Date: 7/13/2014

The farmers were giving DICLOFENAC to their cattle & the Vultures were eating the carcases & suffering renal failure. All over Europe & America Vets are giving this drug to livestock & its in the meat we eat. Just like the ASPIRIN the GP prescribes, it causes Uric Acid & Creatinine levels to increase! Natural diuretic
Date: 12/10/2014
I starting taking 1 Ceylon Cinnamon capsule a day (1/2 dose) since I was recently diagnose “pre-diabetes. I immediately noticed my visits to the bathroom increased and researched that cinnamon is a natural diuretic. After 4 weeks, my calves were constantly tight, then I had a couple of severe “Charlie Horse” cramps at night. I remembered when in high school sports, I took salt pills to stop leg cramps to offset my heavy sweating because I was dehydrating. I stopped the cinnamon, and after 4 days, my calves feel back to normal.

White poppy seed
Date: 2/18/2015
How can we use white poppy seed for good sleep? Is it right method for good sleep? Is it have any side effect? If it not dangerous then what amount of poppy seeds can be taken for good sleep and in which form? Pls suggest me..

Chaithra

AskDocWeb: If you may have to take a drug test to prove that you are not using illegal drugs, we caution you that white poppy seed can show up on that test as opiates (false positives). While poppy seeds are legal to possess in most countries, they can cause failed drug tests even when eaten in small amounts. Frequent use of poppy tea may result in physical addiction and withdrawal. Symptoms of opiate withdrawal, such as nausea, diarrhea, muscle pain and fever, may occur if you stop using white poppy seeds suddenly.

Soy flavonoids
Date: 4/5/2015
Any valid and scientific explanation about why soy flavonoids might decrease the effect of birth control pills?

Shantelly

AskDocWeb: Overall, the estrogenic effect of soy isoflavones in women appear to be fairly minimal. According to Teede HJ, Dalais FS, McGrath BP, Dietary soy containing phytoestrogens does not have detectable estrogenic effects on hepatic protein synthesis in postmenopausal women. (See American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 2004; 79: 396-401.)

However, the effect is not zero. According to most but not all studies, use of soy has enough of an estrogen-like effect to slightly alter the menstrual cycle and change levels of sex hormones in young women. Thus, some of the risks of estrogen could, in theory, apply to isoflavones as well. (See Maskarinec G, Franke AA, Williams AE, et al. The effects of an isoflavone intervention on the reproductive cycle of premenopausal women. Presented at: European Conference on Nutrition & Cancer; June 21-24, 2001; Lyon, France.)

We found only one small study (36 women) that addressed the concern that soy isoflavones might interfere with the action of oral contraceptives. (See Effects of soy intake on sex hormone metabolism in premenopausal women.)

An additional concern was brought to light by a fairly large (365 participants) and long-term (5 years) study that found uterine stimulation in 3.37% of women on isoflavones and 0% of those on placebo. This could indicate a slightly increased risk of uterine cancer with high-dose isoflavone use. (See Endometrial effects of long-term treatment with phytoestrogens)

Long term cinnamon and honey?
Date: 4/13/2015
Hi! I take cinnamon and honey every day on empty stomach for quite some time. Is it safe or it has some negative effects? I do not have diabetes but it runs in the family I take it as weight loss remedy. Please tell me can i take it on long term. Thank you.

Shazia

AskDocWeb: There are no known reactions between honey and cinnamon, either long term or short term that might negatively effect human beings over 12 months old. Pediatricians caution against giving honey to a baby until it is at least 12 months old. Honey may contain spores of bacteria that can cause botulism. This doesn’t mean that all honey is contaminated — these bacteria are harmless to adults and children over 1 year.

Cinnamon toxicity?
Date: 6/7/2015
Hey AskDocWeb, I may be experiencing cinnamon toxicity when I take one capsule (500 mg) COMBINED with 37.5 milligrams of Adipex-P (which is Phentermine, a stimulant to decrease appetite, to lose weight). What do you think about taking Phentermine and Cinnamon supplements at the same time ? I have NO KNOWN liver problems.

Stuart

AskDocWeb: Our database does not list an interaction between Phentermine and cinnamon however, this does not necessarily mean no interactions exist. We suggest you talk to your doctor about the result you get with cinnamon while on Adipex-P.
