. The conflicting answers likely have to do with the name. Just because it ends with “caine” does not mean that the drug was derived from cocaine. The “caine” refers to the numbing effect of the drug, not the source. However, Novocaine is one drug that may show up on a drug screen.
