I noticed Regenix wasn’t on your list of treatments, however I have had success with Regenix and feel others should know about it.

Bosley shampoo
Date: 2/18/2011
I used Bosley shampoo for about 6 weeks and in that time I was waking up gasping for air, and having panic attacks and severe reactions to foods I previously had not had. I have not used it in about a month now but still feel constantly dizzy. If someone has rare side effects like I have, can I be permanately harmed from this? When will I feel normal again?

April

AskDocWeb: We don’t know. There are no reports of damage from using the Bosley shampoo. However, your symptoms sound serious enough that your doctor should evaluate them.

18 year old with thin hair
Date: 2/23/2011
My son is 18 yrs old. His dad is bald and mom has thin hair. It is highly likely that he will be on the same trend. His hair is not thick, no hair loss at the moment. Can he start rogaine or procerin etc.? Pls comment. Regards.

Sue

AskDocWeb: Since he is genetically predisposed to early hair loss, starting treatment early is likely to prolong keeping his hair as long as possible. Just maintaining a regular regimen of hair healthy practices can to a long way to help minimize the effects of preventable hair loss. For example, rubbing the hair dry is taboo. To get the water out of your hair, squeeze it and then pat the remaining water out with a dry towel. This may take a little longer to dry way but it avoids the hair loss from traction trauma caused by combing out tangles. There a few more tips for dealing with hair loss here.

Hair fall
Date: 3/6/2011
hi plz help me, am 22 years old girl. i have hair problem my hair fall very fast m going bald plz tell me somethng for regrowth of new hairs plzzzzzzzzzzz help me m using epivite tablets also. Thx,

Umama

AskDocWeb: If you are losing hair fast, that may indicate a medical problem that requires the help of a healthcare professional. There are many diseases that can cause hair loss and until you know what is responsible, you can’t choose the best medicine. For example, if the hair loss is caused by a fungal infection, that would require a different medication than it would if the cause was from ringworm or a thyroid condition, so consult with your doctor. If you are on any medication you might take a look at the drugs that cause hair loss. There are also some simple tips to prevent hair loss.

Belgravia center
Date: 4/17/2011
this week i went to visit the belgravia center after 1 year of constant hair loss. my father is bald and mother has very thin hair (which she got after her late 30’s) i have been loosing a lot of hair on the top of my head and feared that it would be a genetic condition. belgravia confirmed me worst fears and advised me to go on their treatment for at least one year. i would get trichologically formulated shampoo, check-ups, home use prescriptions minoxidil + boosters and a laser brush. i would like to know if this is my best option and how good is this treatment. i am only 23 and as i’m getting married in three months i am wondering if i should wait these 3 months or start this right away or is there a better option out there i should also consider.

Amanda

AskDocWeb: You get a trichologically formulated shampoo? We are skeptical about trichologists in general. In the USA anyone can call themselves a trichologist without any training. Is the one you consulted a medical doctor or a dermatologist? At least a dermatologist could rule out medical causes for your hair loss.

Propecia and Bosley shampoo
Date: 6/2/2011
One more question: Is propecia and Bosley shampoo related to one another? I see those two mentioned together alot on the web, but are the ingredients of the shampoo similar to Propecia? Thank you for your reply!

April

AskDocWeb: No, the active ingredient is Propecia is finasteride, which is a medication that can only be purchased with a prescription. Many people are familiar with Bosley the hair transplant business but shampoo? Well surprise, they do have a shampoo although it appears to be sold as part of a kit. Their website lists the ingredients in the Bosley shampoo only in a very general way. The Nourishing Shampoo contains:

No prescription is required for the Bosley shampoo. It does not contain finasteride.

hairfall and dandruff
Date: 6/14/2011
Hi, I am 27 year old(female) got married 4 months back. Before marriage I had hairfall and dandruff but not too much but after marriage from 3 months I noticed hair thinning and more hair fall. Front head looks like bald. I contacted nearest dermatologist this month and he suggested me to use (DR reddy’s )MINTOP 2% twice daily(2ml per day) with nizrane shampoo for dandruff and also to intake rich protien and iron food like egg and milk. I am using this product from 2 weeks but I am unable to find any results my hairs are falling more. please suggest me on this please.

Sangeetha

AskDocWeb: Two weeks may be enough to see results with the dandruff problem but the hair fall is likely going to take three or four months to see results. The active ingredient in Mintop is minoxidil and according to the manufacturer, you may see an increase in hair loss during the first few weeks of use. Of course it can be disturbing to have an increase in hair loss from a product that is supposed to stop it but this is a known side effect. The increase in hair fall should not last more than a few weeks and then the growth phase should replace what you lost. Since it is going to take months to see results you will have to give it a chance to work.

Mintop forte
Date: 6/20/2011
I am 24, female. I am losing a lot of hair in recent times especially in the front and temples. Please advice if I can use Mintop forte and frequency. DO I have to have a hair bath after using it?

Rithika

AskDocWeb: The active ingredient in Mintop Forte is minoxidil. Unfortunately the effect of minoxidil varies from person to person and no one can say in advance whether you will benefit or not. The instructions say to wait 4 hours after applying before washing the hair so that the medication can be absorbed into the scalp.

No significant results with spectral DNC
Date: 6/20/2011
I am 18 years old. I am suffering from hair loss. I have been using spectral DNC for 1 year 1/day, and didnt see any significant results. Then I decided to use it twice /day as recommended. Nothing changed, hair loss continued and never stopped. Now I’m entering my 2 month of the twice per day routine. I decided to add nisim shampoo to my regime, and this is the fourth day, and I’m still seeing Lots and LOTS of hair fall all the time +100 (in shower and everywhere). I am freaking out..any help PLEASE.

Abdul

AskDocWeb: Let’s take a moment to separate the results of those two products. The first one, Spectral DNC, you have used for over a year with no significant results. Now we are wondering, how long do you plan on using a product that is not working?

The second product, Nisim, you say you have used for only 4 days. There is no product on the market that would stop hair loss or produce results in only 4 days, maybe 3 or 4 months but not 4 days. If you give it a chance to work it just might do that.

Alarming hair loss
Date: 7/25/2011
My daughter is 22 years. Her hair is thinning alarmingly. She is 5’10” tall having a weight of 85 Kg. She does not take any medicine. What is the remedy? What sort of diet should be taken, that promote growth of hair? There is no hereditary baldness. Can any vitamin tablets promote growth of hair?

Anuradha

AskDocWeb: The remedy depends on the cause of her hair loss. Sudden severe hair loss is often a sign of an underlying health problem such as one of the following:

As you can see, most of the above causes require medical attention so it is best to check it check out by her doctor. Vitamins will most likely work only if the hair loss is caused by a vitamin deficiency.

Eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables and low in starch may help to slow down the process of hair loss. Fruits and vegetables contain bioflavonoids, many of which are antioxidants that may provide protection for the hair follicles and encourage hair growth.

Is a scalp biopsy necessary?
Date: 7/25/2011
Please could you advise me – I have been diagnosed with frontal fribrosing alopecia and the derm wants me to have a biopsy, is this really necessary? He is doing research on the topic and I feel it might be unnecessary trauma after reading other peoples experiences and mixed or no definite outcome. Thank you for your help.

Moira

AskDocWeb: Until you have a biopsy done you can’t be conclusively diagnosed or certain of what kind of alopecia you have. Usually only one biopsy is needed for pathologic confirmation if it is done in an area of active inflammation. With that said, if you feel uncomfortable with your dermatologist you can find another one.

AskDocWeb: That would depend on the cause of your hair loss. Have you consulted with a dermatologist or had a physical recently to rule out medical problems?
