Subj: Smoking?
Date: 11/24/2010
Does smoking increase hair losses?
Rohit
AskDocWeb: Yes, smoking contracts the capillaries that supply blood to the hair follicles, which reduces the nutrients required for healthy hair growth.
Subj: Losing my hair at 19
Date: 11/24/2010
I am a 19 year old boy and i’ve noticed that i am loosing my hair like whenever i comb or pull(slightly) my hair, lots of hair falls. Now, I have noticed that my hair is becoming thin and thin daily and i am scared of loosing my hair so which medicine should i take can how much should i take that medicine like 1 years or 2 etc so can u help me please…reply me soon please its urgent.
Yunex
AskDocWeb: Losing a small amount of hair is normal, about 100 hairs daily. However, if your hair is becoming thin then there could be a medical cause for this, especially since you are only 19 years old. If you haven’t had a physical to check for medical problems then you may want to do that. The first step in choosing the right medication is determining the cause. There are many diseases that can cause hair loss and until you know what is responsible, you can’t choose the best medicine. For example, if the hair loss is caused by a fungal infection, that would require a different medication than it would if the cause was from ringworm or a thyroid condition.

I am having severe hair loss in my right temple. I am taking vitamins for my hair loss as I lost my hair severly over 4 years ago when my daughter ran away and I was seriously stressed. It grew back and now the right temple is gone. I had a mirena put in in may 2010 could this be the cause? I also am experiencing menopausal symptoms which my doctor say is caused by low estrogen which I take care of with maca powder
Melissa
AskDocWeb: The hair loss could be caused by Mirena. According to their website between 5% and 10% of users experience unusual hair growth or hair loss. A word of caution about Maca: For some people, when Maca root powder is first used it may cause hormonal symptoms or make them worse, leading to premenstrual tension (PMT), depression, anxiety, headaches, and bad acne breakouts. It’s an energy booster that may also result in insomnia.
Subj: COVER-IT or MINTOP
Date: 12/9/2010
Sir, I’m having hairfall since 2 years I’m getting hair on forehead I mean that im getting V shape! I’m really afraid & getting so much depress in our city I consulted skin doctor they advised me to use COVER-IT or MINTOP! really they’ll grow my hairs back?
Ram
AskDocWeb: We haven’t seen much about the Cover-It solution so can’t comment on that. Mintop is effective because it has minoxidil in it but it doesn’t work for all types of hair loss.

Subj: Hair loss in 16 year old girl
Date: 12/15/2010
hello, my daughter is 16 years old girl and she use HAIRGROW GEL(fourrts). But still there is lot of hair loss and she is suffering with irregular periods. so she take DUOLUTON-L tablets for 8 cycles. I need a solution to stop hair loss. And i want to regain hair growth. Now she use TRICHUP hair oil. WHAT can i do to stop hair loss and to regain hair growth? please suggest me…
Vidhya
AskDocWeb: Because she is only 16 years old there may be a medical cause for her hair loss. If so then choosing a hair loss solution would be a waste of time until the medical problem is treated.

Subj: ProRestora
Date: 1/5/2011
I was wondering if you guys have ever heard or reviewed a product called ProRestora. I can’t find too much about it and you guys are the most comprehensive resource on the web that I have found. So I figured I would ask. Much appreciated and keep up the good work.
Todd
AskDocWeb: The reason you couldn’t find much about it is that they are brand new. They just registered their website December 2, 2010 so they have no track record yet from which to judge. However, they only registered their domain name for one year so if things don’t work out it didn’t cost them much.
Subj: Nourkrin then Viviscal maximum strength
Date: 1/11/2011
I’ve had thin hair for a couple of years now. I used Nourkrin man for a while and i thought it helped a little but the results were marginal. I switched to viviscal maximum strength about 5 months ago and the results have been a bit better. It took about 3-4 months to see anything at all so you may need to be patient. I use the maximum strength version as it works out a lot cheaper than the viviscal man. Not sure how long i can use this for though and what will happen when i stop.

Subj: Topical steroid and 5% Minoxidil?
Date: 1/16/2011
I have lichen planopilaris on my scalp and is also experiencing overall hair thining. My doctor has prescribed both a topical steriod and 5% Minoxidil. I’m concerned with using both of these together, after reading the comments on your website. Although I am not applying the Minoxidil directly on the planopilaris, is there a risk in using both together?
Elizabeth
AskDocWeb: Minoxidil is often used with a topical steroid. The possible side effects include excessive hair growth on other parts of the body and acne.
There are three forms of Lichen Planopilaris: (1) classic LPP, (2) frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA), and (3) Graham-Little syndrome. LLP is characterized by a wasting away of hair follicles in patches with thickening of the skin and perifollicular crythema (redness of the skin around each hair follicle) which appears mostly in the crown area. FFA typically appears as band-like scaring and recession of the front hairline. LLP is a non-scarring alopecia of pubic hair and/or eye-brows, as well as keratosis pilaris on the drunk and extremities. Treatment options often focus on arresting the condition because regrowth of hair is unlikely.
Subj: Regenix
Date: 1/17/2011
Should I be taking anything else to keep my hair from starting to fall out again? I use Regenix and it works. First it got rid of my dandruff. Then slowly my hair started growing in thicker. Looks a lot better now and it doesn’t fall out any more. But I’m scared that maybe I should be switching on and off to something else so that my hair doesn’t become immune to it or something. A little paranoid I guess, but so happy to have better hair again.
Lee
AskDocWeb: Have you hear the expression, “If it isn’t broke then don’t fix it”? As long as it is working to your satisfaction, and it sounds like it is, why use something else? Of course it won’t hurt anything to learn about other hair loss product just in case the Regenix stops working.
Subj: Can I order this?
Date: 1/25/2011
Im in Canada can I order this from this web site or No!!! Need to know before I waste my time and money.
Sue
AskDocWeb: Sorry Sue, but you need to identify which product or service you are talking about.

Subj: Is there a product that does this?
Date: 2/1/2011
I have hair lost and thinning just on my edges from hairstyles that put too much tension on my hair such as tight braids. I’m trying to find out if there’s a product I can use for regrowth that I don’t have to continue to use to keep the hair that it help me regrow.
Stephanie
AskDocWeb: Sorry Stephanie, all the products currently on the market have to be used continuously to maintain the benefits.

Subj: Questions about product for hair loss
Date: 2/14/2011
Is there any sexual side effects? How long does it take to work? If you discontinue product, does your hair fall out rapidly? Will it regrow hair or just stop from falling out? Does it work on receding hair line? Thank you.
Matt
AskDocWeb: Those are all good questions about a product for hair loss. Of the following products only Propecia has been documented to cause sexual side effects in a small percentage of patients.
Subj: I can see my scalp
Date: 2/14/2011
Hi, hope you can advice. Am 38yrs, noticed hair thinning on top since last year. Its not really falling off, dont see it on my hands in shower or on pillow. Hair still feels coarse though but I can see my scalp through it. What should I start with? Note: I am on levothrozine (due to under active thyroid). Appreciate your advice
Bade
AskDocWeb: Both over active and under active thyroid problems are known to cause hair loss. However, if you are hypothyroid and taking levothyroxine (Synthroid), note that according to the Synthroid patient literature, excessive hair loss is a side effect of that drug for some people.
