Subj: Long story
Date: 2/15/2005
I am a male 24 years old and have been witnessing a rapid hair loss in the past year or so…in almost 1 year I have lost a lot of hair and am getting bald from the front and top with just 40% of the hairs left.
I do not have a heredity of hair loss and my father is 55 and he still has a full head of hairs. I have been suffering from a lot of diseases and have therefore taken a lot of medicines and I have absolutely no clue as to if these are side effects of taking medicines or what…
1) I have been suffering from a hiatal hernia for the past 5 years and have taken protium, prevacid and nexium for that and have I am on nexium now.
2) I have had a lot of skin problems since my youth and have taken many medicines for it such as itching on the body which lasted for 3 years and pimples for another 3 years.
3) besides all of this…I don’t know how to say that I used to masturbate a lot due which I badly damaged my erection which is still not cured and the penis is not erect and the sperm has also become very watery and when I used to masturbate before I used to feel like a pain in my head during masturbation which continued till I masturbated. I have no clue if my sex has been affected due to masturbation or is a side effect of all the medicines I have taken. I have never seen a doctor for this problem as I am not married right now and do not have the guts to tell this to a doctor. It’s only easier for me to tell this to you because I am emailing it. I don’t know if all of these causes can be inter related or not and what I should be doing to solve these issues.
Ali
AskDocWeb: I’m fairly sure that some of your hair loss is caused by stress from worrying about this and your medications, not masturbating. That doesn’t have anything to do with hair loss.
Some things you can do to improve your situation:
If you are overweight, lose the extra weight.
Instead of eating three large meals, eat four or five small meals.
Placing blocks under the head of your bed to raise it four to six inches should improve the quality of your sleep. If you are well rested, you are better able to copy with things in general, which lowers your stress level and increases your overall health.
If you can afford it, seek help from a specialist, a gastroenterologist.
Subj: Nutrifolica
Date: 2/17/2005
Do you have any info on Nutrifolica? I am shopping for a supplemental shampoo / conditioner combination to use with my Procerin. I have been using Nioxin for a while, but I ran out and have not seen much in the way of results with Nioxin. Do you have any info on Nioxin? I like the idea of Nutrifolica being all natural. Thanks,
Kirk
AskDocWeb: Thanks for letting us know about Nioxin. We haven’t looked at Nutrifolica but would like to hear how well or if this works for you.
Subj: Lasercomb
Date: 2/21/2005
Can you comment on the HairMax Lasercomb?
AskDocWeb: There have been minor successes but, in our opinion it is not worth the money.
Subj: Hair Genesis
Date: 2/21/2005
Do you have any research or feedback on Hair Genesis? Is it truly drug free? I am 36 years old and have been losing my hair since my 20’s and have had 2 hair transplants but they are very expensive and between surgeries would like to thicken my hair. I do not want to try Avacor or other drugged up products. Thanks!
AskDocWeb: There is no feedback on Hair Genesis yet, good or bad. In 2004, we took a quick look at them but got stopped at their guarantee. With so much double-talk and special conditions, it is doubtful that anyone ever gets a refund. Reading that guarantee convinced us that they don’t believe in their own product.
Subj: Advecia and Procerin together?
Date: 2/23/2005
Advecia and Procerin. These two products seem to be very similar based on the descriptions, but while both mention the combined use with other treatments, neither mentions use with each other. Can these two be taken together for increased benefit or are they similar enough that doubling up would be pointless?
Robert
AskDocWeb: There is a lot in Advecia that is not in Procerin, but there is no saw palmetto in Advecia. Using them together would seem to be a good idea.
Subj: Smoking and hair loss
Date: 3/3/2005
Does smoking cause hairloss?
Tyler
AskDocWeb: Although it may make the problem worse, no, there is no evidence to suggest that smoking causes hair loss.
Subj: Hair loss caused by meds
Date: 3/23/2005
I hope you can help me. I am a 46 yr. old female rapidly loosing my hair due to meds. I am quite distressed over this. Is there something natural I can do to regrow my hair? Thank you,
Shelley
AskDocWeb: There are several natural products on the market to help women with hair loss but we doubt that any them will be able to counteract the hair loss caused by the meds.
