Report on Fenugreek Side Effects and Usage

Natural health supplements sometimes have unexpected side effects or interactions with medication that can lead to adverse reactions that are sometimes life threatening. The following is a list of cautions that you should be aware of before using Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum). These are referred to as drug/herb interactions.
Warning 1 – All medications: Fenugreek may cause reduced absorption of all medications when used concurrently.
Warning 2 – Oral Antidiabetics: Hypoglycemic reactions are possible when used concurrently with oral antidiabetic medication.
Warning 3 – Anticoagulants: Fenugreek may increase the risk of bleeding or increase the effects of warfarin. Use caution when combining with ginkgo, ibuprofen, aspirin, and other NSAIDs.
Used as a natural health remedy 1: Fenugreek is used internally to increase milk supply in lactating women (galactagogue).
Used as a natural health remedy 2: Fenugreek is used internally to relieve the symptoms of the common cold. Recent non-clinical trials have indicated that fenugreek may have potent antiviral properties.
Used as a natural health remedy 3: Fenugreek is used internally to relieve the symptoms and discomfort of arthritis, and as an appetite stimulant. (See other herbs for inflammation)
Used as a natural health remedy 4: Several human trials have demonstrated that fenugreek seeds improve most metabolic symptoms associated with type-1 and type-2 diabetes in both humans and relevant animal models by reducing serum glucose and improving glucose tolerance.
Used as a natural health remedy 5: Fenugreek has a long history as an aphrodisiac dating back to ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome. The aromatic properties of fenugreek heighten the users sex appeal by sweetening the breath, decreasing perspiration, and giving the body a sweet, maple-like aroma.
Fenugreek Side Effects
The known side effects that may occur with Fenugreek include:
- bloating
- diarrhea
- gas
- indigestion
- repeated applications to skin may cause rash

As with any herb, a serious allergic reaction is possible. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction. These may include a rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.
