If you have hair loss, please help others by adding your feedback. What would you tell your best friend about hair loss products? Please remember that we do not give medical advice. That is for your local health care provider, who is familiar with your medical history.
Please, I wanna find out about the medical side effects of using ROGAINE to treat baldness. Does (I) need close monitoring of blood pressure while using it?
AskDocWeb: Rogaine is a brand name of Minoxidil. You can read our
Report here. Basically you have to watch for salt and water retention, pericarditis, (inflammation around the heart), nausea, vomiting, and rash. Your body weight should be monitored but close monitoring of blood pressure is not mentioned.
Subj: Good hair loss products?
I am trying to find a good product that has no side effects and I came up with a few products (HairGenesis, Advecia, Procerin) but I couldn’t find any reviews from customers on HairGenesis and Advecia. I want someone to point me in the right direction on what should I use. I’m 29 years old (male) and my hair is receding in the front and the crown area. I started using Vive shampoo for men (with regenium x whatever that is) and it actually made my hair fuller and thicker but I know that will not stop my hair from falling out. Can you help me?.
AskDocWeb: All the products for hair loss that we looked at have side effects, at least for some people. The only hair loss products that are totally free of side effects were the ones that did nothing to stop or slow hair loss.
Answer update: HairGenesis is not recommended.
Answer update: There is now a product review page for Advecia.
Hi, do you have any information regarding Provillus.
AskDocWeb: Not much yet, we need to hear more from Provillus users.
Subj: Hair loss questions
I’m a 25 year old male and been losing my hair since I was 19. I am so self-conscious about my hairloss that I’ve been shaving my head completely bald since I was 20. Luckily, I can pull it off well. I just ordered procerin and started taking it yesterday. I’m seeing a doctor tomorrow about a propecia prescription. Next week, I’m ordering Thymuskin shampoo and treatment. My question is if I were to continue to shave my head bald would it effect my hair “regrowth”? Would I be wasting my money using these products on/with a shaved head or will the hair still grow regardless? I know there is a shedding phase and these products generally take a few months to work anyway, so is it okay to continue to shave it until I see improvement?
AskDocWeb: If you are shaving your head then the shampoo would seem to be a waste of money. And if you continue to shave your head, how will you know if they work at all? The Propecia will take about 6 months to begin working well. You might consider letting your hair grow at that time to see the results.
Subj: Hair loss products
I am interested in hairgenesis products, or if you have any suggestions on which product out there may be the best to stop hair loss and possibly reverse it.
AskDocWeb: The hair loss product with the highest success rate for both stopping hair loss and reversing it is Propecia. But before you go out and buy Propecia, we suggest you read the feedback here.
Answer update 5/25/07: HairGenesis is not recommended.
Subj: Scalp Med
Is Vitadil dangerous to use? It has 5% Minoxidil Topical Solution. The ingredients is used in a product called Scalp Med! Please tell me anything at all you know about it, good or bad.
AskDocWeb: It seems that some companies who are selling hair loss treatments have recently been saying that they are FDA approved or that their product is FDA approved. Avacor has done that a few times and the FDA came down on them for doing it.
Scalp med seems to be dancing close to the edge of what is legal in making their claims. Their advertising may be approved by the FDA as legal, but that is not the same thing as a product approved for fighting hair loss. The FDA has not approved any new treatments for hair loss.
Their Vitadil looks to be no more dangerous than Minoxidil. Scalp Med seems to be an expensive source of Minoxidil 5%, the same stuff you can buy at your local drugstore for one-tenth the price. Their Vitadil-5A and Vitadil-2A seem to be made from minoxidil and Theroxidil seems to be a brand name for 5% Minoxidil. Look at the small print under their before and after photos, it says, “results are not typical.”
Subj: Hair products?
Dear AskDocWeb, My boyfriend has been checking out your site and reading the questions page. He is 43 with receding and slightly thinning hair. He eats plenty of soy (supposedly anti DHT), fish oils, vegetables, brewer’s yeast – do you think this actually helps?
AskDocWeb: We found no evidence to support fish oil as a hair loss solution. On the other hand, the soy may be slowing his hair loss. When soy enters the intestines, it creates something called equol, which blocks the DHT.
Subj: Hair loss treatments
Do you have any thoughts on the following treatments for hair loss: Nizoral 2% shampoo, Dercos shampoo, and Minsaw-A topical lotion. I came across information on these products through the internet. Is there significant data to support some of the claims? Also, the products seem readily available elsewhere but not in the US without a prescription. Would you agree?
AskDocWeb: Sorry, there’s no data to support their claims. Products often do not show up in the USA because of the stronger consumer protection laws.
Hi, I used procerin for 4 months with no success. There was no hair regrowth and definitely no slowing down of hair loss. I’m on Provillus capsules and nisim shampoo and stimulating extract. Have been using them for two months and still expecting results.

Subj: Hair Formula 37
Any information available about Hair Formula 37? Vitamins and a large amount of amino acid pills.
AskDocWeb: It appears the people who sell Hair Formula 37 don’t believe in their own product. Their guarantee has a 45-day limit. That’s not enough time for an evaluation, save your money.
Have you heard of a new hairloss product called scalpmed? And if so what do you think?
AskDocWeb: It looks a lot like a scam. They want you to buy without knowing if you are allergic to one of the ingredients. They don’t say what’s in it and that’s bad news.
Subj: Hair loss in woman
Hello: My name is Francis (Female) Age: 28 Years, from Dominican Republic, actually I’m using Advecia, but I’m very worry because in some web sites states that Advecia is a product just for Men, why is that?
Also I’m very concern about the possible side effects that I may experiment by using this products. Thank you for your quick response.
AskDocWeb: We have not had a single complaint about any negative side effects from Advecia. The manufacturer says that it is for both men and women. Please use the feedback form on one of our Advecia pages if anything shows up.
An alternative product that we are getting ready to take a look at, Provillus is for women’s hair loss.
Subj: Hair Genesis for women?
Do you have any feedback on Hair Genesis for women? Does it work?
AskDocWeb: No feedback yet, maybe you could share your experience.
Subj: Healthy hair?
Please keep in mind that your hair is DEAD. It is no longer living, and cannot be ‘healthy.’ Your hair can be strong, thick, and shiny, but never healthy.
AskDocWeb: This is just a saying, “a healthy head of hair” usually refers to the amount hair on a person’s head. That amount of hair is only possible because the hair follicles are very much alive and need to be healthy in order to grow hair.
