Subj: Positive result for Cocaine
Date: 8/11/2010
Can the use of Vicodin give a positive result for Cocaine?

AskDocWeb: Vicodin is a combination of acetaminophen and hydrocodone. The hydrocodone in Vicodin can cause a false positive, but not for cocaine. Hydrocodone may cause a false positive for Morphine, Opium, or Heroin. If cocaine was detected it is mostly likely because Cocaine, Benzoyl Ecgonine, Cocaethylene, Ecgonine, or Ecgonine Methy Ester was present in the body.

Subj: Diabetes
Date: 8/11/2010
I have type 1 diabetes and recently came up positive for cocaine during a drug test for probation. I hadn’t used in weeks, would my diabetes be cause for a false positive and could you tell me why so I may explain myself?

AskDocWeb: We don’t know if it is the disease itself or the drugs used to treat the disease but according to the obstetricians and gynecologists at ( diabetes, liver problems, and kidney problems may cause a false positive for cocaine.

Subj: Seroquel?
Date: 8/11/2010
What dose seraquil don’t know how to spell, but what dose it show up as in a drug test?

AskDocWeb: Seroquel is a brand name of the drug Quetiapine (kwe tye’ a peen), an atypical antipsychotic drug. We have not seen it show up in the research on false positives.

Subj: Rockstar energy drink
Date: 8/12/2010
I need to know if Rockstar energy drink will cause a false positive for amphetamines?

AskDocWeb: Several people have asked but so far there are no reports of that happening. Of course if you suspect a false positive then you can clear it up by getting a GC/MS confirmation test.

Subj: Cocaine of opioids?
Date: 8/13/2010
I would like to know if the following medications, can test positive for either cocaine of opioids: Hydrochlorthiazide, nabumetome or Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine).

AskDocWeb: None of those are on the list.

Subj: Symbicort
Date: 8/14/2010
Doe symbicort have cocaine in it?

AskDocWeb: The active ingredients in Symbicort are micronized budesonide and micronized formoterol fumarate dihydrate. The inactive ingredients of Symbicort are hydrofluroalkane (HFA 227), povidone K25 USP, and polyethylene glycol 1000 NF. There is no cocaine in Symbicort.

Subj: My job is on the line
Date: 8/16/2010
I tested positive for fentanyl 1 nanogram/ml and norfentanyl 48nanograms/ml during a urine test. I have never used fentanyl or any other street drugs. I am currently taking: venlafaxine hcl er 75mg daily, zolpidem tartate 5mg daily, alprazolam 0.25 mg twice daily, sertraline hcl 100mg daily and advil liquid gels as needed. Would any of these or in combination cause a fentanyl false positive.? I had sunburn and applied a topical lidocaine product??? Any effect? Please help me, my job is on the line…

AskDocWeb: Fentanyl will definitely show up in a drug test and it will show up as an opiate because it is in that class of drugs. Chemically it is similar to morphine. We have not come across any reference to false positives for Fentanyl but there is something you can do about it. Getting a GC/MS confirmation test may save your job. Even if you have to pay for the test out of your own pocket it is probably worth it.

Subj: Tylenol PM
Date: 8/17/2010
I took a Tylenol PM three days ago and I took a drug test today and my urine is dirty for Benzos…Tylenol PM is gonna get me thrown in jail.

AskDocWeb: Not necessarily, a GC/MS confirmation test will correctly identify the Tylenol. Although expensive it may be worth the cost.

Subj: GC/MS drug screen
Date: 8/18/2010
I had to take a GC/MS drug screen for fentanyl. They say it came back positive and i have never used fentanyl or any other drug of that type. I currently take zoloft 100mg, effexor er 75mg, xanax 0.25mg twice daily, ambien 5mg at night and advil daily for headaches. That test has to be wrong. Do you have any info to support the fact that the test isn’t full proof and/or the meds i do take could have contributed to a false positive. Please help…

AskDocWeb: Sorry Jodi, the Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer test (GC/MS) is the most accurate and reliable test available.

Subj: Scared of side effects
Date: 8/18/2010
I am about to take shot Leuprolide aka Lupron, Lupron Depot, eligard, Viadur for treatment of recurrent Ovarian Cancer and am a little scared in regards to the side effects.

AskDocWeb: Please talk to your doctor about your concerns. They can explain about possible side effects and what to expect during your treatment.

Subj: Novacaine
Date: 8/18/2010
Went to the dentist and got novacaine. The drug test came back positive for cocaine.

Subj: False positive for THC?
Date: 8/18/2010
I just came up positive for THC and am only taking predisone…it said it was listed on this site for a false positive but its not saying anything anywhere. I need to know because I might lose my kids.

