I am trying to find out if I can take lysine with Flecainide.. I have heard it is good for Blockage in my neck…thank you.
AskDocWeb: We didn’t find any interactions listed between lysine with Flecainide. As always, if you are taking a prescription drug, talk to your doctor before using any supplements. What kind of “Blockage” do you have in your neck?
Flecainide acetate a class Ic anti-arrhythmic drug used to prevent and treat irregular heartbeats. Flecainide works by regulating the flow of sodium in the heart, causing prolongation of the cardiac action potential. Flecainide was originally sold under the trade name Tambocor (manufactured by 3M pharmaceuticals). Flecainide is available in generic version under the trade names Flécaine, Almarytm, Apocard, and Ecrinal.
L-Lysine and drug test
I am wanting to try L-Lysine, but need to find out if it would show a positive for anything on a drug screen.
AskDocWeb: L-Lysine does not show up on a drug screen for drugs of abuse. For a list of possible causes for a false positive, see this list.
False positive for alcohol?
Milk thistle extract 1000 mg 4xs a day. It works great but gives me a false positive for alcohol. Why?
AskDocWeb: We have heard of people taking 4,000 mg of milk thistle a day to counter the effect of alcohol on their liver but there are no reports of it causing a false positive for alcohol.
Please note that taking higher amounts of Milk Thistle will in time decrease manganese and iron stores, which can be an advantage for those with hemochromatosis (excess iron storage disease). It may also be a problem for those low on iron.
Too much guarana
Guarana was in the vitamin that I have taken since 2008, since September 2011 I have not felt quite right, dizziness, irregular heartbeat, now hives for 2 months, blood in the urine. Finally found out it was from the guarana. Too much in my system. Be careful when using this ~ the side effects that I am experiencing are horrible.
AskDocWeb: Thanks for letting us know Deb. This shows why it is important to learn about the side effects of the supplements you take.
Kava cool complex
I just drank some kava cool complex! Do I need to call poison control or the hospital emergency room?
AskDocWeb: Although allergic reactions are rare (less than 0.5%), it is possible. If you suspect an allergic reaction then call poison control or your local emergency room immediately. Please read the Warnings for Kava.
Lipo 6 Black Ultra Concentrate
I am currently taking Lipo 6 Black Ultra Concentrate. Although I have not nor ever had a reason to be drug screened I’ve personally looked up the ingredients and there is nothing that looks like it would affect a test. But that’s my opinion. Other than that this pill is one that I would highly recommend! Thank Everyone for the information, this site was a big help!

Any info on saponin? Thanks,
AskDocWeb: Saponins are glycosides with a distinctive foaming characteristic. They are found in many plants, but get their name from the soapwort plant (Saponaria). Plants containing saponin include:
When consumed in the diet, saponins may have antifungal and antibacterial properties. Saponin-rich herbs may also contribute to lowering blood cholesterol and inhibit cancer cell growth. Some saponins affect the heart and have been used for over 100 years to treat heart conditions. For example Digitalis is a saponin derived from the common garden plant, Foxglove. Digitalis is thought to strengthen heart muscle contractions, which could be beneficial for those with heart disease. However, high doses of Digitalis-type saponins can be toxic and have been used as fish poison as well as arrow and spear poisons by African and South American natives.
It appears that there are very limited FDA approved roles for saponins in human therapy. Therapeutic benefit is a result of careful administration of an appropriate dose. Great care needs to be exercised in evaluating or acting on specific claims of therapeutic benefit from ingesting saponin-type products.
Vomited juiced vegetables
I regularly juice vegetables & this morning juiced a few carrots, a small fresh beetroot and a small cucumber. After drinking the juice, I noticed a slight bitterness & thought it must have been the cucumber. A few minutes later I began to feel very ill and within 10 minutes had vomited up all the juice. Could this be explained by toxins in the bitter cucumber?
AskDocWeb: There are a couple of possible explanations. The pulp and outer skin of bitter cucumber (also called Bitter apple) contains a highly poisonous constituent called colocynthin. That red covering around the seeds (red arils) is reported to cause vomiting, diarrhea and death in children. When bitter melon is combined with sulfonylureas, hypoglycemia can occur.
The other possibility is the raw grated beetroot. That has been linked to several outbreaks of gastrointestinal illness, which included nausea and vomiting. Fortunately the distress caused by either is short term.
