Subj: Using Spectral RS
Date: 8/12/2008
I’m using Spectral RS & ReVita shampoo by DS laboratories. Both of course are topical. Would it be OK to also take Advecia orally?

Peggy

AskDocWeb: Yes, that would be okay because there is no conflict between them.

Subj: Thanks!

Thanks so very much for taking your time to create this very useful and informative site. I have learned a lot from your site. Thanks!

Subj: Is it possible
Date: 8/16/2008
So I’ve been reading comments from 2006 about the fact that there is no help on the market for the receding hairline and temporal areas, is it still so? My hairline is not exactly receding, it was receding 3-4 years ago and then stopped and I didn’t experience any further balding, but is it possible to go back to the original hairline, the one I had when I was a teen?

Alex

AskDocWeb: Sorry Alex, the only way that we know of to do that would be a hair transplant.

Subj: Feedback comments and reviews

Hi, I noticed that most of your feedback comments and reviews are several years old. Are you still in the process of reviewing and testing hair loss products? Is the informaiton on the site relatively current and up-to-date? Thanks,

Tim

AskDocWeb: Here are the links for the latest posts on Procerin, Propecia, Advecia, Provillus, Avacor, Thymuskin, and the latest one that was just added, Profollica.

Subj: Combine these?
Date: 9/29/2008
I am using Procerin tablets and serum with Nisim shampoo and gel. Is it fine to combine these 2 products or should I stick to one only.

Vishal

AskDocWeb: Our focus here is on side effects so we would prefer feedback from those using only one product at a time. This is to isolate the source of any possible problems but yes, it’s okay to combine them.

Subj: Hair loss due to stress and dieting
Date: 9/29/2008
I have recently lost lots of hair. It was partly due to work, personal stress combined with dieting. I how ever have returned to a normal healthy life style. I had problems of hair fall n slightly less hair compared to others. Will my condition improve with normal life style. I am also thinking of using Mintop. Please advice, as I really wanna know if it’s helpful in long run. How long can and should one use it. And if I do, should I use 5% or 2%. I am 22 years healthy man. Thanks,

Joseph

AskDocWeb: The hair loss due to stress and dieting is usually temporary so you may not need to treat it at all. Give it a couple of months and see.

Subj: La Look hair gel
Date: 10/13/2008
I am a 25 yr old male and have experienced thinning on the top/crown area of my head over the past 6 months. I have used cheap styling products (hate to admit it.) for at least 8 years. I switched to La Look hair gel which I believed was a better trustworthy product but I believe that gel made the problem worse…I checked its contents and it has Denatured Alcohol!!! in it. My hairline is still very healthy and I am very concerned about my thinning hair. I have just ordered Nisim and will be starting it soon and will include an update here in the future…do you recommend that I should take Procerin as well?? Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Karl

AskDocWeb: Thanks for letting us know about La Look hair gel. Ideally you would not introduce a second hair loss product until you have used the first one for 4 to 6 months. That will give you a good idea of what the first product is doing for you. Also if any side effects show up there will be no doubt about which product caused the problem. Other men have reported getting good results when they use Procerin together with Nisim.

Subj: Major hair shedding
Date: 10/13/2008
I have recently started having major hair shedding (37 yo female), which I think is b/c I’ve been taking a diuretic for over a year – I’ve been on both Diazyde and Hydrocholorothiazide. Could that be the reason? I’m trying to find a natural alternative to the medication (prescribed for meniere’s), but am curious if the hair will grow back naturally once I’m off the medication? Any suggestions to what I can do in the meantime? Do you know of a viable natural alternative to the diuretic? I have really fine hair to begin with and don’t want to lose any more of it. Thanks!

Emma

AskDocWeb: Diuretics have been used to treat fluid overload for over 50 years but the drugs do drain electrolytes, including potassium and magnesium. A diet that emphasizes fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products might act as a natural diuretic. The DASH diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) may help reduce blood pressure without the use of medication, but you should consult with your doctor for the details.