AskDocWeb: Predisone is not listed here but maybe you meant prednisone. Since Prednisone is a steroid, it may show up on a drug screen but it has not been reported to show up as a false positive for THC. If you believe the drug test result was a false positive then getting a GC/MS test may be the only way to show that.

Subj: Prozac
Date: 8/18/2010
Will prozac make you fail a urine drug screen?

AskDocWeb: Prozac has been reported to sometimes show up as a false positive for amphetamines on urine drug tests (Reference 31).

Subj: Alcohol
Date: 8/18/2010
I am living in a residential treatment house for MICD and on probation for my 3rd DUI. I was randomly UA’d and it came back positive for alcohol consumption. I haven’t had a drop of alcohol since my accident Dec.5, 2008. I am on several meds and was wondering if any of them could have caused a false/positive. I will just give you a few to mention, Lithium, cymbalta, seroquil, rimron.

AskDocWeb: There is a minute amount of alcohol in Lithium but we doubt that it would be enough to trigger a positive alcohol reading. There are other ways besides drinking to get alcohol into your system. Alcohol can be absorbed through the skin so you have to be careful about what products you use that might contain it. Mouth wash, hand sanitizer, and many cosmetics often contains alcohol.

Subj: Positive for methadone
Date: 8/19/2010
My psychiatrist does random drup tests. He has me on suboxone 8mg 2x daily, nuerontin 600mg 4x daily, and lunesta 3mg 2x as needed at night. Occasionally, I take over the counter meds including Benadryl/dyphenhydramine, aleve/naproxen sodium, and/or ibuprofen. Last week, I tested positive for methadone. I have NEVER touched methadone and never would. I don’t even know how to get it or how it is taken. There is absolutley no way that I have ever been exposed to it. I go for a secondary urine test today. How in the world can I clear my name? If the test comes up positive again today, I will be kicked out of the program. Why did I get this false positive? Can anyone help me?

AskDocWeb: None of what you list has been reported to cause a false positive for methadone on a urine drug test but it could happen. The only way that we know of to show that a urine drug test result is a false positive is the GC/MS confirmation test.

Subj: This paper
Date: 8/19/2010
I need you to email me a copy this paper, shows all the fause postivw for meth.

AskDocWeb: You can print the list by clicking on file (in the top left corner of your browser) and then click on print. The complete list is 9 pages long.

Subj: THC released from fat cells?
Date: 8/20/2010
Hi, I used to be a heavy pot smoker and Haven’t smoked since July 2009. I am heavy set and tested positive 9 weeks after I had quit. I recently started a labor job and I burned a lot of fat off in the last 2 weeks after sitting on my butt for a year. Three days after doing this I tested positive for THC. I am on bi-weekly drug screens and I also take one a month for the courts. I passed all of them in the last year except for this last one. I was looking to see if anyone on here had something similar, and the longest I found was a few people saying 6 months. It has been 13 months since I smoked weed.

Subj: Ranitidine
Date: 8/21/2010
Can ranitidine give a false positive for Cocaine?

AskDocWeb: Ranitidine has been reported to sometimes show up as a false positive for Amphetamines on urine tests but not cocaine.

Subj: Hepatitis?
Date: 8/21/2010
i tested positive for morphine which my level was more than 10000 and i also have hepitias c can that effect why my system isnt cleaning out right cause i have stop using and i didnt do that much of opiates?

AskDocWeb: Hum…if you didn’t do “that much” then there is a possibility that you did more than you thought. Hepatitis has not been reported to cause any problems with urine drug testing.

Subj: Positive for PCP
Date: 8/23/2010
Husband has a work related back injury. Has been seeing pain management Dr. for almost 4 yrs. now. He takes Lortab 10 and soma. He went to get his prescrption refills and they did a UA, dip stick, and they say it showed postive for PCP and would not refill his lortabs till lab work came back. My husband is 52 yrs old and is now having back spasms and stomach cramps. They would not accept another UA from anywhere else and they would not re-test. I thought PCP would only show up in blood and bone marrow? Regardless what would cause a false postive? He didn’t even know what PCP was I had to google it.

AskDocWeb: So far we have found only four drugs that might cause a false positive for PCP on the urine EMIT tests: Diazepam (Reference 29), Diphenhydramine (Reference 24), Effexor Tablets (venlafaxine hydrochloride) (References 27 and 33), and Ketamine (References 16 and 32). If your husband’s lab work shows that something else caused a false positive for PCP, be sure to let us know.