Subj: Hair Genesis
Date: 4/4/2005
Have you heard anything about Hair Genesis. There seem to be some good results on the web and thay say it’s FDA approved
Ramon
AskDocWeb You may have been misled. Their advertising meets FDA guidelines. That is far from being FDA approved. There is no feedback on Hair Genesis yet, good or bad. In 2004, we took a quick look at them but got stopped at their guarantee. With so much double-talk and special conditions, it is doubtful that anyone ever gets a refund. Reading that guarantee convinced us that they don’t believe in their own product.
Answer update 5/25/07: HairGenesis is not recommended.
Subj: Hairloss on the lower legs
Date: 5/6/2005
I’m 26yrs old and am 6ft 4in tall and only weight 165lbs. I’ve always suspected that I’ve got a thyroid problem but never felt compelled to do anything until I noticed my hair start thinning badly in this last year. I’ve read on some hairloss forums that diffuse thinning like I have can be caused by thyroid issues. Also, there was some mention of small circular hairloss on the lower legs, which I noticed when I was 20 and has remained about sock level on my left leg for 6 years. Could you give me any advice or give me some info where I can do some more research. Thanks alot,
Brad
AskDocWeb: If you suspect a thyroid problem, get it checked. If your hair loss is thyroid related then you could do something about it. A lot of men have hairloss on their lower legs.
Subj: Propecia and female hair loss
Date: 5/13/2005
I am female, 55 years old with hair loss for 3 years. I have tried and been dissapointed in every “treatment” and product that I have been advised to use, or tried on my own. I was told 2 years ago by an Endocrinologist I could very well go totally bald! Thyroid RX or Estrogen had not helped. Finally after discounting what my Dermatologist tried to tell me months ago, I returned and agreed to try Propecia. It has been 3 months and at first I lost MORE hair, however I have MORE new strong hairs than I have had in the whole 3 year period combined. I had to make myself stay on the Propecia when the loss increased and am now glad I did. My long hair is a bit hard to style with new hair standing on end, but what a nice problem!! Just thought I would encourage those ladies that fall in the “safe” range to try it. I have had no negative side effects, other than the cost.

Subj: Provillus
Date: 5/17/2005
Have you reviewed Provillus or do you know of any clinical studies on this product? Thanx.
Rob
AskDocWeb: No, no clinical studies yet. We haven’t taken a close look at Provillus but if you try it and would like to share your experience or just information, we will add it to the list.
Subj: Natural products for hair loss
Date: 5/29/2005
I am 33 years old male. I have hair loss problem. Can you recommend me if there are any natural products? I take one tablespoon of fish oil every day. Can it be a reason to lose my hairs? Thank you.
Nick
AskDocWeb: That much Fish oil wouldn’t cause your hair loss. Procerin and Advecia are natural products.
Subj: Hair growth with laser
Date: 6/3/2005
Do you know anything about these places that offer a low intense laser to re-grow hair. Some hair transplant offices are using this technology.
Ric
AskDocWeb: We haven’t heard just how effective they are but we do see that there is also a laser hair comb on the market. It would be nice to hear from those who have used either one.
Subj: Hair loss after dieting
Date: 6/7/2005
I’m a 22 years old Persian girl who is suffering hair loss for nearly 5 months after being on a diet. Specially in the front my hair is slowly become bald, but the back of my hair is ok. What shall I do to stop it? Thanks,
Camellia
AskDocWeb: Most of the time there is little that you can do for hair loss around the hairline. In your case you should know that some diets deprive your body of the vitamins and minerals needed for the growth of healthy hair. We suggest you try Advecia and let us know what happens.
Subj: HairGenesis
Date: 6/19/2005
Hello. I am looking into ordering a product to stop my hair loss-both in the front and at the vertex. I have read your reviews for hair loss products, but I am interested in HairGenesis. Could you comment on its effectiveness? Thanks
Tom
AskDocWeb: Sorry, we never got beyond their guarantee. It was so filled with double talk and conditions that it convinced us that they have no faith in their product. Read their guarantee carefully.
Subj: Early hair loss

I’m 20, how can I stop or even slow down a receding hairline?
James
AskDocWeb: Sorry James, there just isn’t anything on the market that we can recommend for your hairline.