Subj: Seborrheic dermatitis
Date: 10/26/2008
I have seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp and I was curious if yeast may cause this seborrheic dermatitis??? My hair is getting thinning and it slowly falling off. I also have red bald patches on my middle scalp. I went to see my doctor and she gave me ketoconazole and tell me to use selsun blue. I used it and it’s being a week. It seems like it worked after the showering but start itching after 8 hours. What is the best way to cure seborrheic dermatitis? Your advice is appreciated!

PD

AskDocWeb: Seborrheic dermatitis is a disease that causes flaking of the skin. It usually affects the scalp. It is commonly called dandruff but in babies it’s known as cradle cap. Seborrheic dermatitis is not confined to the scalp. It can also appear on other parts of the body such as the face and chest, and the creases of the arms, legs and groin. It usually causes the skin to look a little greasy and scaly or flaky.

Since the exact cause of seborrheic dermatitis isn’t known, the cure is still under development. And the cause may be different in infants and adults. It may be related to hormones because the disorder often appears in infancy and disappears before puberty. A common skin fungus called malassezia, which is normally present in small numbers, may also cause it. Seborrheic dermatitis has also been linked to neurological disorders such as epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease but the reason for this relationship isn’t known.

The treatment of seborrheic dermatitis depends on its location on the body and the person’s age. Adults with Seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp (dandruff) are typically treated with a shampoo that contains salicylic acid, the prescription medicine selenium sulfide (Selsun Blue, Exsel) or zinc pyrithione (DHS Zinc, Head & Shoulders). When using a dandruff shampoo, rub the shampoo into your hair and scalp thoroughly and let it stay on for at least 5 minutes before rinsing. This will give it time to work.
If the shampoo alone doesn’t help, your doctor might want you to use a prescription steroid lotion (hydrocortisone cream) once or twice daily, in addition to the shampoo.

Subj: DHEA Hirsuitism/Hairloss Institute
Date: 11/2/2008
Could please send me the web address of the DHEA Hirsuitism/Hairloss Institute. I am very interested in information on DHEA as I have suffered a great deal of hairloss due to DHEA, and have not been able to find this website. Thanks very much.

Karen

AskDocWeb: Sorry Karen, we are not aware of such an institute.

Subj: Procerin with laser comb?
Date: 11/12/2008
I am 23, male, Indian noticing thinning of hair from last 9 months. I was tested with high testosterone but never checked DHT. But I think I am losing hair beacuse of DHT. I am using Hairmax Laser comb from last 2 weeks. Can I use Procerin now and also planning to use Revivogen with these products. I am not taking any other medication. Please advice which one could be best one.

Sunny

AskDocWeb: There has been enough positive feedback on Procerin to convince us that it is worth trying and you can do that while using the laser comb.

Subj: Laser comb?
Date: 11/14/2008
Hi; was just wondering if you had any information on men’s hair loss-re; laser/laser comb. From what I have read on the net there seems to be some success with it. It is really difficult to tell though because it is almost impossible to verify the results.

Dennis

AskDocWeb: We agree, it is difficult to get verifiable data. The laser does seem to work for some people but does it work for a high enough percentage to justify that claim? We are not convinced but keep an open mind and keep watching the research. Certain frequencies of light are exhibiting some amazing healing powers.

Subj: Recommendation for baldness?
Date: 11/26/2008
Sir, I am 21 years old. My father is accutely bald (not having hair in 3/5 portion of head). I have started to have frontal baldness and over some one year I have noticed my hair becoming as thin as cotton. I heard that you wont recommend any medicine. I am not having any allergy other than to sulpha. Pls recommend me a good lotion or anything to apply on my baldness affected frontal recesion area? plsssssssss

Tom

AskDocWeb: We would love to be able to tell you the name of a product that works for baldness but that product is not yet on the market. It’s not that we won’t recommend ANY medicine but rather that we will ONLY recommend what works. Minoxidil is a short-term possibility but according to
Drug Facts from the FDA, even with constant regular usage it has not been shown to be effective beyond 48 weeks. By the way, there is a nice bonus check waiting for the first person to let us know when that perfect product for hair loss becomes available. Read more feedback.
